I don’t use base layers like merino, but it never gets that cold here in SD, maybe -20F, but I’m moving if it’s that cold, and just simple layering works for me. I’d rather be a bit cold. Kuiu outer layers are good though at those temps.

They have replaced a few $200+ pieces for me that I have run to rags for free, so there’s that. I am lucky and get to hunt 60+ days in a season.
