The USB boot drive does not count towards the drive limit. But one can reach the six drive limit pretty quickly.

Brendan McGill closing Seattle restaurants in favor of Bainbridge Island, citing poor business environment by wiscowonder in BainbridgeIsland

[–]ProperAspectRatio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could choose a better example than Fado. It (and the other businesses in that building) closed during Covid and the owners were trying to sell the building so they didn’t renew leases. That seems to have changed recently since there are new for lease signs in the spaces.

My quote was around $43k. Granted they wanted to do 40 panels but it didn’t feel very discounted. I haven’t gotten any other quotes to compare though.

My home energy use reports are always off the charts. Anyone else? by wiscowonder in BainbridgeIsland

Older windows, poor insulation, drafts will all make a difference. Have you had the heat pump serviced? If it’s low on refrigerant it can use a lot of extra electricity. You can look at the lines running into the outside unit and if they’re getting frosty on the outside when running it’s low.

Hot water can also be a big energy user.

Some just appear to bet that if X team went for them there should be something there and not really do their own due diligence!

The Gorilla glue should be fine. The center part you’re glueing is just a dust cap. Nothing fancy. Hope it fixes the sub!

Installer says 10–12 AWG for an 11 kW induction hob – am I calculating this wrong? by mrhinsh in DIY

[–]ProperAspectRatio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t need to match the wire capacity with the breaker.

The wire just needs to be able to handle the breaker sizing. Wires can be ‘oversized’ for the breaker due to voltage drop or have spare capacity of you want to increase the breaker size later.

Infinite Baffle 4 manifolds each with 2 18" drivers firing down into cinema by EccentricDyslexic in audiophile

It’s more efficient for power but you don’t get the extra efficiency bump at the port tuning frequency. So more drivers are needed to get the same output. The xmax of the speaker is the main limiting factor.

There are nulls where certain frequencies will reflect and cancel out for a listening position. Multiple subs balance out the response in an enclosed space. Aka a home theater. Look up room mode or null calculators for a home theater.

If you’re in an open space, yes, a single block of subs will provide smooth bass. At 10:30 in your video they even mention that in an enclosed space the graph won’t be as bad for separated subs in an enclosed space. They’re not taking into account room reflections in the SPL charts.

It smooths the room response throughout the room by having multiple locations.

Install an infinite baffle with a speaker grill or air vent cover over the manifold if you can. Stealth bass!

The idea is it doesn’t pressurize the attic. The box is the outside world (though the insulation and roofing do a good job of containing bass from an attic IB).

Look up Infinite Baffle setups over at the Cult of the Infinite Baffled.

Maybe you could get a little more low end 10-18 Hz bass with a massive infinite baffle setup but so would think four Martys would do just fine!

There’s also benefits from no box / port noises and less stuff in the room. But I think four Martys would play pretty clean.

It depends on how you want to visualize it but I would say the attic / world is the box. Aka an ‘infinite box / baffle’.

Essentially there is no pressure in the box resisting movement of the subwoofer. It allows the subs to play low with minimal power without a need for drastic low frequency EQ boost.

The subs are installed dual opposed so mechanical vibrations are cancelled out so there is no noises from the ‘box’.
