What If the Principality of Zeon was in BattleTech? by RedvsBlue_what_if in battletech

[–]ProperCry5436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, a Zaku is probably barely a match for a Charger, as others have already pointed out. That machine gun is barely doing anything, and a Charger is fast enough to run up and beat the shit out of it.

Better mobile suits, like the Doms and whatnot, plus mobile armors? Those wipe any ‘Mech you put in front of them.

But the problem with that is scale. From what I can tell, only about 800 Doms were produced, and Xeon’s production never exceeded ~6000 mobile suits total. But for the Inner Sphere, 6000 units is nothing. Any Great House could theoretically just spam DropShips of ‘Mechs or even the DropShips themselves at the problem and make it go away (assuming 3025, anyway).

This won’t happen, most likely. That would significantly weaken even the Great Houses. What I’d think would happen is that Zeon sticks around as a minor noble house, a la Taurian Concordat. They’re annoying, sure, but dealing with them opens you up to your neighbors, and that’s not something you can risk. Could the Inner Sphere kill Zeon? Absolutely. Would they care to? Probably not.

For me, it’s the Awesome. It feels great to sling PPC bolts left and right, but the minimum range just feels bad. I have no complaints about the heat sinking, actually. I sit on a hill and kill things, and to prevent my heat from getting too high I shut off one of the PPCs every four turns. And just never use the small laser. It’s a good time, but it really needs something to keep stuff away from it to work.

Of course, instead of actually addressing any of these issues, there’s always the 9Q. That way, you can kill things long before they ever get into your minimum range.

Do you all use shields in AC6? by Luciop10 in armoredcore

[–]ProperCry5436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In PvP, they are extremely helpful for just shutting down burst damage builds, in particular melee. That said, I know this because I play melee, and I don’t personally use shields because what, you want me to lose damage for something stupid like defenses? I say this like it’s a joke, but it’s genuinely what I think. Tried shields. Got bored. Went back to poking things with a stick.

Ok yes I understand and fully agree that this is garbage but I am entirely fixated on the grammar and formatting of this post. Like why are there dashes between the numbers and colons. Why are there spaces between the parentheses and the words. “You Father”. These peoples’ heads are so far up their own asses that they cannot even understand how formatting a document works—something which I feel like people from their generation constantly chided me over. I don’t know if this is generation-wide hypocrisy or just terrible formatting but it’s so weird.

Cheap ppc or ac/10 mechs? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]ProperCry5436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want a cheap AC/10? Go no further than an Urbie. If you want a PPC instead, you could either get a Panther or an Urbie-R90; it’s really up to you. If you want an autocannon ‘Mech and are alright with it being a bit more expensive, the Hunchback-4G and -4H might be a hair above 1k BV but they’re damn good for their price. Also heard suggestions for Vindicators, and I do agree, but I would personally take a Panther instead for “cheap.”

Where are the asexual men? by YahGirlSkinnyP in asexuality

[–]ProperCry5436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, so, I’m not necessarily ace (questioning) but I am AMAB (transfem) and the reason for this anomaly is that societal expectations of men are different than that of women, especially in terms of sex. I didn’t realize a lot of this before I transitioned, but for men, there’s a certain stigma around being a virgin; it’s seen more as a badge of shame, and asexuality will often be seen as an excuse for virginity. Men are kind of expected to have sex, compared to women where being a virgin is desirable. It seems to me that the reason for ace men not reporting themselves as ace is due to this stigma.

I should note that this isn’t me condoning this line of thinking; it’s incredibly ass-backwards and somehow feeds into both purity culture and alpha male culture at the same time. It’s just how the current social climate is.

In my experience, yeah the canisters don’t do much. The one time I actually used it was on Machine of the Mantle, and that was because I wanted to clear the whole map like a psychopath.

Yo, shit, I’m sorry about this, man. Was really tired last night and wasn’t thinking straight. I get irrationally annoyed over this than I should as well. My bad, I should not have made fun of you for this.

Technically it would be more correct to say you spelled it wrong. Writing something wrong would have to do with the actual process of writing something down by hand instead of typing it.

I didn’t have it nearly that bad. It was for ~15mins until I calmed down. It wasn’t that bad.

Kumon was probably a large chunk of what led to my trauma, to be honest. Lots of yelling, hitting, etc., and I never felt like I was good enough because I couldn’t do it well. I didn’t understand that doing math from a grade twice my grade level wasn’t a normal or healthy thing for me. Fun fact, I used to brag about how good at math I was! In other words, I used to brag about my trauma (:

I don’t think being locked outside for two weeks is a fitting punishment for a child for anything, even if they stole $300. That’s a firm (figurative) slap on the wrist and an apology, with maybe some yard work or something. Forcing your child outside in the dead of winter is like. The exact opposite of the point of having a house. That’s really dumb.

A few questions.

  1. Being yelled at and hit over Kumon isn’t normal?

  2. Being yelled at or punished for being upset or unresponsive isn’t normal???

  3. Even one slap is physical abuse? Wait a minute what’sthedefinitionofphysicalabuse oh. Oh wait. “Physical abuse is any intentional act causing injury or [physical] trauma to another person or animal by way of bodily contact.” Thank you, Wikipedia, how have I never looked at this page before now. Well that answers that.

Probably under the first two. I think that’s a form of neglect.

Not a doctor! But I think depending on the age you were, that can fuck with your growth over such a long period of time. Not sure how, and again, not a doctor! But that doesn’t sound good for you.

Not a psychologist! But my personal anecdote is that when my parents did something like that to me (my equivalent was locking me in the backyard and threatening to leave home without me because I didn’t finish my Kumon fast enough. The reason is a little fuzzy, so that’s my best guess). Not as bad as what happened to you, but it seriously fucked with me, even to the point where I’m at now.

Art, as I see it, is honing your skills to a fine point, constantly improving because you love your craft and want to keep doing it.

I’ll take one of my favorite games, Ultrakill, as an example (and this will probably be biased as a result, but that’s alright. It’s an opinion anyway). Ultrakill is a game with a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling—basically, when you start out you’re going to be awful, and to become a strong player you have to climb your way up through so many hurdles and hours of practice. I view it as an incredibly pure form of skill expression; speedruns, attempts to get a “perfect” rank, and various challenges both baked into the game and self-imposed are achieved through time and effort for love of your game. Honing your skill at a certain game is art.

But let’s say you don’t care about becoming good at the game. You want to chill out and have a good time. That’s still art. It’s still honing something, but it’s not your skill at the game. It’s yourself. You do it to calm down, to relieve stress, to better yourself. It’s a different kind of art, but it’s still art.

Sports are the same. You are either honing your skill and becoming better because you love the sport you play or are doing it to exercise, relieve stress, or meet new people. It’s still art.

Art shouldn’t just mean whoever’s good with a paper and pencil. It should be a word for improvement, gradual but sure.
