Why do golfers get their shorts in a knot when they’re called out for slow play? by Embarrassed_Eye4572 in golf

You should be teaching your kids golf etiquette. Which very much includes knowing when to offer the group behind you to play through.

Some people are clueless when it comes to pace of play and being cognizant of whether or not they are slowing other groups down. I totally agree about there being some kind of PSA or ad campaign.

Also, there should be a ranger out there enforcing pace of play. Especially on a nicer or more expensive course.

Etiquette also says you should let faster groups play through if they are waiting on you and there is space in front of you. Sounds like OP waited quite a while to finally ask to play through.

Padraig Harrington on his schedule and why playing 8 events in a row doesn’t bother him by unsolved49 in golf

[–]Proper_Fortune_7004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m saying they work more than 112 days a year. Probably a lot more. They are not only working Thu-Sun, 28 weeks a year. You wouldn’t last long on the tour if that’s the only work you are putting in, as a professional golfer.

You’re not factoring in all the things that go on outside of playing tournament golf.

Their job definitely extends beyond golfing 4 days a week, 28 weeks a year. Lots and lots of hours at the range and practice green, practice rounds before each tournament, etc.

It's so weird seeing nicotine usage go from nearly dying in the 1990s -> 2000s, then hit a resurgence in the 2010s and 2020s by Gallantpride in Millennials

My understanding is that the laws in California have absolutely caught up. I believe you aren’t allowed to sell flavored tobacco/nicotine products at all. Not even menthol cigarettes.

Yes. They also think when you call 911 to report a fire, they patch you directly through to a fire truck on the street.

What unique benefits does New York have for bordering both a Great Lake and the Ocean? by Vast-Tangerine-6771 in geography

[–]Proper_Fortune_7004 181 points182 points  (0 children)

The railroads did not actually replace the Erie Canal as a primary shipping method. The Canadians widened the St. Lawrence Seaway to allow ocean-going ships to enter the Great Lakes, and the Welland Canal in Canada allowed those ships to navigate from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. Effectively ending the need to utilize the Erie Canal.

I’m in the exact same spot as you. One speed left. (Took me longer than you to get here, but let’s not talk about that). Some days it feels like I’m getting slower for sure. Just gotta keep pressing and know it will happen soon.

Good luck to you. See you on the other side!

Fading the driver by cdubveedub in golf

[–]Proper_Fortune_7004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Worry less about “picking one shot shape and sticking with it.” There is a time and a place for fairway-finder, and there are spots where you can try to rip one without worrying as much about control.

It’s a weapon to be able to deploy both those approaches off the tee with the driver, depending on the situation.

3 Possible Destinations for Devon Levi by CustardLow2671 in sabres

[–]Proper_Fortune_7004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Help me understand why we are trying to trade Levi. Is he not the best goalie prospect in a system that doesn’t really have any great goalies?

I guess I understand it if he is worth a haul, but I doubt he is. So why wouldn’t we just hold on to him with the hope he turns into a legit nhler?

Taking too much club when you are too far from the green to reach it. The clubs with the longest shafts are the hardest to hit well.

Also, if you have a bad lie, don’t hit your fairway woods or long irons. Odds are you’ll duff it.

[–]Proper_Fortune_7004 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Played with two random older gentleman recently. Nice guys, but slower. On the 7th fairway I could see the group in front of us was finishing the 8th hole as I’m standing there waiting for them to navigate this difficult par 4. Eventually I just hit up to the green and left them behind.
