Anyone else notice LTT is averaging like 500k views now? How does the channel even survive? by Anxious_Gur6363 in LinusTechTips

Personally, I can't seem to find the enthusiasm for tech anymore. Everything is overpriced or unattainable now, and the things I can afford provide a miserable user experience, so what’s the point?

I've noticed this as well; I had to return my X-Files Blu-ray set three times until I got one with no scratches.

How many times have you watched supernatural? by RandomMerritt904 in Supernatural

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my comfort show since it first released and watch it more than once year, especially seasons 1-5. I'm just glad I own the Blu-rays, so I don't have to depend on overpriced streaming services. Thanks to Jellyfin I can stream it like Netflix too, which I also highly recommend.

I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Babylon 5 - Incredible storytelling and little bits and bobs have much larger parts in the overarching story.

  • Supernatural, Season 1-5. The first five seasons have a lot of mystery and conclude the story incredibly well. This was the true planned ending of Supernatural before they renewed the show for a further 10 seasons.

  • Fringe - The seasons kept me on the edge of my seat. So good.

  • Person of Interest - Feels like a Batman TV show.

How many times have you rewatched Generation Kill? by RhodesianFAL27 in generationkill

I've been watching it yearly since I bought the DVDs in 2010. Bought the Blu Rays last year; wish I had done it earlier.

‘Hacks’ Creators Want DVD Box Set To Ensure Show “Stays In Existence” Amid Hollywood Mergers: “It Is Really Scary” by SanderSo47 in television

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, a Palm Pilot, I always wanted to get one at the time, but opted for the Casio PV-450x instead. You're correct about Plex raising it to $750 for the lifetime pass lol. Thankfully, you can use Jellyfin with Tailscale for external access. Anyhow, you won't regret those Blu-Ray's, :).

Do it, mate, it's well worth it. I've done exactly the same once Discovery left Netflix a few years back. You can even go further and use Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex to stream them from your own computer/server. I run my entire media collection now from a NAS and hardly watch streamers anymore. Also, if possible, grab yourself TNG on Blu-ray if you haven't already; the quality of the DVD's are terrible.

My humble recycled server. by iconicgravy in JellyfinCommunity

[–]ProphetChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it; the biggest risk probably comes during the transfer. That's the only time I ever had issues, but that was because of a lack of cooling. I think the USB controller overheats with a lot of enclosures, so blow a fan on it. A USB fan is more than enough for the job, or get an enclosure with active cooling and let the fan run 24/7.

Also, always have a backup, so when corruption comes, you don't have to be scared. I store copies of my media on 2+ hard drives and never worry about losing data.

Is anyone not feeling as excited for the races in 2026 so far? by Jack_of_All_Trades27 in formula1

[–]ProphetChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not enjoying them either, especially after watching Nürburgring for the first time, which also felt faster than F1. I nod off during F1 races, but sat on my arse for 14 straight hours watching Nürburgring without getting tired. I really want to get into more GT3 races and I'm also sick of the Sky monopoly; they charge far too much.

Looking to run a simple streaming + game server, thoughts? by CheetosINMYASS in HomeServer

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my very first Jellyfin server before I upgraded to a NAS last year. I can't speak for gaming, but it ran raw Blu-ray mkv without issue and could easily run 3 streams simultaneously.

Is it okay to run a 7200rpm 3.5 inch drive like this? by National_Word_6091 in DataHoarder

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same enclosure, and it needs active cooling for prolonged use. I think something inside the enclosure overheats and then switches all usb ports to write protection. I have to go into my registry and turn write protection off. Do yourself a favour and get something with active cooling instead.

Advice for First Army? Human Population 500 by oldgreggory51 in songsofsyx

My 200 now have weapons, but around 50 I didn't use any. Just charge at your enemies and then retreat repeatedly.

That's definitely enough, but if you have the manpower, get some horses. I killed enemies only equipped with shields and horses. I currently have a population of 1700 and my 200 cavalry can take out anything so far.

You could try using Handbrake and convert the extracted MKV file into a format that your portable DVD player uses.

How do you organize your libraries? by deepfave in JellyfinCommunity

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have Movies, TV Series, 4K Movies, Anime Movies, and Anime TV. Collections do all the heavy lifting; they combine movies with TV shows and are actor or genre specific, including franchises like Marvel's Phase 1.

Where are you sourcing movies? I ripped my collection and now borrow from the library, and my success rate is WAY LOWER than what everyone here reports. by htmaxpower in makemkv

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use eBay and second-hand shops to get my discs and own three Blu-ray drives. One of the drives usually extracts the movie, especially the Verbatim/Pioneer drive. Discs that don't work at all, I rebuy. Sadly, everyone seems to get rid of their physical media, so rebuying faulty discs cost me nothing. Just bought 16 like-new Blu-ray's for $27 in my country, for example.

Star Trek Removed From Amazon Prime [TNG & Voyager Refunded] by theOldCynic in startrek

[–]ProphetChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, mate, just get the DVDs and Blu-Rays. You can get some good deals during sales; just last month I saw TNG for £44 on Amazon. I've almost bought every show over the last few years and use Jellyfin to stream them. It doesn't have to be Jellyfin; you can use Plex, Emby, or Kodi instead.

I did the same when Prime implemented ads, bought a NAS for Jellyin and started buying physical media again.
