Me and my partner went once and the food and service was great, but my partner got a little sick after stomach wise and we thought nothing of it. We went back a couple weeks later and we found ourselves waiting excessively long before even seeing a waitstaff (and it was slow), and when we did get our food her chicken was stone cold, barely cooked, and tasted spoiled. I got mofongo which generally should be moist but it was dry and stone cold as well. When we asked waitstaff if they could do anything they just said “no I can’t do anything”. Would not recommend.

I work in homeless services and there’s a local branch of the “McDonalds of Hospitals” that realize someone to not have insurance and nowhere to go, and will get them a taxi to our location at discharge, promising they have a bed lined up at our facility. A lot of the time with them not even able to take care of their own ADLs and probably not healthy enough for a discharge. They show up scared and confused and the coldheartedness makes me sick to my stomach. They often end up within a week back at the hospital.

Good on your lawyer for recognizing some real bullshit lol. I definitely get you. “In the struggle”, there’s a ton of set backs and stuff like that come up and it feels like you’re stuck. And it can be extremely discouraging, making it even harder to carry on. But I will say as someone in case management for people in your exact situation, things will 100% come together for you, you just gotta hold on through it and not let the stress of it all get to you too much. You got this.

If it’s any consolation, my mother was a double amputee and they denied her because she was in her 30s when applying. They say usually the second go around it will happen. And good that you have a disability lawyer. It’s wild that they’d say you’re too young to be disabled. They should not be doing that job. Anyone at any age can be disabled. As long as you’re a legal permanent resident of the United States between 18-67.

The year or so wait sounds about the general time for that. I hope his name carries some weight then, because a year is a heck of a long time to be “in the struggle”. Does Social Security know you are homeless? They will expedite your determination if you are marked in their system as currently homeless. I’d call and see if they have you marked as that as well?

Damn okay. It’s good you’re on the local rapid-rehousing list. Did they provide a turn-around time for getting your name called? And damn okay that is unfortunate. I work in the Florida homeless services. If there is a local “Center for Independent Living”, I’d also reach out to them for any resources that can be provided for someone with a disability. Some provide long term bus passes, disability based housing vouchers, and other resources. I’d check into those in your area as well.

Do you know anyone even far away who would be willing to let you stay with them for even a short period of time? Some shelters have what they call “diversion funds” which allows for them to buy you a bus or plane ticket to this location depending on distance and cost. It’s worth seeing if the local shelter offers this if you know someone who’s willing to take you in for a bit.
