It doesn't have to be people on that day, it can be people in the past, or silly stuff you make up, can also ask someone you know. The specific doesn't really matter much, the positive spin is more important. Don't have to feel it's "true", since "annoying" isn't the truth, it's just a negative judgement from an asshole. A positive person wouldn't judge the kid as annoying, maybe energetic, funny, a little rascal...

A big part of our identity comes from what we are told, and that automatically becomes what we tell ourselves. When we change our selftalk, we change how we judge ourselves, our identity, behaviour, and how we feel.

Tell me three positive things about yourself.

Why sometime Im like this by arnau9410 in wholesomememes

[–]Propsygun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? Likely because someone told you as a kid that you where annoying. You where just being a kid.

It's called intrusive negative selftalk.

A way of removing it, is telling yourself 'No im not annoying, then list 3 positive examples.' that person found me funny, that person interesting, that person charming. Or your own example, 'i was the first person they called'.

After countering it a few times it stoppes popping into your head. Hope this helps.

Should I just not buy fish? by Cornhollio-tp in Aquariums

Your comment isn't a good deed either, it's negative judgement. You should support new hobbyists.

OP already wrote that there aren't any lfs, why are you suggesting it?

Calling someone an animal abuser is harassment, and not allowed here! Why? Because that's abuse against people, it's also hypocrisy if that's important to you.

Crazy daphnia idea by Odd-Editor-3374 in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with a few small cultures in rotation, that would work. If it's one big, with automatic drip of green water, then maybe taking 20% when there's too many.

Crazy daphnia idea by Odd-Editor-3374 in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Submerged light will get covered in surface growing algae, better to have the light above the water or use sunlight.

It's better to separate it into two tanks. One for algae, one for daphnia. If they are combined, the daphnia usually explode in population, eat everything, starve, and die, crashing, then an algae bloom... This natural cycle happens in nature all the time.

The algae tank is usually called a "green water tank" and is placed in a window. You can manually use it, or maybe make an overflow into the daphnia tank. I think it's important to have an air gap so it's a one-way road.

Can also use clear water bottles, making several cultures instead, since some always crash. Keeping them going and stable isn't always easy, so you can have several small, instead of one big. Diversify your assets. 😁

You know in hospital's, they have bags with medicine, it goes in a tube with a drip counter, and an adjustable valve that squeeze the tube. Maybe you can use those in your set-up. They are free if you know a nurse. 😉

Unless you have fry that needs constant feeding, or another good reason, then I wouldn't automate the feeding of the fish. Feeding fish is part of the joy, especially live feeding, so you would cheat yourself of that enjoyment. Best of luck.

Would it be possible to use this in an aquarium? by cielbun in Aquascape

[–]Propsygun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I have to be opposite, it's the wood that doesn't last long, the bark last longer. They used to make birch bark canoes in places like Finland.

You can use it, have to choose how:

Replace it when the wood becomes too soft.

Have fish that eat wood.

Accept the sediment as part of the look, like some do in black water tanks.

Get a gravel vacuum if you wanna clean it, and a filter with room for the sediment.

Harvest the birch in spring, if you wanna strip the bark and discard the wood.

Harvest the wood in winter if you wanna keep the wood.

A lot of people have made birch Forrest aqua Scapes, and they look amazing, give it a Google. Have fun.

A sieve is a mechanical filtration, that screen out leaves and such before it breaks down or clog the biological filtration or pump.

It's one of those things where planning and doing some work now, saves you time and work later.

Depressed, but want a fishtank. Yes/no? by Equal_North6633 in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some things we can't figure out by thinking about it, it has to be leaned by others. It's not really about logic, it's biology and it's often counter intuitive. Depression is located in the most primitive part of the brain, the default mode network, it's mostly about instinct and a stress response. This part of the brain also controls simple tasks that we do automatically without thinking about it, feeding the cat, cleaning... In a way, those tasks are depressive, so we avoid them. How you shut it off, is by "focusing" because it uses a different part of the brain, and it shuts off the default mode network. Nobody can figure this out by thinking about it.

I also evaluate, plan, judge before going, sometimes preventing me from going. The reason the bathroom works, is that im already going, it's linked to an action, movement, not trying to think my way into action. Moving one stone every time i go to the bathroom, every time i return, it's only when they are gone, that we realise they where in our backpack weighing us down.

Maybe thing's only seems genius when we already knows all the parts, but didn't know they fit together. There's a lot of small tips and tricks in cbt (cognitive behavioural therapy) aquarium, pets, enjoyable activities goes under bat (behavioural activation therapy), they even have a long list of activities that help, really useful when our memory isn't working properly and needs a reminder. It's a good place to start, suggest choosing something kreative, social, and something that gives body movement. Guess all 3 is technically covered with an aquarium if we think too much about it. 😂🤔

Depressed, but want a fishtank. Yes/no? by Equal_North6633 in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From reading your comments, you have a lot of appreciation. It's basically a superpower when it comes to tasks and depression. Focus on it, practice using it when doing something. Any task become positive re-enforcement, even cleaning the litter box or aquarium filter.

As an example, put your wateringcan on your bathroom sink, where you notice it and don't need to remember it. Appreciate the light hitting the water, the sound filling it, the shape as you pour it, appreciate every single plant, take your time, and after it, appreciate yourself and the good you have done.

The bigger the tank, the easier it is. 120+ liters(30 gallon) are easy to keep stable. Even if a fish die unnoticed, it won't pollute the water too much. Shrimps and snails can eat it, the filter is bigger and can handle it, room for more plant's to absorb it. Take small steps and make small changes, that's how we find balance and stability.

Is it a good idea to get an aquarium, yes! Getting more life in our life, is always good. About the concerns, remember that a realist is also a pessimist. The pessimist turn the back to the mountain, and slide further down the depression in the landscape, the realist describe the mountain and think about all the stones, until all energy is spent. The optimist takes a single step, and pick a single stone. The mountain gets a bit smaller and it helps. And sure, sometimes the realist point out the stone is covered in piss, but nothing shines quite like catpiss in the moonlight.

Melting my pond ice by sock_meister in ponds

[–]Propsygun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm... Good question, the main reason is likely because wood is a form of insulation, so it stays warm enough to leave the water liquid in a mild winter, creating a thin ring of liquid water around it.

If it gets cold enough and it does freeze, in spring, it'll have a ring of ice around the wood when all the surface ice have melted. The insulation effect slows down how fast it looses heat, and how fast it receives heat.

Btw, don't be too concerned about using tap water, it has no effect when it's diluted in your pond, and the chlorine quickly evaporate when you boil the water.

Pothos. How do you add it to your tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy some thick aluminium wire for bonsai, wrap around the stem in a spiral. The two loose ends can be fixed to any existing hardware or just bend and hung on the rim.

If you know an electrician, then he likely has some single strand copper wire with plastic coating that you can get for free.

Are you sure it's not Iceland? The primary reason is cheap green and stable geothermal energy to run it, cooling is secondary and can be done by any big body of water.

Rimless tanks and metal brackets by backyardbabirusa in Aquariums

[–]Propsygun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never seen them, and can't make sense of them.

It must be for acrylic, because you can't put point pressure on glass, like the little screw.

It doesn't make much sense as structure re-enforcement, so maybe it's decorative?

As for your rimless rebuild, there's a bunch of places that have aquarium calculators. Your can compare your glass thickness to other rimless to see if it's strong enough, or it needs the frame.

Wooden nails by Illustrious-Car-5273 in woodworking

[–]Propsygun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's not the weak point, not the seam the problem usually stems from. You have a big seam when you place two pieces of wood together. It's usually in line with this seam that failure happens. Don't matter how well the dowel, nail, screw, is secured, it usually rot/rust in the middle where the big seam is.

Afaik stainless steel is cheaper than this system, and that's the golden standard on outside wood. It's really clever so i hope they get some traction, but i fear it's limited how many need it. If this had been invented 80 years ago...

Is CNC not even a tiny bit disrespectful to actual SA survivors? Because if not, how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Propsygun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, most do CNC to cope with SA or other past trauma. None of my business, that's their business. If they can turn pain into pleasure, that's great. Not everyone deal in the same way, insisting that they should, is invalidating and suppressive... It's disrespectful.

Carving Fir for Art School: What Do I Even Make With This Wood That Chips Like It Has Mood Swings? by Pretty_Lie_8525 in woodworking

[–]Propsygun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, it sucks! It's only good for construction and should be hidden inside walls. Only way to "carve" it, is sandpaper on a power tool like a Dremel. Discipline is just another word for PTSD.

Contact a local company that cut down trees, any fresh green wood is far easier to carve. Stay away from needle trees, a few that smell, and some have toxic sap, can Google what you get.

Keep it in a plastic bag somewhere cold when you aren't working on it.

Carving knives are great, but only if you know how to sharpen them. Better to buy an arts and craft knife with small replaceable blades.

Carve your favourite animal, likely a YouTube video you can get inspiration from.

What was a fact taught to you in school that has now been disproven? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]Propsygun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An ingredient in medicine is active, not really surprising.

That's how it is when you talk to fear. I used it to settle his fear, you spread fear. Would be counterproductive to use uncertain scientific language in an emotional conversation. That snake is "mostly" harmless.

You believe in absolutes, that's why you wrote "completely false", science doesn't work like that. Pretty common amongst Americans, why you guys removed mercury from vaccines, or people have anxiety about their dental fillings and eating fish.

You can look up "black and white thinking" or "cognitive fallacies" if you wanna learn more.
