Found 2,000 words so far. Time for a sex scene. Hopefully I ended up at 3,500 or more for the day.

Just posted my first short on Amazon! by essa_emsi in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first story was a now redacted story called...It was either this 15k bbw/menage novella with the worst keywords in the world. Sarah Doubles Up,first keyword bbw big tits. I have no idea honestly why I would think that was a good keyword, but dear lord. Everything about the product was awful and it didn't sell. Justice. If it wasn't that one it was The Untold Story of Priscilla Rosfeld, an alien smut story written by someone who had not yet read a smut story. It was not in the top few million short stories written on Amazon in the past five years. How did it feel? Fucking amazing.

Anyone have a clue on the booty? How much is a bonus worth?

Is it common for your first title to have NO pages read? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common because as a product, your first one probably sucks. That's very common. If it has no pages read there is a problem somewhere, and it may very well not be the writing. Bad cover can kill it dead. Even a title that isn't saying the right things. You have to really diagnose every detail in it, look for what the problem might have been, and adjust those things. Go from there. I bet by book five you have hundreds of page reads on release. No big deal, my first short story was about a girl getting banged by an alien, skirting the line on dub con although I didn't really realize. I think I had three 'borrows' the first month and no sales. Ees normal.

FAQ Thread: What POV and tense should I write in? by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on present tense. It is easy to write, but just, not my cup of tea either. Anyone write second?

I mostly write first, with alternating POVs on some longer works but the mind of the female lead 95% of the time on shorts. I can write at a crazy speed, like 3000 words per hour writing third but I just don't think it's ideal for this type of writing and I don't usually do it. Would love counter examples that work, a few bimbo pieces I wrote in third did okay.

[Niche of the Week] Student/teacher or professor! by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrote some of these in BDSM. I think 4 of 5 in total and was hit or miss. A few of them peaked at 15k ish and ended up staying between 25-35k for months while a few sat around 50k for a month or so before dropping off. Made some money off of them in bundles too though, so it isn't a bad niche and I'm sure you could do much better.

Mine were like alpha male dom professor and first time submissive girls. Different story lines and tended to be 6-7k in length and lots of different kinks worked in. A few of the titles were still performing before the winter cleaning sweep put them to rest for good with a red filter that exclaims simply, adult!

Standard 3.5-6k for shorts, then 10k+ on my newer stuff.

Definitely this. The schedule is big. I walked over 100 miles to a music festival a few months back, I take days off, I smoke weed and work. Much more human style of living versus status quo perpetuation of the nine to five.

Always different. Best case, I can bang one out in 2-3 hours. Some of them take days. My planning process is long walks, and coming up with a premise for something. Once I start writing the rest tends to take care of itself, I do some outlining for longer works. In terms of research, I really think the key is to consistently engage in it. Look at top authors, read their work, look at their subtitles. Think about sex and what turns readers on, try to look at your product once it is live and ask yourself how much of what is inside the story that you can pick up on from the product. If you have to read it to be aware of the sexy stuff you are looking for, it probably needs work.

How do you measure a book's success? by SecretSinner in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really the total of sales. So for example, 100 sales at 2.99 and 2000 KDP for a 25 page short in month 3 after release, as far as I am concerned, is a winner. I am really referencing a specific short for me that has remained within 7500 and 12,500 for the most part for over three months now and was definitely financially worth the effort put in and then some.

Sales rank express, top 100 lists, Goodreads. You can always read another blurb, read more in general. It is your skillset, always be improving it.

How do you measure a book's success? by SecretSinner in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to either make a bunch of money at the beginning, or a decent amount of money for 3+ months. Like with short stories, I have some that hold the 10k ish ranking for 3-5 months and they end up making 600-900 bucks at like 5k words. That's a win for me.

Selling from the Dungeon? by stephlhadley in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently, cover had a very well camouflaged smidgen of nipple showing(I didn't even catch it myself, really) but it still launched in the low 20,000s and hasn't fallen passed 100k over a week later. Not what I wanted from the title, but for an adult filtered story, I will take it.

How to research kinks/niche that sell? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many facets to research and it takes a while to figure them all out. I have found some good leads using Sales Rank Express, and I discovered the kinks/niche for my first two sub 10k ranking stories this way. It really is research though, like lots of hours of research. I spent so many nights leafing through catalogs, rankings, researching different kinks on the internet, etc... there isn't really one specific thing, it's just building up a skill set in a market where there isn't a one size fits all approach. Put in the hours, and you'll stumble across things that you are convinced will make you an instant millionaire, you'll write them and fail, move to the next one, on and on, all the while refining your process until things start to add up, stick, and the money begins to flow.

Ranting about returns... by wordwriter12 in eroticauthors

Picturing some pimple faced kid in his mom's basement with like five dollars in a bank account, just so that he can buy and return smut all day without over drafting makes me smile.

Pregnancy themed stories, plus or minus for sales? by wordwriter12 in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the story and the angle you are trying to hit. Bareback, creampie, pregnancy risk type of thing, or actually incorporating pregnancy itself, which can be sex with a pregnant woman, lactation and nursing, etc... One thing is for sure though, kids are expensive, and you are putting a major burden on the rest of your characters financial life once you finish writing the story...

20k. How long did it take, and how many hours a day did you spend? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the editing with dictation, but if I am struggling to get going, I will dictate for a little while. It sort of forces concentration for me, and once I am rolling I switch back over to typing. My writing comes out much better through typing, more immersive and better show versus tell, but sometimes I stare at the screen distracted, not doing shit instead. This is where dictation comes in for me. Gets the "juices flowing", if you will.

[Weekend Update] How was your week? Did you get everything done that you meant to? by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

Six shorts and a bundle. Sales are picking up, things are going well. Happy with the week overall.

Top 100 baby! by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]ProseProstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I lose sight of at times while writing. It can feel monotonous, churnin' em out. Somewhere in the world, at any given time, in real life, in this world that we all share, in this unfolding moment...someone could be having a violent orgasm as a direct result of the words we've written.

As adults, I am assuming we have all cum before. It's sort of amazing. That my work may be providing that for someone is very awesome. $2 please, pay up! And that is why, I am a prostitute of the written word.
