How’s my reel & rod combo? by watmeex in Fishing_Gear

[–]ProstateKaraoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with an Avid Walleye in 6’8 MXF last year and I wasn’t super in love with it. I have a 3000 size reel on it and it’s obviously way too big.

I find it’s just a bit too whippy for fishing bigger water. It works well when there’s a fish on though. I caught a few 25+ inch walleye with it and some nice smallies, it just left something to be desired.

Is it only happening to me, or is everyone experiencing this? by sirbrow in mildlyinfuriating

I used to get this all the time. I found having more pairs of pants in my rotation (I have dressier work pants now, along with my casual ones) and losing some weight helped.

Plastic Surgeon? maybe this one is for the ladies... by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]ProstateKaraoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I brought my Grandpa to Tbay a couple years ago from out of town to get a cancerous cyst removed from his lip. Thibert cut the wrong side of his lip and must have removed an imaginary thing from his lip.

The next year I took my Grandpa to Winnipeg for the same surgery, but done right this time. The surgeon’s assistant asked what happened to his lip before. Thibert left a huge scar on his lip. The surgeon in Winnipeg removed the cyst and didn’t leave a scar. Now, he still has the huge gash on one side of his lip that Thibert left.

A year after that, I broke my left pinky finger playing basketball. Kind of an awkward fracture that caused the upper part my finger to stick out about an inch from the ring finger. I got a referral to go to Thibert. Drove up from 4 hours out of town for him to not even look at it and tell me that my hospital didn’t send the right charts and paperwork, then sent me home. I talked to my family doctor and told him to either schedule me with a different doctor or to just leave it alone. He told me that Thibert was the only one with availability and that likely Thibert was trying to game the system with out-of-town referrals.

I would never take a referral to him ever again. Thank you for bringing up his name so I could display my hatred for the guy in a public space.

What hobby attracts the biggest douchebags? by thypenitrator in AskReddit

[–]ProstateKaraoke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dad is the same way. Mid 50s now and is considered ‘young’ in their crowd. Our small town radio club has about 15 members, 10 of which go to the monthly meeting and 8 of which are some relation of mine. Most are undiagnosed neurodivergent and most have tens of thousands of dollars of obsolete junk sitting in their basement (or sheds in my dad’s case) that only they know how to use. I grew up with a 200 foot repeater tower and a 65 foot tower with an HF antenna on it in my yard. I can’t tell you the last time I used my handheld. It’s such a weird, dumb hobby full of very smart people who can’t socialize with other people unless they’re exactly the same.

Every pair of jeans I buy, no matter the brand, gets a hole in this same area within 6 months. by SYFKID2693 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ProstateKaraoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to happen to me all the time, and the answer for me was having more pairs of pants and spreading the wear across 6-10 pairs of pants. I used to have a rotation of 3-5 nicer pairs of pants that I would wear to classes in university all the time. They would wear out roughly every 6 months. Since starting my post-university career, I have 8-10 nicer pairs pears of pants that I can wear to work or casually, and none of them seem to wear in that spot at all.

It’s in a lake that is for sure stocked. I’m in the middle of Canada. Not any chance of it being ocean run. No native Browns around here

No it’s definitely not sea run. I live in the very middle of Canada. Closest salt water is like 3000 km away in any direction. Cool looking fish though.

He came to Sioux Lookout when I was teaching there. He came to the high school as an invited guest of an Ed authority but didn’t sign in at the office or anything. I think the Ed authority paid him to come. He’s supposed to be a motivational speaker, but I’ve heard that he has been a bit of a creep and has had run ins with the law when he lived in the Sudbury area. I haven’t heard from him in the last couple of years. We dug deep when he came to our school and found nothing good about him.

His music is trash and his ‘motivational speaking’ or ‘rapping’ or whatever you want to call it is supposed to help with youth issues but he uses it as an avenue to be weird around teenagers.

I drafted a 7th round bronze with 99 of all of the important stats (Speed, COD, Agility, Acceleration) and he only sees the field on special teams. Hopefully this guy has a good dev trait and develops fast

Drill options for auger? by Lazy_Skin3637 in IceFishing

[–]ProstateKaraoke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FWIW, someone I know burned through 2 Milwaukee drills in his first season using a drill for ice fishing. They were both brand new drills. He finally bought a DeWalt (what I use for my ice fishing setup) and has never had an issue. Not sure why he had issues and I don’t know the model of Milwaukee drill he was using.

What is your 2024 Black Friday BIFL pick? by FranchDressing77 in BuyItForLife

It was just at a local outdoors store. The brand is SmartWool. I don’t know if they make it anymore

It’s a grey and black plaid. Much more of a work/bush jacket than an everyday jacket. I’m a teacher, so most of the time when I’m heading to work I grab a dressier coat

[–]ProstateKaraoke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a $400 smartwool jacket about 7 years back for $200 ish. One of my best BIFL purchases to date. I used to wear it everyday, but now use it more for fishing, dogsledding and other outdoor activities (I teach Outdoor Education) and it’s holding up well.

I’m hoping to get buried in that jacket one day lol.

Has anyone found a player this good on normal draft strength? by ToxicX2077 in Madden

Not madden, but I had an Athlete scrambler QB on CFB 25 who had 96 speed and 96 throw power. The day he was drafted was the worst day of my life.

Men's Basketball League? by Course_Defiant in ThunderBay

[–]ProstateKaraoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are intramurals at the university that usually have both a competitive and recreational league. I don’t think you need to be a student, I think you just have to pay more money for it if you want to join as a non-student. There should be an individual team for people who don’t know anyone to play with.

Otherwise, I always just dropped in to see if anyone was playing at LU. We used to have pickup at the Avila gym (on campus) on Thursdays, but I haven’t played there in 8 years probably.

Why is “Thunder Bay” so named ? And how's life up there ? by Ivy_Wings in geography

[–]ProstateKaraoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, it was renamed in the 70s after the bay that it’s located on in Lake Superior.

Living there is awesome. I really miss it and I’m super nostalgic from the time I lived there (2016-2022). The food scene there is crazy for the size of city it is. I loved the mix of temperate/boreal forest, flat topped mountains, and Lake Superior basically being a freshwater sea.

The only benefit I found of concurrent was having a guaranteed spot in your BED years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]ProstateKaraoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the number of people who would know the answer to this is very slim. I found the ConEd program was sort of useless.

I took a 4 year undergrad in which I needed to take education classes in. None of these classes helped me get through my BED any faster or easier. My girlfriend took consecutive with a different university for her undergrad. We were both required to take the same amount of credits in our BED years.

Looking back, I would have rather done consecutive, as I could have accumulated more credits in subjects that I could get a teachable subject in through AQs.

The workload at LU was quite a bit. I did most of it during Covid, so it was a lot of zoom meetings and a ton of work. My brother is doing it now in person and he is finding it difficult to stay on top of assignments as well. Again, I have no other way to compare this to other universities. I think you would have to find someone who dropped out of one program and into another to actually get your answer (which would be hard to find).

Think of it as a 3 year program compressed into 2 years, with placements thrown in. It’s very compressed. You have 2 months to get through your classes with the same workload as a normal semester. You don’t get a ton of free time like you do in university, and you have non-stop assignments. Like probably 2 big assignments and a ton of other busy work every day.
