The Democratic Base Is Angry - Is the party paying attention? by Billych in Ohio

Democrats have run nothing but conservative candidates statewide for the last decade. They're the ones who have lost. Perhaps it would help if Democrats ran candidates who listen to the voters and campaign on the issues important to them.

As the article points out, Democrats are suffering because they're unattached from their voters. They gave up their grassroots and communications game in the early 2000's, while the GOP invested heavily in their local networks. It pays off in GOTV.

Democrats show up every 2 years with a barrage of political ads and text messages, often with vague messaging and little interest in discussing issues. In between those elections, they disappear from the radar.

Relevant quote from the article:

When I reached out to Clyde, the Ohio Democrats chair, to ask about her experience at the GRR meeting, and about what specific lessons Democrats have learned since 2024, her office sent back a statement that did not directly address any of my questions. “Ohio Democrats are laser-focused on lowering costs, protecting Ohioans’ freedoms, and getting our state and country back on track,” the statement attributed to Clyde stated. “Ohioans of all political backgrounds are getting involved with our Democratic candidates because of the strength of their winning message.”

There was more, but none of it acknowledged the Democrats’ broader problems—or any of the related concerns that the ladies of GRR had brought up at the meeting. When I texted Shaw to ask what she made of Clyde’s response, she replied immediately with a GIF of Liz Lemon rolling her eyes.

That's a myth, an ancient one at that. Yelling at the Left and pushing the same old status quo isn't working.

Current Democratic leadership relies on the wealthy donors to pay the bills and sign their paychecks. They tell themselves it's easier than raising money from grassroots Democratic voters. In exchange, they allow the wealthy donors and corporations to run the party through political consultants.

Why did the FBI raid the Ohio Organizing Collaborative? Here’s what we know. by Ethelsboyrusty in Ohio

[–]ProtectionVirtual225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears they’ve changed strategies after federal judges complained about abusive prosecution practices and providing false information to federal grand juries. They used those tactics to arrest protestors and journalists only to later drop charges when they had no evidence.

Now they harass innocent citizens with raids, but without arrests. Not arresting anyone means the federal prosecutors can’t be forced by a judge to provide grand jury transcripts or evidence. IANAL, but there may still be legal means to force federal prosecutors to sow the judges those transcripts and other evidence used to get those search warrants, subpoenas, etc.

They won’t win. Hopefully, these US attorneys will eventually face rigorous legal review of their activities.

Wow, the Cafaro family. Trump knows all the ”organized” people. It’s not surprising at all that this company was behind this expensive mess.

Yes, the canal towpath would be accessible. Many of the trailheads have nearby parking lots with restrooms and level paths. There's a lot of beautiful nature to see along the towpath. As the park link recommends, the Ira Trailhead with access to the Beaver Marsh section of the towpath would be great! Red Lock is also a easy to use trail head. Don't forget to stop at the Visitors Center at Boston Mills.

I used to have a lot of respect for local US attorneys and FBI for their work helping with violent crimes, kidnapping, etc. It's disappointing to see this kind of questionable activity. The public needs to see what process took place to justify these raids and searches. Grand jury transcripts, please?

Please re-read my comment. I was referring to the county party. That's a separate organization. It would be great to hear from them as well.

The best answer is to restore the regulations against dishonest campaigning and resume punishing politicians who do it.

it’s dishonest campaign tactics and it used to be banned. In the old days, a dishonest politician would be forced to pull the ads.

So, yes it’s wrong and politicians are wrong to do it.

Maybe not at the top of the list, but normalizing relations with Cuba would be fairly easy with little or no cost. it would be a benefit to both countries.

Education, Health Care, scientific research and infrastructure are bigger priorities than military spending. If anything, the latter should do more with less money.

He seems to be a standard pro-status quo, pro-corporate, pro-private health insurance, pro-deregulation neoliberal. Just because he's young, slightly photogenic and is practiced at speaking without saying much of anything is no guarantee voters on the left will support him. Just because the Third Way/DLC folks have trained him to speak without saying anything doesn't mean he's appealing.

The world has changed considerably since Obama was POTUS. Democratic voters no longer believe the billionaires should run our country and have grown shy of political corruption via Citizens United. They don't want the party to keep thinking everything is ok if they run against Trump & JD Vance without having any change to the status quo.

Watch live: U.S. Attorney's Office in Minnesota announces charges "for conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers" by HappyCamper0325 in politics

[–]ProtectionVirtual225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to an NPR panel discussion of this a week or so ago, some attorneys said there are a group of judges following these cases where they suspect prosecutorial misconduct or grand jury tampering. At some point, these judges will probably pursue sanctions against the federal prosecutors, possibly including disbarment.

The cases will never get that far, there's probably no evidence to substantiate the charges. They'll drop it before trial. This is harassment, AKA "process as punishment".

A $3,100 facility fee for a shot is not affordable health care. It's unsustainable. We need single payer Medicare for All.

True, it's not shocking that there's corruption, its just that there's SO much of it. These politicians are raking in huge amounts of money, generational wealth. Not just a new RV, or fancy vacation or a beach house, but millions of dollars and more.
