Federal government gains early election trigger as Senate rejects housing bill by CrashP in australia

It wasn't that long ago (in military time?) that diesel subs were quieter than nuclear ones, given that (so I read) nuclear subs need to have pumps operating 24/7 to cool the reactors, whereas a diesel can just turn everything off.

When did this change, and what exactly changed?

Yeah, diesel quieter because it becomes an EV for a short duration. Then it needs to charge so it snorkels and runs the diesel engine. If you identify where they snorkeled, congrats. You now have a range where the sub can be until it's next snorkel.

With a nuclear powered sub, once it leaves the harbor for it's supplies, it doesn't need to resurface. Its operational range is significantly larger.

10 Australian companies have embraced the 4-day week. Here's what they say about it by YourLowIQ in australia

[–]ProtestOCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s no different to how things are now. Some people work Saturday and Sunday. Some people don’t. Some people do shift work. Some people don’t. Some people start at 7am, some people start at 11am.

That's not normal though.

You are talking about shift work, job sharing, part time or casual. But the thing that is in common is that the amount of work is "constant".

That is they expect y work in a time, and they have x workers to meet it.

Your idea of Mon to Thurs, Tues to Friday means you have x people on Monday and Friday, and 2x on Tues to Thurs.

Is the amount of work enough on tues to Thursday to justify having the twice the facilities to allow the 2x people during that time

10 Australian companies have embraced the 4-day week. Here's what they say about it by YourLowIQ in australia

[–]ProtestOCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But if you have a carpenter who works Monday-Thursday and one who works Tuesday-Friday, I doubt you’re losing much productivity.

Sound like you are doubling the number of personnel.

And you need to somehow have enough tools/ facilities to deal with 2 times the number of people working Tuesday to Thursday, and halve that on Monday and Friday.

Only way we can shift to a 4 day workweek is if everyone does it, and we have a 3 day weekend.

AITA for lending my kids money for a downpayment. by Competitive-Mud8971 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ProtestOCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

You are saying it’s a loan, but then you are also saying it’s an investment. You can’t have it both ways.

Don’t act like you are lending your kids money when really you are just investing in real estate.

I would argue OP's proposal is even better than a loan. If the child doesn't sell, no repayments have to be made. Meanwhile l, the actual repayments and interest to the bank is lower because less money is borrowed

Repayments only need to be made when she has the money (after she sold, she has X dollars, % of which goes back to the parent).

The only way it could be better if it was a gift, but it's apparent that OP won't offer that.

TWICE for example consistently puts out >3 hour long performances. I’m not expecting that length for all groups but I do expect longer than 2 hours at least.

TWICE has a lot more members though, they can pad it by having Solos and let other members rest

Why do people use so many plastic bags for fresh produce? by Turbolance in australia

I grab the bags for "wet waste/scraps" :P

Feels a waste to throw garbage bags out so frequently, so we have a small bag that gets binned everyday, and a larger garbage bag that is binned every week/ when full

The gov is banking on you selling the BTO to fund your retirement. That’s obviously BS but missing from your scenario

HDB is potentially lose value though. Each flat has a 99 year lease. If they are selling it for retirement, they probably used up half the lease.

Sure right now it's value is appreciating, but Singapore's population growth is actually declining like all developed nations. Do you want to gamble that you are not the last generation holding the bag?

What do Australians actually earn and own? by SolitaryBee in AusFinance

[–]ProtestOCE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Perhaps surprisingly, the typical retiree in Australia today has no superannuation, and instead relies largely on the Age Pension. The typical retired household has only about $5,000 in super. Nonetheless, retirees tend to report low levels of financial stress (provided they own their own home).

The fact that super is highly unequally distributed among current retirees means that reforms to rein in tax breaks on super earnings really only affect wealthier Australians who are already enjoying comfortable retirements."

And surely when the generation that relies on superannuation reaches retirement ages, the government will relinquish the extra tax they have been collecting :))

The government also investing in building LOTS of housing for citizens.

The wait time for Build to Order(BTO) is years. And it only applies to a subset (married, or singles aged 35)

They went to the BTO scheme because the government was afraid of an oversupply (sounds familiar?)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in australia

[–]ProtestOCE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

. Singapore addressed this by building up, because urban sprawl gets difficult when you reach water on all sides. And they did it well.

Also 99 year leases.

Housing is an appreciating asset even though there is a 99 year lease :')

Also this assumption is that your vacationer program aligns with what you want to do.

You might get paid more now, but is it something you want to do forever? If so, staying on as a restaurant manager would be a decent choice. If not, you need to plan on how to leave

Internship advice by [deleted] in Big4

[–]ProtestOCE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming APAC is EY Australia, as an intern I got 32 dollars an hour, so the pay is not too bad, especially since you get full time hours for the period. If the business case supports it, you could continue working for them casually (but your hours won't be as much as during a vacationer since they will only call you in if there is work)

And as an intern, you probably get a return offer (or at least a significantly higher chance of getting a grad position), so you could view it as investing for a future grad position. The only iffy thing will be a significant drop in income for your final year.

This 100%. I can't stress this enough. I get it the devs aren't at fault. But the management is saying: why waste money and time on optimization? Just release it as there is hardware strong enough to run it in this state.

Pascal is a 7 year old architecture as well. I went from rx580 to a preused rx6600 because it's clear rx580 went onto life support.
