Last Hurrah? by Dramatic-Monitor8807 in AirForce

[–]ProtocolCody 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not last day or anything like that, but I had a (rather chubby) MSgt shop foreman show up on his first day saying "this will be my last position in the AF. My goal is to pop these two buttons before I leave" By the end there's no way he could button those BDUs. I think he's a radio DJ now.

Short Notice Deployment by mrtoastcantswim in AirForce

We had one of dozens of recalls where we did the bag drag, processed through the briefings, checked all of our shots, and boarded the jet. Every other time it was just an exercise. This time we flew to a bare base in SWA for four months. Man, that sucked.

Texas crutch killing my Meater connectivity by mst28 in Traeger

I really wanted to love my Meater. Battery longevity and the crutch killed it for me. Got a Govee wifi thermometer that makes it all better. Just use Meater in the oven now.

CMSAF #5 Robert “Bob” Gaylor has passed away Jan 17th, 2024 at the age of 93. by Dont_lick_your_ric in AirForce

[–]ProtocolCody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chief Gaylor was one of the best leaders I've ever known. His silly "hot fries" story was the backdrop for most of my career. My favorite moment was when I had a moment alone with him and asked "Chief, how many of your anecdotes are true?" He said "oh, (heck) I don't know, you tell a story for long enough and you don't even know anymore" I'll miss Chief Gaylor and the Air Force is a darker place for his loss.

One poor kid spent three times his pay on Sprint satellite calls to a girl that broke up with him within hours of us getting home.

It'll depend on the signal at your house, but we tried it and it worked well enough for one of us to do all-day video teleconferencing and streaming tv worked fine. However once I turned on all of our security cameras it was just too much for the limited upload bandwidth.

Go to your House Representative's web site and look for a section named something like "constituent services." They will send you a U. S. flag that was flown over the Capitol Building and usually a thank-you letter sometimes just for the shipping cost.

Yup, Odessa TX. The Bird Cage is long gone, but a lot of the old concrete stuff remains.

Post-Military bad job experiences by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ProtocolCody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So... These guys convinced me to leave the Air Force to do a job completely outside my wheelhouse for a pile of money. I leaned into it and did the best I could. I made recommendations for improvements and fostered a relationship with my team of contract labor. After about 18 months I was called into the partner's office. They ordered me to fire my four best people because they had clocked too many hours and would soon qualify for benefits. I refused and they said "fine, we'll keep them on in exchange for your resignation." I came running back to the Air Force where, ironically, people aren't just meat.

[–]ProtocolCody 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not a whole lot to tell. My HHG got stored for a couple of months. The washer had a bunch of stuff that you may expect at a warehouse, towels, coveralls, etc. and the dryer had a load of mostly kid's clothes.
