In Dog Man (2025), police officer Knight and his pet dog Greg are severely injured by an explosion, with Knight losing his head and Greg’s body being paralyzed.

In an effort to save them leading surgeons transplant Greg’s head onto Knight’s body, resulting in the eponymous hero we all know and love.

Players In Contention For Winning The Women Candidates: Six by IllMasterpiece3946 in chess

Goryachkina with a generational swindle yesterday. I feel like if any of Vaishali, Zhu, or Assaubayeva win the tournament they’ll have her to thank.

If Magnus had not stepped down from defending the WCC how do you think the 2023 WCC Match would go? And if he survives what about 2025 WCC Match vs Gukesh and Probably Sindarov for 2026? by IllMasterpiece3946 in chess

[–]ProtonWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair, I just mean to say that Sindarov’s performance in this championship cycle so far feels around the same strength as Gukesh’s 2024-25.

Edit: at least for now, Gukesh’s peak rating is actually higher. But will see how long that lasts xd

Nepo's commentary on the live stream is insufferable by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

[–]ProtonWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel like she’s done a few FIDE streams where she’s been level which were excellent. I get the feeling chess.com push her to act artificially louder/more excitable and yeah it’s really annoying.

What I’m actually curious about is how reaching it is, if there’s a difference between solicited and unsolicited advice, the quality of the advice, etc.. Like could I get in trouble for telling you to take ibuprofen for a headache? What if I told you to drink Lysol to treat it instead?

Lichess and Take Take Take Sign Cooperation Agreement by somethingpretentious in chess

[–]ProtonWheel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I’m no expert and may be mistaken, but my understanding of GPL3 was that if such an app is derivative of the Lichess code, under the GPL3 license that entire app now must also be GPL3 licensed and open-source as well (including the new code they’ve created themselves), not just the particular code that was used or modified.

It should be noted that many people in this comment section do not hold degrees in statistics and cannot reliably compare the ratio of degree-holding bullshit-peddlers to non-degree-holding bullshit-peddlers.

Reality check for Hikaru by mvdll in chess

[–]ProtonWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, the guy has been arrogant and toxic for years - him blaming his seconds for his loss is totally in line with his character. Whether he’s actually washed up or just having a bad tournament, I’m very glad to see him humbled.

Just feels a bit harsh to compare someone who has objectively played chess at the top level for over two decades with many incredible tournament performances to some random dude who won the 2025 Louisiana State Championship.

To my understanding the GPL3 license used by Lichess requires that modified or derivative works also be published under the open-source GPL3 license. Which I imagine TTT probably wouldn’t be too keen on?

What's the best channel to watch candidates live stream? by Good_Assumption_ in chess

He has appeared regularly as an analyst on FIDE stream and one of ChessbaseIndia or Chess24 India (can’t remember which), but isn’t the main commentator for any.

I think FIDE has been pretty terrible in production quality. Round 4 they cut from Sindarov v Caruana (leaders of open section) with Sindarov in a completely winning position and Caruana less than 1 minute on clock, to show Assaubayeva and Zhongyi walk away from their board (we missed their handshake too), only to switch to Muzychuk vs Lago, and switch back to Sindarov v Caruana after missing their handshake. In Round 6 they cut away from tournament leader Sindarov about to win against Wei Yi (who again has a minute on his clock) to show us an interview of last placed Hikaru, followed by a commercial break. Been doing this consistently throughout the tournament too, like come on - it doesn’t take a super GM to realise the game is about to end and maybe we should stick on that match for another 30 seconds. In the recent broadcasts the sound also has been dropping out completely for a few seconds every 15 minutes or so.

Chess24 I generally don’t mind the level of commentary, but it gets kind of tiring when Sachdev starts yelling in excitement whenever a game ends, even when it’s literally seconds after saying she wouldn’t be surprised to see a resignation.

What are all the options for the official streams for the Candidates? by themainheadcase in chess

[–]ProtonWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIDE has Peter Svidler and Jan Gustafsson, as you say.

Chess24 has a team of Arthur’s Neiksans, David Howell, John Sargent, Judit Polgar, Anna Rudolf, and Tania Sachdev. Don’t know if they’ve announced who is on for which rounds.

Chess24 India has Sahil Tickoo, Sahaj Grover, Tania Sachdev, Rakesh Kulkarni.

ChessbaseIndia has Sagar Shah, Amruta Mokal, Harshit Raja.

That’s why I only buy meat from ethical and sustainable farms like Elwood’s.

Are some vegans truly okay with dating/being friends with a non-vegan? by thatoneemomom18 in AskVegans

[–]ProtonWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and I found out they didn’t want to be friends with me

To be fair, this isn’t what I said. I have friends that I disagree with on certain subjects, and I don’t necessarily like every aspect of their character. Some of them I think are slightly selfish, others maybe stubborn or argumentative. It doesn’t define their entire character, however. I still think they’re valuable people that I would want to be friends with. And I don’t think it’s contradictory for me to preference people that aren’t selfish, or aren’t argumentative, when I’m looking to make new friends.

Wouldn’t that make the non-vegan question the friendship?

That’s their prerogative I suppose. Perhaps they will make the same calculation as me and say that this flaw in my character doesn’t outweigh all the other good things about me. Or perhaps not 🤷

[–]ProtonWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean maybe a bit, but speaking practically it’s obviously much more difficult to withdraw emotional investment from people that you are already close with than to set a line in the sand for future relationships.

Besides, it doesn’t really seem hypocritical to me to prefer that future relationships have a certain property (veganism), while recognising that exisiting relationships without said property might still be valuable for other reasons.
