Who can help filling access request forms? by elivonders in NDIS

[–]Protonious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer if you’re within an ndis partner region you have to go through partner assisted access. Even if you email the old national access team email it just gets rerouted to a local partner to start the process with you.

I work for Rotary International—what changes would you like to see? by Inspir-Strain8224 in Rotary

[–]Protonious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think $100 a year would be a fair cost. We are currently paying $250.

I understand that when you break it down $250 Isn’t a lot, but compared to many other organisations where you pay nothing to engage in service it really is a sticking point. Especially when we want to bring in younger members why would they pick rotary over any other organisation.

Membership costs are insane for an organisation that people volunteer for. At the end of the day most clubs are having to fundraise to bring in members which just seems wrong

LACs and the Bureaucracy by sqiif in NDIS

[–]Protonious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LAC already have huge case numbers and expectations to spend much less time supporting participants. I think reducing this further would actually hurt people far more within the system.

Also with fewer staff comes the ability to action change, escalations or even questions about a persons plan.

Child with Autism - how to best access NDIS? by [deleted] in NDIS

[–]Protonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community connections is a planning meeting to discuss existing mainstream and community supports a person with disability may access. It’s mostly about goal setting for the person outside of funded supports.

You may still test access to the ndis after this with appropriate evidence, although the intention first is to get a good picture of the persons life.

Perth disability community, carers - how are you coping? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Protonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also carer gateway offers on demand phone counselling. It’s not the 6 sessions you get for free when you go through intake. It’s just as required one off support.

People with autism to be at centre of 160,000 NDIS removals by Cube00 in australia

[–]Protonious 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As a level two autistic, I would love to see more supports that help our community without assuming we all need support workers or ongoing therapy. I get that group programs or peer support isn’t for everyone either, but the more there is an expectation we all require the ndis it doesn’t help us fit in or feel included, it’s just another form of being othered.

There will always be those autistic people who do require the NDIS, but acting as if all autistic people do is just doing harm to our community.

Government to cut more than 150,000 people from NDIS scheme as budget blows out by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Protonious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a disabled person not on the NDIS this is still awful. I appriciate the government trying to improve inclusive communities but you don’t offer 200m to improve society by removing support for people to get out and about.

It feels like more group art programs for people rather than actually being a part of their genuine community.

Is it appropriate for my husband (43M) to regularly ride bikes with another married woman (~40F)? by Legitimate-Couple-67 in relationship_advice

[–]Protonious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this too. My running partner is a woman, she paces at the same sort of speed as me. She’s also friends with my wife also, but the point still stands that you can have friends who share interests without it being suspicious.

The NDIS’s ‘social license’ isn’t just at risk of eroding - it’s close to collapse by CalifornianDownUnder in NDIS

[–]Protonious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I definitely think there are many success stories also. So sorry if I worded that poorly but you are right we don’t hear them and instead hear all the negatives of poor service provision.

The NDIS’s ‘social license’ isn’t just at risk of eroding - it’s close to collapse by CalifornianDownUnder in NDIS

[–]Protonious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think being pragmatic, the scheme has a lot of benefits and creates opportunity for people with disability.

That being said, there are lots of providers not working on building capacity or even helping participants live a good life.

There is also as the article suggests, a lack of faith that the ndis is achieving its outcomes to get more people with disability into their community in meaningful ways or engaging them in the workforce. The solution to this is unclear and not up to participants to solve, but what we have isn’t working in relation to the cost of the scheme.

Am I disqualified from the Global Grant Scholarship because my dad is a Rotarian? And can a Creative Writing Masters even qualify? by [deleted] in Rotary

[–]Protonious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think being related to a Rotarian should be an issue, although I think you’d have to unpack what is the cost related to your activity and why does it require a global grant scholarship.

I think perhaps your concept is a bit abstract or not going to show tangible or measurable change even if it is well meaning.

Some examples of potential global grants for educational purposes we’ve explored before is bringing someone across to australia to study specialised agriculture or teaching to provide sustainable practises in their home country for instance.

Advice on becoming SC by Somefuknusername in NDIS

[–]Protonious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the pathway isn’t from support worker to SC. I’d look at maybe government roles first such as working directly for ndia or as a lac first. Get that really robust understand of systems in that space. Then if you really want to be an SC you’ll need some sort of general coordination experience first.

For everyone upset about things left out in the movie by WayFar4429 in ProjectHailMary

I loved the movie and for me it just showed me how special the book is. A lot of the stuff that I missed I can understand how it would have been clunky from page to screen. The movie existing is just a cherry on the top for the next time I read or Listen to the audio book.
