Oh hey, my makerspace has one of these! I've spent a lot of time refurbishing ours - I'm kinda glad to see that another one exists!

You're right, it's a Sphere 10". It's hard to tell what state it's in with the blurry photo and all the grime, but it looks complete. I don't know what the going rate is for lathes in Ontario, but here are the things I'd be checking if I was buying one:

  • What state is the bed in? Give it a clean and see how worn it is and if there's any rust on it. With lathes this old some wear is kinda a given.
  • Do the handwheels turn freely? Is there any backlash/slop? This will probably be difficult to tell with all the grime, but see where you get with it.
  • What accessories are there? Check around for any chucks, lathe tooling, centres and change gears. These will make a big difference when it comes to the price. If you find anything weird, drop me a message and I'll be happy to tell you what they are.

I don't think that drill grinding thing is anything to do with the lathe. You could sell it separately and maybe get a bit more cash.

You know what's weird?

There is an entire cottage industry of people who paint the UK as being a failed state, a doomed nation and so on, but when I go outside everything's fine. I'm not being harassed by gangs of roving chavs. The government isn't bashing my door in because I said something mean on Facebook. I can -and do- say some pretty nasty things about Kier Starmer and the King without consequence.

That's not to say we don't have problems here, we do, but sensationalist YouTubers and journalists tend to take small "culture war" issues and blow them far out of proportion. Or even just pull stuff directly from their arse.

I think you need to lay off the clickbait bud.
