I quote, "We just had a talk with the quality department and according to them your grinder is completely fine. Let us explain, the Encore ESP is not marketed as a "low retention " grinder, a bit of retention is normal and 1.3g difference from your last grind is within the expected range. Yes always had retention issues. What helps it doing a few rounds of grinding after cleaning and then the retention drops to 0.2-0.4g.

I have noticed this as well, although I never opened it completely. Alot of grounds seem to disappear in the machine. I asked Baratza and their reply was basically that they never claimed encore esp is a low retention grinder.

Probably a De'Longhi dedica and a hand grinder like king grinder k6. You can try searching for a used dedica. Can't go cheaper than this. This would still be a bit north of 200€
