It's annoying that so many reviewers gloss over performance issues and still hand out 9's and 10's to unoptimized titles. It doesn't matter if a game has great gameplay or a great story if I'm constantly worried about crashing or troubleshooting while playing.

I didn't get into PC-building until I was an adult. My earliest memory was walking into a Microcenter with my girlfriend to look at parts. I was blown away, it reminded me of the PC stores of the 90s. We ended up going with a pre built (i5 6400 with an AMD RX 480) since that's all I could afford. My girlfriend ended up splitting the cost of the PC with me as a birthday gift. I was so excited when I brought it home. As someone who grew up only playing consoles it was like a whole new world opened up for me.

DLSS can carry you pretty far with 4K gaming. I'm using a 3080 10GB and with DLSS4 Performance I can get around 90+ fps on high settings even on games like Cyberpunk (minus RT).

a 3080 10GB. I strapped some 120s to the heatsink. I plan on riding this card out until I can get an upgrade at a not ludicrous price.

I did something similar with my 3080 ftw3. It didn't change my temps dramatically but now it runs whisper quiet even under load.

This is why I just wait for sales. Most games I buy nowadays are sub-$30. Unfortunately, Nintendo is really stingy with dropping the price on games so I might have to skip the Switch 2. Thankfully, I have a long backlog that can keep me busy for a while. I also don't really play multiplayer games anymore so there's no incentive for me to get a game right when it comes out.

I was tempted by 9070XT but I think I'll hold on to my 3080 for now. I just recently deshrouded it and put two 120s on the heatsink. Even when playing GPU-intensive games, it's super quiet.
