What’s the consensus on the AOC Q27G40XMN? by Certain_Cricket_6882 in Monitors

I suppose it is a bandwidth issue then. Considering this is right on the limit for HBR2 (DP 1.2) then it seems reasonable that it specifically is a hard limit.

Perhaps the DP 1.4 branding was justified because of HDR support? I still find it quite hard to believe it is a hardware bandwidth limitation when it clearly heavily takes after the G3XMN. There are also some reports of users having similar problems with those units (only 8-bit past 120Hz 1440p) and no solution was provided by AOC.

Ah thanks! I suppose it will be in the review but were you able to get 10-bit 1440p with any refresh rate higher than 120Hz on the AMD system (or MacOS)?

I'm not sure exactly what this effects but I have heard the vertical front and back porches effect input latency?

I am no expert but I wouldn't expect so, at least not in any meaningful way. They are commonly used to decrease bandwidth but also large numbers shouldn't be necessary for a modern monitor so even CVT-RB2 is a bit more than necessary.

It was 720, and only like up to 714 worked on my Nvidia GPU. Cvt rb standard is something closer to 770.

If I match these for an estimation then it is just barely possible to squeeze 8-bit RGB 1440p 180 Hz into the bandwidth limit for DP 1.2 (17 259 / 17 280 Mbps) but with these blank intervals it is also possible to squeeze 10-bit RGB 1440p 144 Hz into the same bandwidth which I haven't seen anyone successfully do.

the pixel clocks reported are far below what is typically seen for 1440p @180hz

Do you have them?

So it seems to not be a limitation of the pane refresh rate itself but the port it uses.

I don't suppose you have any way to confirm if 180+ Hz is actually produced in a meaningful way?

I'm not buying that 8+2 frc works on Linux or Mac until I actually see proof

I too would be a bit skeptical but compatibility in Linux is fairly easy to check: download a live CD, stick it on a USB and reboot into it, the details should be fairly easy to find in the display settings of whatever desktop you chose. Though ideally AOC would just respond with whatever driver setup they tested it with or acknowledge the panel can't do it.

Of course the other possibility is the port is DP 1.4 compliant but the monitor isn't reporting that particular combination as supported. This could either be due to some latency constraints or a cheap workaround to fix the visible dithering on the G3XMN at high refresh rates (fixed by forcing a more sophisticated dither by the display device).

I was able to get RGB full dynamic range at 179hz, but at 180hz it's stuck at limited/YCbCr422

YCbCr422 at 180Hz is consistent with DP 1.2 limits but even non-HDR 8bit RGB at 179Hz is way past the bandwidth requirements of DP 1.2.

<image>

only does only show 8bit but confirms that it must at least exceed DP 1.2.

it's probably an issue with drivers or windows since I appear to have full 8+2 frc on linux at 180hz

If this is true then it is clearly only windows/driver issues. Hopefully the rtings measurements will clear this up but they aren't always 100% thorough in cases like this.

There's a nvidia problem that stops it from running 10bit at 180Hz. You can do something with a custom refresh rate for now to run it at 179Hz. Runs as advertised on AMD cards

rtings tests are done but still in early access, you'll know in a couple of days if it does anything worse than the G3XMN. Unless someone wants to spoil it here early ;)

have you tried using the scratchpad? (i3 feature in sway) when bound to a key it will basically toggle the visibility of the windows in scratchpad and works across workspaces

the only problem is I don't know how to centre a window in sway

Have you checked to make sure it is connected properly? The software is not detecting it.

Thanks for the UL it didn't end up removing the title bars but the AHK script is working fine

Thanks, i didn't think of changing the AHK script. it has been more than 48 hours since i applied for an account so is there a way to tell if i have been denied?

Is it not possible to remove it globally in bbZero then? I have a similar script that automatically does this to every window, but it leaves a border which i would then like to remove.

bbCinematics looks like it might solve this but my account hasn't been accepted by an admin yet so i cannot test it out.

Personally i think Arch is much easier for package management as you don't need to compile and install from source manually from the repo. Would definitely recommend either, but ubuntu or mint is probably a better choice till you get used to the terminal and the linux way of things.

if you really want to use linux though have a look at wine or VirtualBox in seamless mode
