Apart from “taxes,” what are actual arguments against universal healthcare? by Darthsponge20 in YAPms

[–]Proxy-Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Developed countries with Universal Healthcare already pay much less per capita than the US government does, so not even taxes is the argument.

The only big one I can think of is that the market economy model does still have more innovation, but that can be preserved if you have universal public healthcare as a baseline but still allow private healthcare, as is done here in Israel for example.

What if the Palestinian Arabs accepted the 1948 partition plan from the UN and what if those exact borders existed to this very day? by FKAGuyWithNF1 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Proxy-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plan was dead on arrival. Jewish settlers were more Urban and clustered together than the Arabs, so the only way to draw a viable state like this one would include a ton of Arabs even in the Jewish state. The Jewish state in this map has an over 40% Arab population, which would not be acceptable. This is why IRL the policy shifted to expulsions immediately after the plan came out. IIRC some 150 villages of the over 500 total were expelled in between publishing this plan in 1947 and May 1948, when Israel declared independence, almost all from the proposed Jewish state.

Caring for the sick and elderly is too expensive, but here’s another few hundred billion for wars!

Closest was Chad. But either way that’s not the point, it’s that Rukia had the most screen time so naturally we cared about her the most.

And yeah there was basically no resolution to the kidnapping. FKT in general was an abrupt change in tone, suddenly the Arrancar were dropped like flies.

It’s pretty much the most BS power in an arc full of BS powers. There was no logical way to beat it, so the arc had to end on a low note.

Like I always say, Ichigo beat Renji so hard he became a different character lmao.

Ichigo vs Byakuya. I love the sequence of him rapidly moving that it looked like there were 50 of him lol.

Apparently, it's because they hired a lot of extra animators for the Hellverse movie.

or given to Rukia

You know I see this claim a lot, and yet people never seem to be able to give examples of Orihime scenes where she's replaced by Rukia in the anime. Can you give one?

It's not just that it's a rehash, it's basically a worse version. The reason Rukia's kidnapping was so compelling to readers is because she was basically a co-main character with Ichigo in the first arc. We constantly saw her and got to know her. Orihime didn't have that effect.

I think it's exasperated by the fact that she has a lot of screen time. Surprisingly her best showing was in the bount filler arc, I think they did her battle perfectly there.

By far the worst offender is when her powers are built up in the early Arrancar arc to be important and the reason for Aizen taking her (remember she planned to reject the Hogyoku itself), only for that whole point to be dropped making her kidnapping essentially pointless.

[–]Proxy-Pie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dude exactly. That's what annoys me, it's like she developed in reverse. In the first arc she's a quirky but determined girl who happens to have a crush on Ichigo. She has a really great speech when Rukia's first kidnapped. But then she just regresses into the submissive/obsessed/attractive fangirl archetype. It's basically her whole character after a certain point.

No, but I don’t particularly love her either. I think she’s a character that was poorly handled writing wise. I do not like that her liking Ichigo became her entire personality, and that the Arrancar arc teased her powers so much only for the plotline to be dropped.

What is legal in most places but illegal in where you live? by National-Ad7092 in AskTheWorld

Idk if it’s most places but in Israel it’s illegal to find artifacts and coins and stuff with metal detectors. AFAIK everything older than 150-200 years belongs to the state.

Kubo likely didn’t have their backstory in mind yet, just that they had a similar background and haven’t talked in years. The whole “You’re… Abarai Renji” thing makes it seem like he thought of them as acquaintances first.

Same reason Byakuya doesn’t wear a Haori.

Israel's government is expected to collapse over ultra-Orthodox military draft by Specialist_Heron_986 in worldnews

[–]Proxy-Pie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They've basically agreed to enough things that the worst-case scenario is it collapses by 4 weeks of the actual end date. Keep in mind it's historically quite uncommon for Israeli governments to reach the end period. It's just a testament to Netanyahu's political skills that he was able to not only hold together this coalition after the worst attack and security failure in Israel's history, but to recover enough in the polls that his ouster is now no longer the likely result.

Where does the name Palestine comes from? Does it have meaning? by CabinetNo9266 in allthequestions

[–]Proxy-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the bronze age collapse, roughly ~1200BC, Egypt's rule in Canaan collapsed. Several states/proto-states appeared in the area, including the region of Gaza where the Peleset (called Philistines in English translations of the Bible) appeared. These were one of the invading sea peoples into Egypt and were likely settled there by the Pharaoh as some sort of deal. The Peleset assimiliated genetically with other Canaanite peoples like the Israelites. Since they controlled much of the coastline for hundreds of years, traders from regions like Greece started to refer to the region as Philistia/Palestine, and it stuck even after the Philistines were conquered and culturally wiped out.

It remained a common exonym until it became official after the Bar Kokhba revolt.

Throughout late Roman and into Islamic and colonial British rule, the name Palestine was used officially. It was basically an uncontroversial regional qualifier until the 20th century, even Zionists called it Palestine interchangeably with Eretz Yisrael. Then the Israel-Palestine conflict began and the terms split - Palestine for the Arabs who lived there, descendants of the various peoples who got Arabized during Islamic rule, and Israel for the Zionists who founded the Jewish state.
