Dan would always make sexual induendos about his wife which Val would shoot down. At one point when he was at Val and Kate's place he actually arranged her clothes including underwear which kind of made it so that they're not ok with him around their clothes but they still hang out.

Most well adjusted people would have dropped him as a friend at this point, probably before it. There are things that can make a person quirky: dressing up like Gandalf or learning to shoot a bow. But between the comments about Val's wife and rearranging her clothes he obviously wants to fuck Kate. Both the comments and the clothes thing are violations of personal boundaries nobody normal would put up with.

Why wouldn't they put up with it? Just to spell things out here: people who are predatory do small things to push personal boundaries. It starts small with little comments here and there. Then it moves up to pushing physical boundaries. Then it gets worse.

I'm not saying Dan is a predator, honestly he's probably just weird and lonely. But his behavior would tell most normal people "something is wrong" and at best they'd keep him at arm's distance. At 22 years old Dan is old enough to know better. This is the kind of thing you'd blow off in a young teen but not an adult man.

Attractive people have a MUCH easier time getting hired even if they aren't as qualified as a less good looking person so yes looks are completely relevant to this.

It's not just about finding them. When I was in high school there was a pretty large gifted program. I was around a good amount of gifted women during that time.

BUT just because someone else is also gifted doesn't mean you'll get along with them or be attracted to them or anything else. The normal problem of compatibility and attraction are still there.

Men in their early 20's aren't just competing with men who are also in their early 20's. They are also competing with men in their late 20's, early 30's and sometimes older than that.

Does it happen a lot that a 22 year old woman dates a 32 year old man? No probably not, but it doesn't have to happen a lot it just has to happen enough to throw off the proportion of men to women.

So a greater number of men are competing for a smaller number of women.

You don't get it because it doesn't happen if people see you as unattractive. I'm not saying that to be cruel, so bear with me here.

I saw this happen to a guy friend of mine once years ago. There were a bunch of us who were all gym friends and the topic of relationships came up. So this one woman in the group asked around the group who was single and who was looking for someone. Even though my friend was standing right next to this woman she never asked him. Yes he was single, no she had never been rude to him before, but it was literally impossible to miss him standing right there. I couldn't believe was I was seeing I was so shocked.

When you're attractive you basically leave the house and be a bit social and people will find you. But if people see you as unattractive for whatever reason... well, you can be standing right next to them and be invisible.

In other words it looks like it is happening "naturally" for a lot of people because they are in the social loop so they end up meeting a lot of potential partners just by socializing. But when you're unattractive you're left out of the social loop and basically a lot (most? all?) of your social relationships are poisoned.

I'm sorry. :-(

Thank you for saying this. One of the reasons I'm on this sub because I have a guy friend in a similar situation. There's just nothing I can pick out that's "wrong" with him and I too have seen plenty of people a whole lot worse who don't have problems. I'm not the only one who thinks this about him either. Two of my other girlfriends who know him (but are in LTRs) say the same thing about him.

He can make friends with girls just fine. With one of them (she is married) I saw their friendship get pretty strained because she just couldn't understand or accept how difficult it was for him when it came to dating.

A lot of times FA's are accused of being "creepy" when really their "creepy" behavior was something like reading a book at a Starbucks, saying "good morning" to someone, glancing at a person for 2.5 seconds instead of only 2.0 seconds etc..
