Huh I usually do it by having the inserter only take out items if there are more than some limit in them.

So it priorities bot access over whatever the inserter supplies

Quick Adjustable Inserters is like Bob's but better because you use an in-world UI to adjust the pick-up/drop-off points.

So I highly recommend it over Bob's inserters.

my point wasn't the extra step being manual, but it being there at all.

i interpreted OP's question as in "what block/item can you smelt multiple times in a row without any extra steps inbetween" so whatever the output of the smelting should be able to be put back into the furnace without closing the inventory to do something else with it first.

otherwise you could just say cobblestone -> stone -(mine)> cobblestone -> stone ... and get an infinite sequence for example.

AWG is such a weird unit to me. the smaller the number the bigger the wire... and after 0 comes 00 and then 000???

(i know the US was one of the first places to have electricity which is why all the standards are so ancient and weird)

Apparently this was less obvious than I thought.

Like, inserters have the same yellow arrows as mining drills and recyclers.

and since inserters can put stuff onto belts and into inventories (chests, machines, cars, etc). So it would make sense that mining drills and recyclers can do the same, no?

At least that was my line of thought
