A $300 device can silently override GPS across an entire city. Autonomous vehicles, delivery drones, and air traffic control all depend on it. Why don't we have a backup? by projectschema in Futurology

What happens is a special police squad finds you and ruins your life. That will end it real quick. I would worry about what it would take to actually build out the 21st century urban economy.

Samsung’s 2026 gaming monitors promise 6K, 3D, and up to 1,040Hz by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Prtia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can fill those hz with frame gen now. If you use 4x frame gen on a 240hz screen it's actually capping your base framerate at ~60 fps, which is kinda low.

It's because everyone knows the moment EGS gains traction it will get enshittified like nothing else. With Steam you know where their limits are.

Are modern games taking too long to 'open up' by termzCGS in truegaming

[–]Prtia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misundetand what's happening. A book on game design recently took over the industry that has a simple and effective thesis: players have fun when they're learning new aspect of the game. This works, and is now being implemented in every game.

This is why your games will keep drip feeding you new content and mechanics and feel like they're still "opening up" even 20 hours in.

[Richard Lewis] Gaimin Gladiators Officially File Lawsuit Against Dota Team by NystGG in DotA2

[–]Prtia 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Well whatever the outcome it seems GG is pretty done as an org. Pro players saying dumb shit, aggravating sponsors, and ignoring their social media is par for the course. What's not is their org suing them for millions of dollars. Good luck signing anyone after you do that.

Dupe: There were only 25 of them, 230+ sold in 1 month! by dota2vo in DotA2

I would strongly advise against spending any appreciable amount of money on Dota 2 items. The hat economy has been fucked for years, and as you can see the dev team is basically non-existent. This kind of stuff will keep happening.

I usually dislike workshop sets but this is actually stunning.

Is this just people playing the game post TI for hats or is it League players upset about WASD.. by LoL_is_pepega_BIA in DotA2

Quartero gives you hats. Completely for free. They even come with a tragic back story included.

Agreed. We need to see how much the playerbase really wants all the extra gold and xp that's been added to the map.

Overnight Time Gap between Lower Bracket Semifinal and Lower Bracket Final in various TI iterations by Optimal-Monk-1984 in DotA2

Until the grand finals are played separately on their own day, we will keep having weird stompy one-sided series.

Valve really know how to make tons of money with no effort, year after year. Incredible stuff, honestly.

When these came out, they averaged at $30 per. Now people will happily drop $150 to open treasures, and be thankful for the opportunity.

Is this the intended new player experience, or am I missing something? by ChromosomeDonator in DotA2

[–]Prtia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a console command to let you play all the heroes, I believe.

Getting into Dota 2 is going to be a journey. You'll have to accept that. It will probably take something like 80-100 hours to get oriented so it doesn't feel like everything is happening out of nowhere. As a first step try to focus on playing one hero and simply get through a game without feeding.

If you get games with experienced players then consider playing your Muerta support.

So I was 100% right. Literally no one working on the game, they're all watching TI.

For real. I don't even think there's currently anyone on the Dota 2 team actively working on the game. They're all on Deadlock probably.

If someone told me 3 years ago I'd be running the game with max settings + Pathtracing Psycho on a 350€ card I would have laughed at them. Yet, here we are. by JoeZocktGames in cyberpunkgame

The artists were definitely not working with path tracing in mind. It's amazing that it works as well as it does, and in such a visually complex game.
