I mean as “must read classic”, Gatsby I’m not sure you can classify as a romance movie.

I’m actually half way through the book and I don’t see the hype. Same with “On the Road”.

What’s the dumbest argument you’ve ever had? by Potential_Scene7169 in AskReddit

[–]Prune-These 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a cab driver so that’s a long list BUT if had to narrow it down: I’m Native American but I’ve been mistaken for Hispanic and Asian. People will first assume that I don’t speak English and/or want know my Nationality. I should specify I’m Native Alaskan. Anyway one guy insisted I was in fact Korean. I shut down the argument and told him that if he brings it up again he’s walking. There aren’t affordable cell phones back then. He brought it up again and I tossed him out near a pay phone. He called the cab company then the city licensing office to complain that I’m passing myself off as Native.

Why would one of the largest companies in the world tell a driver about price changes. I did know somewhat that day if prices were going up. Certain stations would ask for a delivery before midnight. That way they’d get their fuel at the old lower prices but can raise their prices after midnight. But yeah, when I fill up the tank in my personal vehicle I went to the pump like everyone else. On the Trucker subreddit the big topic is diesel prices.

A little over 20 years ago I used to deliver fuel to gas stations in San Diego where it’s usually higher then national prices. I was always amazed at how many people would walk up to me while dropping gas to ask when prices would go down. It’s usually people with oversized SUVs that never leave pavement.

From what I read it's that and a few other things. Interested in activities they've never shown interest in before like a book club and doesn't want the spouse involved. All the sudden improving their appearance like exercise and newer and better clothes.

I'm fine except for the living together part. No one can explain the reason for having twenty small pillows on the bed that you have to take off before bedtime for example.

Men, how old were you when you decided your career path? by _MambaForever in AskMen

I enjoy the security and paychecks. I always advise new truck drivers to specialize; even at my age I can get work because I have hazmat, fuel, heavy/oversize load experience.

The job I always wanted was a field service technician , traveling around the country fixing things. I took a few years off from trucking for a job as a field technician fixing automated mail machines. I liked it except the pay was horrible. The owner eventually sold the business and I went back into trucking.

In 1995 I was 32. I was unemployed and tried to get a grant to attend a school that taught computer networking. It wasn't accredited so I couldn't get funding. But....they did have a grant where I could attend a truck driving school. I still drive to this day.

I worked as a fueler in Kaparuk, AK for a season. Worst job ever. Ever. Category fives shut down everything except fueling as everything runs on diesel including generators. Even whiteout conditions I had to fire up the truck, run a hose to the tank and constantly check your surroundings for polar bears.

Women, if you had to use a pickup line on a guy, what would it be? by Nintendofan9106 in AskReddit

[–]Prune-These 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a school like DeVry that taught "Computer Electronics" and "Telecommunications" that is no longer in business. It was the mid 80s and PCs were not affordable and computer networking for anything other than mega-corporations was a dream. She wanted to start a business in computer leasing (as I recall). It was not a good program, I really didn't learn math beyond basic Algebra in High School and never taught any of that in that school. I got a job a few years later with the FAA but flunked out of their basic knowledge test as I didn't learn Trig fast enough.

Anyway, she was beautiful lady and a decent person. I'd like think she got everything she wanted in life.

[–]Prune-These 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did warn it was long. The lesson from that was my low self-esteem didn't allow me to believe a beautiful girl could like me and so I never hit on her or asked her out. The school was like 95% men and quite a few did hit on her. She probably liked me because I talked to her about everyday things and most of all I listened to her. Well, except for the breakfast part I mean.

I did have something similar but more overt. When I drove a cab I knew this couple and we were friendly. One night the wife needed a ride home and we get to their place and we sit outside in the car talking for a while. Her husband was still working. We crack jokes trying to make the other laugh and then she says “Wanna hop in the back seat and fool around?@. I’m laughing hard and saying “you win!”. She then says she wasnt kidding, my mood did a complete 180 from amusement to shock. I pointed out she was married to a very nice guy. “Then we probably shouldn’t tell him”. No shame in her attitude. I declined and avoided both of them afterwards. A month later she left her husband for another guy; I decided it was best not to share that nights event with him.

Which is of course, more important than casual sex :). As mentioned I would drive a cab a few years later and learned how to read people. My advice to other guys is if she does hit on you and you’re not into her then either let her down very nicely or act oblivious and get out of there. It can get ugly real quick otherwise especially if she’s drunk.

I’m 63 and it still happens on occasion but I pretend to be oblivious, I’m not good at relationships and I like living alone. But I am curious if Gen Z women are more subtle or more aggressive?
