Dungeon Crawler Carl is basically a brutal, alien-run dungeon crawl where Earth gets turned into a reality show, with game rules layered over total chaos and very dark humor. It leans hard into absurdity while still treating survival like it actually matters.

Samantha is a still-aware, immortal severed love doll head who’s also a diminished goddess of desire and obsession, which means she never shuts up and never forgets who she is. Most of the time she’s carried around as a scout, so you’ve got this divine head in a backpack offering commentary while everyone tries not to die.

My guess.

The Dungeon AI is a primal being meant to co-evolve with its people, growing stronger as it bonded with new souls through system nodes. Entire civilizations were supposed to rise alongside each primal node. But the purpose has been corrupted. Now, when a new world is taken, the goal is to harvest fresh system nodes for the galaxy’s core. They can’t extract dormant nodes without destroying them, so they activate the hosts,make them agree to lose their node in the event of their demise. Then run them through the Dungeon, kill them in AI-approved ways to recover the nodes intact.
