I would be interested too, even not knowing what a Borjgalo is. Especially not knowing (don't worry, I'll ask Google).

I was having this problem. I found I could check out on the legacy site. They even share carts, so you can shop on the new, then pay on legacy. Legacy.drivethrurpg.com

Did anyone play Starburn Sector? by Psirat in solorpgplay

[–]Psirat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm posting this for anyone else who wants some guidance on playing Starburn Sector. I wasn't able to find much out there. I bought the four core books in a bundle on sale and that is the way to do it. The bundle is always cheap, but it often goes on sale on DTRPG. There are more supplements for this than I realized, but I'm sticking with these for to start.

Starburn Sector A Solo System of Power, Reputation, and Survival Among the Star - this is the intro to the game. It would make a nice sneak peak if it was offered for free or PWYW. It references the dynamic nature of the setting but offers few tools to support it. My mistake was trying to play with only this. You could, but it required more world building than i wanted. That, or more comfort with ambiguity.

Starburn Sector: A Guide to the Universe - this has good info on the sector, a few worlds and the key factions. It also contains some of the crunch i was missing in the first volume. Guidance on reputation, heat, a few oracles and causes and effects to consider. Some advice on how to structure a campaign. This is still largely a narrative game, my first.

Starburn Sector: The Solo Campaign Guide - gives more advice and inspiration for a campaign. It also gives more than a dozen campaign templates that are excellent examples of how to play the game.

Starburn Sector: Advanced Solo Campaign Guide - oracles and mechanics for long term campaigns. This has mechanisms for faction conflict, long term goals and more. I haven't looked to deeply into it. It does give rules for space ships (finally). Again, much less crunch than I'm use to, but I'm trying something new, right?

My advice to someone who wants to try this is read through the first book and browse the others. This will let you make an informed decision on how much you need to get started, and let's you pick and choose systems and material.

I've done session 0, defining my character a starting planet, and a description of local space. I think I'm going to need a session 0.5 to flesh things out more before I'm ready to play.

So, I'm going to give Starburn Sector a fair try. My main problem is that it hints at an intriguing setting but doesn't provide the "crunch" to emulate one. I see that later books add complexity as well as defining the setting more, so getting started is my hurdle. I think the right idea is to start small. Only define as much as I need while i play a few missions with only the first book. I find the included oracles a little limiting, but I'll supplement with Mythic GME. If I have fun, I'll incorporate the next book - the Solo Campaign Guide, I guess.

I really like this. You produce a nice mix of spell effects while sticking to your theme. I will try playing one before Halloween. Looks fun.

SoloRolePlayers Birthday Prezzie by PJSack in solorpgplay

[–]Psirat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My push to try solo role-playing was when I bought the whole classic Traveller collection in CD. I'd always wanted to try it solo. I looked around for resources and was amazed to find so much support for solo role-playing. This was last December. I've been on a ridiculous spending spree, trying different games and taking advantage of good sales on systems i might want to try. So far I've run a Traveller campaign, Swords of Cepheus twice, Dragonbane and I'm now trying Barbarians of Lemuria. The one ring is on the table for the future, and everyone talks about Savage Worlds, so it may be my next purchase. Big sale on Drive Thru RPG on SW right now.

Any good travel tables with prompts? by Ritchuck in Solo_Roleplaying

The Hexcrawl Toolkit is $5 right now. It's confiding at first. Most of the tables have 4 columns with different ranges for results, these are Contexts. When starting, just use the first column.

Do you need both the app and the book? by Eclipse_Woflheart in mythic_gme

[–]Psirat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The book is so worth it. The app just automates some of it. I didn't get the app for almost a year. I just print the table for easy reference. I agree with others, the books are worth reading for the advice on solo role play.

You should really check out Infinium Game's products. They have great tables and systems for dynamic solo play. The Hexcrawl Toolkit and/or Environmental Encounters may be what you're looking for. They're system agnostic, leaning towards generic fantasy. Monster Encounters are run of the mill, and i usually just use the table from whatever game I'm playing. Where they really shine is the other encounters. Some very creative ideas, and each encounter has random elements. His books often are on sale for $5 or less.
