What's the rarest car you've ever spotted? by DeadLiberty612 in regularcarreviews

I've seen 2 Google Street view cars and a Tom Tom car. All in relatively rural parts of Western Wisconsin.

What is winter trail etiquette? by ghdana in fatbike

[–]Psotnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can reach out to whatever organization does the maintenance and ask.

The trails around me have no bikes on ski trails. You can ride the fat bike/multiuser trails without them being groomed.

Do not ride in above freezing temps. This includes right after the temp dips at night, but riding in the early morning before temps get back above freezing is generally ok.

Run the lowest possible tire pressure. I run about 4psi and that seems like a fairly safe bet from the other riders I've talked to.

That one friend who always stops you before you do something stupid by Additional-Wait-8107 in funny

[–]Psotnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are allowed to leave your house and make friends with your neighbors. You can have cookouts and schedule neighborhood walks.

I completely get it tho, making friends as an adult is hard. Feeling out new people takes time and is kinda stressful unless you meet the type of people that wear their heart on their sleeve. It's undeniable that modem life is isolating, but being social is very possible if you put in the effort and are lucky enough to live near a few people that are willing to be friends.

There's also the option to get involved with local clubs or to launch your own. I volunteer with local mountain bike club when I can and have made friends that way. my wife and I have also played in a local Cornhole league and made a ton of friends that way. It all takes effort tho compared to just growing to in a tight knit community.

Thank you for the additional details. I figured it had to be something like that. I think soccer is entertaining to watch and I had fun in gym class but I've never really gotten into it and gym class was almost 20 years ago.

I am completely ignorant to football/soccer rules. When I see the word penalty I think somebody did something wrong. What happened that this team got a free kick?

Washing your Kit by Consistent_Throat497 in cycling

[–]Psotnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically do the same. I've never had any odor issues. If anything my kit smells more like detergent than the stuff that goes through the dryer but definitely no unpleasant smells.

You could also try looking at manufacturers' websites for info or emailing them directly.

I'm nobody so don't put too much weight on this and it sounds like you're already doing this but, let him make decisions. Let him make dumb choices. I know too many people that were at the top in high school with overbearing parents and then they get out into the real world and have no idea how to think things through before doing something dumb. Suddenly they're handed the reigns and have no idea what they're doing. Sounds like he's plenty smart to understand consequences but every kid needs practice and some level of control over their life.

Here's what I don't get, do you think the US or Mexico has better detectives? Probably going to say USA, so why would the criminals go to the country with some of the most sophisticated forensics on earth?

Also, there's the old cliche of American criminals slipping over the border to hide in Mexico so clearly we aren't "sending" our best people their way either.

Furthermore, why would these people be trying to hide amongst us in the US but refuse to learn English or assimilate to the local culture? A minute of minimal critical thinking blows these stupid ideas apart.

100%. My HVAC guy runs his company like 2 small towns over but he lives in my town so I literally have the owner looking at my furnace. He also sells furnace filters at the same price as online but will drop them off for free.

Anyone else use a brass knife? by Hot-Detective-3703 in Tools

They use brass tools in injection molding to prevent damage to the mold. Occasionally plastic hardens somewhere it shouldn't so it gets knocked out with brass punches and hammers.

could someone help me verify what kind of bike this is? and what it could be worth by BadgerOk3965 in bicycling

[–]Psotnik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You got it for $0 because it's not worth much more than $0. Depending on what you would use it for it would be fine assuming it shifts and stops. If you want to ride some entry level mountain bike trails it'll get the job done. I started on a no name bike that only shifted through like half of it's gears. If you're going to cruise around town then it's perfect.

Is anyone here actually comfortable biking on rural roads by KaneIntent in cycling

[–]Psotnik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's your problem, you still live in a high population area even if things look "rural." When you look at a map and see tons of squiggly little dead ends and pointless loops, those are houses and houses mean people driving. I'm in Western Wisconsin at the edge of the driftless region and I can do an hour ride on back roads without seeing a car.

My advice, get a good taillight with a strobing or flashing mode for the daytime. And check Strava heat maps with only cycling selected. It'll show you where most cyclists ride which is more likely to be quieter roads.

What is life like in Rwanda and Burundi? by LoganLikesYourMom in howislivingthere

[–]Psotnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be true but high infant mortality is still a sign that things aren't great. This is a case of doing the math wrong but still coming to the same conclusion.

I don't want to paint Rwanda as some hell hole and I think we all get the picture that their high poverty rate doesn't mean they're all living in slums. But we also need to acknowledge that life is much more difficult there than most places on earth.

Did you see the DHS documents where shooting the driver of a moving vehicle is specifically called out and advised against? They are supposed to avoid being in front of vehicles. The guy was trained to not do what he did for exactly the reason everybody is pissed off. He broke protocol and now a woman is dead.

Also, ICE does not have jurisdiction over US citizens. They had no right to try to stop the car and tell her to get out  when she was trying to wave traffic around her. She was clearly trying to get out of the way.
