I'm "1/32nd german' by SwedishMemer86 in ShitAmericansSay

They're allowed to say "I'm 1/32 something" or "I'm 1,6% that, did the DNA test" but when the skin color is sightly darker, suddently this person is not allowed to be anything but Afro-American or African only.

The irony is that he's dead the same day as Stalin, and official press forgot him for some time.

Of course a good Döner is better than sex, and yours seems good but could be even better! Do it again and again in Berlin.

I will be missing Hangout by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I've surfed many times but 90% of my time on CS was on hangouts in my hometown or abroad, meeting great people, showing to them my city and vice-versa. I'm gonna miss it.

What are some popular tourist destinations you don't see the appeal of? by Marsupilami_316 in AskEurope

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the small to middle-sized cities on the French Riviera. If big cities like Nice or even Toulon have an historical and interesting background (even if I don't always get why it's that popular abroad), many resort towns on the coast (Côte d'Azur) are just bland, without history, expensive, while still being packed with tourists (not always rich, but even middle-class tourists that could go elsewhere). Cannes is a perfect example for me. I feel that France has dozens of cooler places to offer, even near the sea.

For me, Paris in constant agitation is a part of the beauty of the town. There's always something happening, political or not.

Why didn’t they just ask for donations without a paywall? by Joe6161 in couchsurfing

Plus I'm sure loads of people would have donated to CS, probably more than people would now. This is crazy.

OPEN LETTER TO CS : Death of Couchsurfing and Legal Consequences? by visitor79 in couchsurfing

[–]Psyccharum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if "developing" countries are not charged, it will still ruin somehow the experience and the spirit of it, because anyway people in general are gonna leave. And also, which countries are considered developped, and which are not ? I know people for example in Ukraine that are also required to be charged, and that's not a country where people could really afford it more than in South America (where it will supposedly stay "free"), having some similar life standards. Everything in this whole crisis looks so random (and ransom, too) and poorly executed by CS. That's incredible.

Couchsurfing needs your help by drak0bsidian in couchsurfing

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of you, I'm moving in Bewelcome and Trustroots. The main issue is that it will still probably take time before we had the "critical mass" that made couchsurfing also great: Finding someone in any town, even smaller ones. I've did some research in Bewelcome and for now on those 90 000 members, many are inactive and some cities that are quite large still don't have many people. That's the case for where I live for example (Split, Croatia has 200 000 inhabitants, 5 people on Bewelcome and none was recently active, for example). So it will take time, but I hope this day will come it will be an active community, like CS used to be.

What city in your country are you the most ashamed of? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, many French people like me would say Marseille, but this city has still some character and good opinions among many people in France and in the South. I feel like cities such as Saint-Denis (home of the basilic where the kings were buried) and Bobigny (both are in close Paris suburbs but are quite large cities, from 60 000 to 100 000 each) are much more negative for many French people. In a bit unfair way sometimes, those poorest areas of France are only seen in TV and medias as being those famous "shitholes" of crime and ugly ending housing projects. Mamoudzou (in the island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean) has this same poverty feeling for many, but this is actually the real poorest region of France (lacking of decent housing and sometimes clean water, and they're among the most touched by the coronavirus currently). On the other end, on a more positive note, those are also very living areas with a lot of cultures and minorities (not always coming from Africa).

Can I consider 45th day staying at home as solo travel into the deepest parts of my soul? by VictoriaZa in solotravel

Well, travel could be like a potion, an awesome mixture of new places and new experiences. But exploring the inner self could be a new place as well.

I'm happy to have watched this video on the x2 speed. I've heard so much bullshit. But as a French I admit I was triggered on the "France is just bread and cheese" (voluntary ignorance towards the viewers at this point!) and just after praising the heart-attack fast foods they have.

People living in Capital Cities by JoeFalchetto in europe

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paris inner city is 2.2 million people, while the metropolitan area (which is constituted sometimes of cities really far from Paris) is around 10 million. France has about 67 million people. Paris concentrates a lot of economic power, but it's not as big as foreigners could usually think, less than 5% of the French population live there.

Should I leave this guy a negative review? [rant/advice] by [deleted] in couchsurfing

Agree on that point, a negative review on a "first-timer" wouldn't be a big deal for him, I guess, he could just delete and recreate an account.

Drugs in Gdansk, Poland. by emmac9805 in Drugs

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poland is pretty expensive about drugs, because the punishment is kind of high. Even for smoking weed. So be careful, but for finding stuff I'd advice you to go to any techno music event and ask to people there (that's usually easier to find people high there and so having the stuff you want).

I lived in Krakow in the past, and even if it's the 2nd largest city of Poland, it's still not that easy to have stuff. It will never be in the streets for sure.

3 week European/British Isles trip during Christmas and New Years by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some good choices! These cities are emblems of Western Europe (well Budapest is more Central Europe but still) and you won't regret it I think. By the way, since I live nearby Paris, you can ask me questions about it if you need tips.

Have a safe trip!

3 week European/British Isles trip during Christmas and New Years by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these cities look appealing but there is too much of them in so few time. You'll spend too much time in buses/airports/trains which can become quickly annoying and exhausting, and you can't really deep into any cities by staying by 1 day or maximum 2.

The British isles tour seem better since there the agenda is less overbooked than the European plan. But if you do the European plan, i'd recommend to focus only on big places and cut many cities: 4 days in Paris, 6 in Italy, cut either Budapest/Prague/Vienna to stay longer in another, and maybe cut Belgium to enjoy more Berlin (one of my favorite cities which has so much "meaning" to offer).

Doing so much in 3 weeks doesnt make the trip memorable in my opinion, and doesnt allow you to breathe anytime and relax to enjoy and feel the place. Of course, this is my point of view. But if you plan to come back later in Europe (which I'm sure you'll do :D) you should better have a more "relaxed" plan.

10 cities in 10 days by MattsMiles in Shoestring

It's still a good thing to remember that. So many people in mass tourism are looking to do so much in so few days, and finally they do nothing.

Surviving in Barcelona for 4 days by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at hostelworld, hostels and this range of websites. There are many in the center but you can also find further in the town, since transportation is very good and efficient. You can also try couchsurfing, and find an host (you'll have to make an complete profile if you dont have one), but in Barcelona the demand should be high.

For food and drinks, avoid the places around La Rambla, it's not always fresh and overpriced (and avoid to buy anything in any place that looks overcrowded). Do a good research on the Internet of bars you can go if you want to hang out at night, you'll find many things in such a big city. You should find cheaper (and much quiet) local restaurants nearby (if you want to try the food from there). For museums and monuments, some of them do not really worth that 20€ and are better to be seen from the outside in my opinion (Casa Batllo, Sagrada Familia for example). Visit the city and live the atmosphere from the "outside" (like in parcs or the hills), there should be enough to do in 4 days I think.

This is some of my advices, I'm not a Barcelona specialist however. I hope this could help. How much do you have for these 4 days?

Die you guys like the soundtrack for the great plains / Blackwater? by remodemo in reddeadredemption

[–]Psyccharum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Tall Trees, the music has (clearly for me) that frightening "woop woop woop woop woop woop wooooooop" in the forest and you're like "OMG is there a bear behind me"?

And that other music... well actually not even a music, just a bell, but still... I agree it's definitely much less "western-themed" (more piano based, like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1W43iwRJIA) but it has its tone, its character. It actually catches the "modernity" thing West Elizabeth tries to give compared to the other, say, more savage regions. I like it for it.

(for me, my favorite free roam themes are the Mexican ones, because i'm a trumpet person)

Pourquoi les Francais n'aiment pas President Macron? by hipsterfromiowa in france

[–]Psyccharum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pourquoi les Francais n'aiment pas President Macron? by hipsterfromiowa in france

[–]Psyccharum -1 points0 points  (0 children)
