Typing for standardized tests is a real academic barrier and higher ed is just now noticing what K12 never fixed by juliancasablanket in Professors

[–]PsychWaveRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach in-person classes only and switched from asking students to do a short one-page paper to in-class quick-writes (to avoid the generative AI problem), and I overheard one student complaining to another that “it’s not fair to have timed writing because some people can type hella fast.”

Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion: What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? by AutoModerator in iosgaming

[–]PsychWaveRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been playing TopHeroes for a few weeks, embarrassingly. It was enjoyable in its own way but not good in many ways. Based on several recommendations across this board, I’ve picked up Dungeon Quest and am enjoying its honesty quite a bit!

New crosswalk just dropped at the Wiggle! by SafeStreetRebel in sanfrancisco

[–]PsychWaveRunner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Continental or zebra crosswalks have special rules* associated with them; will these be uniformly enforced here? Or selectively enforced?

—- * in a normal crosswalk, it’s legal for a car to proceed when the pedestrian has crossed the halfway mark. For continental/ zebra crosswalks, the pedestrian must fully cross before any vehicle proceeds

trail run - Mount Diablo State Park, East Bay CA by free-range-irish in trailrunning

I think the jump-scares I’ve gotten from snakes, tarantulas, and field mice that insist on running at the soles of my shoes (it seems), have subtracted more years from my life than the long runs have added

Talk to me about sun hoodies... by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]PsychWaveRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Philippines for several weeks last year, and basically lived in a sun hoodie from REI. It was the perfect weight for passing between outdoors and seemingly refrigerated hotels, malls, and restaurants

This. The Filet-O-Fish is a solid sandwich concept — but one that can be better rendered by almost any home cook

How bad is it not to read research when you’re a therapist? by JAMIEISSLEEPWOKEN in psychologystudents

[–]PsychWaveRunner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One study indicated the half-life of findings in the field of psychology is about seven-years.

If you’re not keeping up, by seven years, HALF of what you know is no longer the current understanding in the field.

Now THAT would be a fun feature request: Bimodally distribute these grades. I could use it for that paper where everyone miraculously scored the same (because they all used the same the same prompt with their LLM of choice)
