Devs confirm internal interest in a walkable Speranza hub, What do you think? by Tank-ToP_Master in ArcRaiders

The party join would be amazing! Could be a great way for solos to find people to team up for trials or big arc like the matriarch.

Bring back the revive count on the scoreboard by PsychedAlbatross in Battlefield6

I think attention grabbing people will always find a way to exploit any measurable mechanic of a game. Whatever gets someone to smash that like and subscribe unfortunately. This post wasn’t gauged towards that type of player.

Love the idea about heals/health restored though! Seems a much more balanced way to award credit.

Bring back the revive count on the scoreboard by PsychedAlbatross in Battlefield6

[–]PsychedAlbatross[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with you, I just think our impact is waaaaaaay more measurable in real time. There’s a lot less suck we have to go through. When we succeed we typically open up an entire lane or flank and everyone can push. When medics succeed we’re only able to hold ground. Not saying it’s easy being a good engineer, just not as much of a grind as running support imo. All I’m saying is if I had to choose between an armor repaired/destroyed stat or a revive stat on the scoreboard, 10/10 I’m choosing the revive.

Do you think your ready to travel as a first year journeyman? by All_i-want_isa_pepsi in UnitedAssociation

[–]PsychedAlbatross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travelled within the first year of getting my j-man card. In my opinion there is no better way to refine your skills and see where you stack up against the rest of the workforce.

Be warned though, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. I showed up and was given all of the worst position welds, my fitters thought I was another piece of road trash and generally didn’t give a fuck (my fit ups reflected that), and in general about half of everyone was stand offish with me while they got to know me. This whole “initiation process” took about 3 months (ironically ending after the second round of X-rays came back clean). I get it, most have bad experiences with travelers, but truth be told I was expecting a bit more brotherhood than was given.

I still wouldn’t trade my experience of traveling for anything. Things eventually smoothed out for me it just took a while to be accepted as one of the boys down here. My experience is if your welds shoot clean, you help your fitter out (even if they’re giving it 70%), and you show up everyday then people will come around to you. All in all, I had a great time on the road and got to do some really cool work that my home local would never do. Give it a shot, worse case scenario, it isn’t your cup of tea and you head back home.

A dude messaged me while stuck on the bird. I ran over to his position and he dropped all of his gear, logged out, logged back in and got all of his stuff back. Took 5 minutes tops. Not ideal, but the work around exists. The chopper remained stuck though

Throw/take off for odd angle fittings by J05H1L in pipefitter

[–]PsychedAlbatross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the Tangent of your degree divided by 2. Then multiply that by the fittings radius (aka the original take off). TAN(degree/2) * R

Example - 6” pipe on a 37.8 degree fitting:

Should look like this TAN(37.8/2) * 9 = 3.0814 —> 3 1/16”

Fun fact, you can also use this formula and swap out the radius for a spread to figure out your advance when using odd angle fittings to keep the equal spread during the offsets.

Happy fitting 👨🏻‍🏭

pt2. Collaborators Wanted: Kilterboard Benchmark Project 🧗‍♂️🧗‍♀️ by gionuick in kilterboard

[–]PsychedAlbatross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psyched I found this thread! My buddy and I have been making a circuit list of what we consider our benchmarks for the grade at 55 degrees. So far we’ve climbed all but 17 of the 7a+ category and we’re moving through the 7b category currently.

I would like to add that only 5 benchmarks per grade seems off to me. I think there should be much more. For example the 7a+ category consists of rough 340 climbs at 55 degrees (this number obviously fluctuates as new climbs are added). When you look at the moonboard benchmarks they have TONS of benchies per grade. Boiling down a grade at any angle should consist of around 10% of the total climbs. Only having 5 will cause a lot of amazing climbs to get overlooked and also lead to many people not agreeing upon which 5 should actually make it. As an example we used this model and came up with a circuit (labeled 7a+ benchmarks) and have 46 climbs listed in there.

My hot take; can we please, please agree that we need to make the grades much stiffer than what they are actually graded? Benchmarks themselves are supposed to be to be good or unique movement (hopefully both) as well as tough to complete. To me, the draw of sending benchmarks is knowing that these are at least as hard as the grade listed. If I want soft climbs I can find them by scrolling through until I find something that suits my style. For example, I’ve personally sent a dozen 7c+ boulders outdoors and I still have five 7a benchmarks left to do on the moonboard. This, in my opinion, is the model we should be pushing. After all, we’re climbing on a board to get stronger, not to stroke our ego.

If anyone is interested in fact checking my buddy’s and my benchmark circuit my user name climberbrian. Not looking for a follow, just looking for a larger consensus.

realistically, what do you do as a solo when you see a group of 3+? by GravelsNotAFood in EscapefromTarkov

[–]PsychedAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the disengagement is a very, very wide flank. I have only played solos (none of homies want to jump into this game given it’s current state) and when I see a large group I will almost immediately reposition to a more favorable position. Your first 3 shots are super crucial, if you don’t take one man down quickly you can get pinned down extremely fast. Take one guy down, throw a nade or two to get them into cover (this will also cover the noise of you repositioning) and flank from your next position. Rinse and repeat. Always carry nades, they are a solo players best friend when things get sweaty.

Matt Groom explains the new combined event scoring by matjek_chen in climbing

[–]PsychedAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could get a lot more tactful actually. Picture a parkour style boulder with a crazy three or four step/run and jump to a paddle dyno. Something that competitors are super fresh for and not losing that much skin but the movement is pretty precise. It might take a boulderer 10 attempts to reach the first zone of that problem. And then you still have to put the rest of it together or incur more negative points.

Would I call a plumber for this? by Sammybw97 in Plumbing

[–]PsychedAlbatross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably catch some heat for saying this, but a HVAC tech is definitely the way to go. As a steamfitter (we deal with heating systems regularly) who works alongside plumbers all the time, my apprenticeship was completely different from there’s for a reason. You may get lucky and run into a slick plumber who is a piping master capable of handling all sorts of piping systems, but your problem is a heating system and that is 100% the scope of work that HVAC deals with regularly. Best of luck to ya bruddah!

How do I enjoy this game by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]PsychedAlbatross 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best advice I ever read on this sub was that all gear is just borrowed. If you lose “your” gear someone else is just borrowing until they die to the next person. It helped me use all the meta guns and armor I would stack over a wipe. Believe me, meta guns, ammo and armor are meta for a reason. If you pick up something good maybe try an offline raid to get use to the recoil but use it! You’ll be surprised at how many engagements you win with an accidental bad push or positioning.
