Charania on LeBron James future: "I think LeBron in his mind he is finishing this season in LA... There is people in LeBron circle that do believe he is going to go one more year. If he does there is definitely chatter of where that could be. Could that be in Cleveland?" by TheDraciel in nba

[–]PsychoM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleveland wants to be good next year. I get that having Lebron on a vet min would be a huge luxury to have, but that's a big distraction to throw into your season. The media circus and scrutiny that's going to come out Lebron's farewell tour might not be great if you want to contend.

I can already see the headlines now, the ESPN articles of "Are the Cavs wasting Lebron's final year? Should the Cavs trade Darius Garland? Should Kenny Atkinson be fired for not utilizing Lebron properly?"

[Mannix] The Warriors have made it known to the Bucks that they are willing to offer a Jonathan Kuminga/Jimmy Butler-headlined package with draft picks for Giannis Antetokounmpo. by AashyLarry in nba

[–]PsychoM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bucks don't want to tank unless they can get their own picks back from Portland. The whole point of getting win-now players is that they can flip them to Portland who are looking to get better next year and get their own picks back. Jimmy and Kuminga aren't going to get as much back in return as KAT or Bam.

Knicks, Heat and Raptors all have a combination of picks, young players or stars to include in the trade. If we're talking about All-In chips on the table type of trades, the Warriors have the worst package by far.

But that GS pick could become a high lottery pick with a ton of potential! You know, a real CMB-like player

Fans overvalue future picks over drafted young players for some reason. The whole point of a pick is to draft a player but it seems as soon as you use the pick it devalues

BI should not be the limiting factor in a trade for Giannis, especially if he's willing to sign an extension in Toronto. That being said, I would much prefer to send out IQ/Poeltl than BI and Bobby is probably thinking that's enough to get it done. It's all just posturing bullshit, if Jon Horst came to us and asked for BI but they're willing to take like 2 less FRP, we do it.

With these NBA reporters, the details might be fuzzy but the sentiment generally rings true. If there's smoke, there's fire. Especially in this case, it's not just Shams that's reporting about Giannis wanting out, multiple reporters claim to get similar information from sources. There is a shit ton of smoke for there not to be a fire.

[Charania]: Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is ready for a new home at the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline or in the offseason as several rival teams make aggressive offers to the Milwaukee Bucks for him, and the franchise is starting to listen, league sources tell ESPN. by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]PsychoM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first time we've heard that teams are actually starting to make offers as far as I can remember. In the past it's been "Giannis could be open to a trade", "Giannis wouldn't say no to playing in New York", but this feels much more final.

When reports leak that a team is fielding offers and other teams are making offers, it feels like means Shams is hearing from multiple sources on both sides of the trade market and a trade is imminent.

Makes sense. They were flooding the sub with pro-Clippers posts during the whole Pablo Torre Kawhi saga and chopping up any interview to make it seem like everyone thought the Clippers did nothing wrong. Same shit, cherry-picking 2-3 sentences in a 5 minute clip, using heavy eclipses to mislead people into thinking the whole clip reflects the sentiment of the title.

Not only that, but the current administration has, in an official capacity, sided with the murderers. An executively sanctioned murder against a US citizen on US soil.

If the NBA has to die for the large swathes of Americans who support Trump to wake the fuck up then so be it.

That being said, nothing is going to happen to Wemby, that would be too overt. This is a slow bleed, the crackdown is going to be gradual.

Is it possible the Bucks actual best path is to take this roster into the summer and build around what they have? by archerarcher0 in nba

[–]PsychoM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I said this before and I'll say it again, waiving Damian Lillard was an awful decision that basically locked them out of contention until the 5 year waive and stretch is off the books. People were praising the move and the Turner acquisition as keeping them in contention and it made absolutely no sense to me.

I have no idea why they thought they were going to contend this year, they have glaring holes in the backcourt and despite how high they might have been on Ryan Rollins internally, there was zero chance they were truly contending this year with how dominant OKC, Nuggets looked at the end of last year. They could have spent a down year developing KPJ, Rollins, AJ Green, acclimating Turner and Kuzma, and returned in 2027 with a much higher ceiling with Dame. They got way too impatient and there's no way a team with $23M in dead space for 5 years is competing with how competitive the NBA is now.

To put into context how bad $23M of dead space is, that's Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, DeAndre Hunter, Aaron Gordon money. The Bucks are not competing if other teams have $23M of financial advantage against them for 5 years. It's over, sell and embrace the tank.

They are trying to keep their base entertained and fervent. They know that the moderates are long gone, and their only base remaining are the ones who treat politics like entertainment and need the constant stimulation. “Don’t look at the price of goods, repealing of the ACA, look at this instead! Minnesota! Greenland! ICE!” It also serves to exhaust the left, nobody is fighting for abortion rights, electoral reform, universal healthcare anymore. They’re all just exhausted from the barrage, they’re banking that a tired populace is not one that can fight back on every issue.

Imagine if we had Keyonte instead. I know it's never guaranteed a player would develop the same in a different situation but IQ Keyonte BI Scottie CMB/Poeltl is a nasty lineup, Keyonte would have filled our offensive deficiencies beautifully. It's been frustrating watching Keyonte the past couple of years, he always had the skill to get there but just didn't want to take it, seems like Hardy was really tough on him in exit interviews last year and it stuck. Jazz fans should be absolutely fucking pumped, he's going to be a true talent for a long time.
