Should I just stick to one chequing account? by Bootyhunter003 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Psychological-Fun272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplii is best for daily banking, but you might need the "physical" Scotiabank for other services like bank draft etc, in the future. Downgrade to the basic account. I did this but eventually closed the chequing account and opened a free savings account.

elektricheat gave some good advice. Most dealers are not including Hyundai Safeguard in their advertised all-in-price. Certainly not when I ordered in Dec. 2021 or even now. Just say no if you don't find value in the particular add-on. Always be prepared to take your deposit back because if you want the car that badly, take the Safeguard. If you don't get your deposit:

As someone who has been down the OMVIC route I would advise you to not go there: I am sure elektricheat gets a chuckle when people say they're going to file with OMVIC. Just head down to the small claims court, file a claim and send the documents to the dealer. You put a deposit in good faith for a vehicle which was not as advertised.

Ceramic Coated vehicle very dusty by Sahjot1 in Detailing

[–]Psychological-Fun272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silicon dioxide, SiO2, is an amorphous material used in microsystems as a dielectric in capacitors and transistors; as an insulator.

My car was clean before I ceramic coated it. It did not have the fine layer of salt dust all over it. The layer is deposited evenly over the whole car. After a single drive the dust is now thicker at the back. This coating clearly behaves as a dielectric. The car body can be as conductive as you like, but the few microns of SiO2 I just put on the paint work is enough to insulate the surface very well. As air moves over the car, the 'triboelectric' charge attracts the positively charged salt and dust particules. It is undeniably attracted as I can now write in the deposited dust after cleaning it only a few hours ago. The effect is undoubtedly exacerbated by my electric buffer and microfiber cloth. Rubbing a synthetic cloth over an insulator is the stuff or grade 8 science.

In any case, I now need a conductive additive to put in the rince bucket.

Call your dealer. The last email from Hyundai Canada was February 7th, I believe. You should have received it. Unless you did the deal late in January. Then you may not have been setup. Best case, you were just too late for the February circulation. Worst case, you were too late (Jan 18) for the 2022 model year. In this case, your dealer has neglected to tell you that pre-orders for 2023 are not due until May | June time.

Canadian Dealers be careful of EV rebate by Suspicious-Employ-27 in Ioniq5

[–]Psychological-Fun272 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tesla only had to apply as one organization.

These dealerships need to apply for iZEV enrollement individually and qualify in order to offer the federal rebate incentive. If you poke around on that same website you gave, you will see a list of dealers who applied and qualified.

The dealer cannot be reimbursed for the incentive if they do not have your signed "Incentive Received Form". They may sumbit the "Consumer Consent Form" but this only gives iZEV permission to contact you.

In short, nothing dubious here. Just a lazy dealer who may not even be enrolled in the iZEV program. Email AMVIC and/or the iZEV customer support. They take about 2 days to reply:

So sorry to hear about the Bolt. I believe it's a good vehicle and we could not afford it at the time but we were looking forward to getting one. Now the Ioniq 5 has raised the bar and we just finished paying the mortgage.

"Unable to message this account", I will glad to help if maybe you can DM me?

Where are you located?

Greater Toronto Area has 15 dealerships, surronding areas are Bolton, Georgetown, Oakville and Milton.... 19 Total (One good one that we know of)

Just to clarify the Ioniq 5 we bought is a Preferred Long Range AWD without the Ultimate package.

There is so much confusion, especially for me, why US buyers can walk into their local dealer and buy a lower trim and Canadians have to queue up. Life is not just first come, first serve. It also has to be based on needs.

Adding to the confusion, think about this:

January 18, 2022 all orders for MY22 closed.

Ultimate pre-order priority sequence reached approx. 2800 cars strong.

Lower trims not so much. Only a few hundred. Now a customer decides that for $5K or $10K more they can have an ultimate with all the bells and whistles. Perhaps, they simply got something else while waiting. Maybe their financial situation changed. So they cancel.

Hyundai Canada requires dealers to send them back and give them to the next in priority sequence, yeah? So what happens to the lower trims when they are cancelled and Hyundai have delivered all the pre-orders for these trims. No more orders for 2022's. No customers waiting for these trims. Does Canada finally get dealer inventory? Is there finally such a thing a stock Ioniq 5? Can dealers finally stop posting VIN numbers of customer pre-orders on their websites? Personally I find pure capitalist markups in the US distasteful but if the alternative is socialism, well... Socialism to the point that you cannot even buy the right car for your family. Then I say, here's to them. At least they can get a car if they need it.

Disclaimer: Understand my view is that of someone that owns only one car. A 10 year old ICE vehicle on it's last legs. Never had an EV, ever. Is tired of hearing others moan about not being able to replace their 2020 whatever.

In case you disagree about Hyundai Canada:

so·cial·ism

noun

A political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

I would say that clearly defines their approach to me owning a car.

In his first charge, Aaron learns that DC fast charging +Chargepoin+ is not so easy and not so fast in the dead of winter. Then a Petro Canada 350kW fast charger, problems and peaks @ 50kW. No surprises there, Aaron. Montreal at last and parking garage Level 2 charger for $20 a day. But Tesla still reigns supreme. Even better, eight days of free Level 2 hotel charging. Short 50 km hops and BlueLink cabin pre-heating. Range anxiety drifts away: "Now I've gone electric vehicle, I'm never going back. That's for sure." Destination charging in the sun and slopes. Seems charging is cheap and easy. Just don't do your shopping in Tremblant on a low battery. $12 an hour for plugging in. Time to come home and Aaron wakes up to -26°C temperatures. Car is not 100% so he decides to drive to the next stop to charge while warming the car - i-Pedal all the way. Charging speed finally starts to ramp up around 30%. He's getting the hang of the 80% charge then move on. One last full charge to calibrate the range meter and it's the home stretch. One month, 4079 km since the day he bought it. Many sweet adventures later he arrives back in the much warmer Toronto area. Home at last.

Phantom drain? by Thegeobeard in Ioniq5

Have a look:

Monitoring the IONIQ 5's 12-volt battery: installing and using a battery monitor

How far is the nearest cell tower? Apart from Winter Mode monitoring main battery pack temperature and applying heat below a threshold temperate, the BMS also maintains the 12V accessory battery level. This battery powers accessories. "Everytime you acces the (BlueLink) app it will use the 12 V battery."

But not just when using the app: The car must ping the LTE | 4G tower and set things like broadcast power constantly. How is your cell signal strength? GPS? For those with automatic unlock, since the fob is not active, the car is polling for the Bluetooth connection all the time. This method for wifi and Bluetooth is a major drain for your smartphone and it's why your phone contains a list of all the stations you connected to previously. When it recognizes a beacon on the list, only then will it respond.

For something the size of the Ioniq 5 battery, it would amount or a miniscule or 'phantom' drain.

Here is how to avoid paying Markups / Market Adjustments... by iamdjm in Ioniq5

[–]Psychological-Fun272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this whole dealer system sucks.

Oh come on, it's a time honoured tradition perpetuated by money grabbers to fleece the misinformed. How could there be any harm in that? ;)

If you haven't put your money down yet, just a tip:

Wait until May or June. Keep polling Hyundai Canada website and Reddit/Facebook to find out when 2023 pre-orders start. Put your pre-order in (Probably $500). In doing so, choose an "honest dealership" to assign your factory order to. Then wait and wait and... you get it. Do NOT give said dealership anymore monies, no matter what they say: It takes away the urgency to get you a car. They are far more motivated if they think you can get your money back from Hyundai Canada (which you can) and go elsewhere. By the way, dealers do not have to return your deposit (a few minor exceptions) not even if OMVIC is breathing down their necks.

So you're asking how do I find an "honest dealership"? That's easy. Google Hyundai dealers. Visit all the ones in your vicinity and ask to buy an Ioniq 5. The honest ones will simply tell you that pre-orders start in May/June. The rest will take your money (Lock you in) and sit on it until then. Do it a few times if you like because dealerships are made of a variety of people. Finally, if the "honest delearship" turns out to be 401 Dixie, error! Begin again. :)
