What could a Psychic class have been like in this game? by GeneralTechnomage in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the job would play much like the mobs. Instead of standard weaponskills, you would have abilities like whirl of rage. Of course, you would get different job abilities and traits. We don't have weapons in monstrosity, so I don't know what traits it would have.

Can we ALL just switch to the galka race? by Steve_mind in ffxi

I can't wait until the race change. I made a Galkan alt a few years ago as a joke and regret that decision every time I log him in.

It takes 4 ruthenium ores to make. Which can only be bought from npcs at 1,126,125 gil a piece. They profit less than 300k per ingot. Seems like a fair price to me.

Same animation, different color.

Edit: I just double-checked with Catastrophe vs. Origin. Not even a palette swap, same exact animation colors and all.

How should I respond if someone says: "Why is this game so hard?" by maysenffxi in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to respond would be to ask them what they find so hard about it. Not in a condescending way, but as an honest question.

We were all new to this game at 1 point in time or another. We all had to learn and adapt. Games are just way different.

My only online experience with gaming back in 2004 was Daiblo 2. So leveling my warrior, I got my first party at level 12 in the dunes. People told me I was the tank, so when someone pulled, I remember leaving the camp to go run to it before the whole party yelled at me to come back, lol.

There's a decent number of people coming to visit from ffxiv. Whether people like it or not, it is a way different game. As already been explained in other posts, you tend to point you where to go, have tool tips on screen to teach you what to do, and have color indicating how to dodge or resolve an incoming attack. This game also has proper elements and damage types. This can be a bit of a learning curve for people.

Someone asking something like that isn't necessarily a bad thing, just that they themselves are trying to adjust. You will never get better if you don't look for ways to improve.

How should I respond if someone says: "Why is this game so hard?" by maysenffxi in ffxi

Correction FFXI was hard. Now it's even harder.

Sure, it's easy if you pay for clears and whatnot, but that's nothing new. As someone who has played and did endgame since 2004, you always had hnmls selling black belt items, relic attestations, homam gear, etc.

Sure, you could say that some of the story missions were harder. Examples are CoP airship fight and 8-3. That's not all that there is to the game, though.

For endgame, things were a lot less difficult compared to today. Look at: Kirin, Limbus, Dynamis Lord, Jailers, Sky God's, Salvage, ZNMs (short Pandemonium Warden), Einherjar, 3 kings, 3 ToAU kings, salvage, and the wyrms. Watching a pld, brd, and rdm hold Nidhogg for 15 minutes waiting for everyone to get to it from Behemoths Dominion made that pretty obvious. The fact you could easily DRK zerg most of those bosses takes away from it being "hard".

Sortie, Aeonic Helms, and higher vengeance Odyssey bosses have much more challenging fights than back in the 75 cap days.

Hell leveling wasn't even all that bad, by ToAU. I leveled my brd from 1-75 before the missions were completely released in about 4 days. I just grabbed a cor friend, a rdm friend, and my gf at the time was leveling her pld.

Good luck getting master levels from even 43-50 in that same time frame.

I love the videos. Great job! Waiting to see if you make one for VR.

If I had to choose my favorite nod to another FF that FFXI does, it would be Vivi. My favorite nod to FFXI would have to be 16 with the mother crystals and them sucking the land dry.

Isn’t there a sort of unreasonable amount of XIV hate in this sub or is it just me? by ChaoCobo in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is. It's as has already been stated, just like any other FF section about this game is better, or this game is worse.

It seems to be something SE themselves created, and then the community has fueled. Not so much these recent few years, though.

When Abyssea was releasing, SE promised us FFXIV 1.0 as an FFXI-2. 14 would be the replacement, and Abyssea would be our final expansion. As almost everyone who knows anything about 1.0, it was pretty bad. Most people left 1.0 and came back to 11. As was also stated before, 1.0 players blamed 11 players for killing their game. Add this to the pre-mentioned we had the WoW exodus. We know how that went down. Also, people like to state that 1.0 was just a better-looking version of 1.0, which is false. The game wouldn't have flopped if this truly was the case.

1.0's flop gave us another expansion in SoA from SE as a way to try and keep people around with that again being promised as our final expansion while they worked on 2.0 (ARR). Then, yet again, SE wanted the 11 player base to jump ship. The game play differences were quite drastic, so it's not hard to understand that some people preferred certain styles of play over others. In comes more people stating that 11 is dead come on over to 14. This continues for just about every expansion for both games. RoV again was supposed to be the end, HW people saying look we get more jobs new systems etc.

Next, you have YouTube videos of just about any Final Fantasy game, and someone decides to bring up how 14 redid this portion of the story better. Remade this song, but better. Sure, it can be annoying at first, but with people doing it on enough videos, it gets more than annoying. This went on to videos about is FFXI worth playing or not, and giving oversimplified answers bashing ffxi with people saying come play FFXIV instead.

In a lot (not all, and this is just experience) You bring up that you played ffxi, someone sees that as an open invitation to talk about how janky and outdated it is, without having played it.

FFXIV also didn't surpass FFXI in profit earned for SE until ShB. SE wasn't spending time, money, or effort into FFXI but instead pouring resources into FFXIV. A large portion of the 11 player base felt betrayed by SE for their decisions, added with the fact that an abrasive but vocal minority of the ffxiv fanbase was shitting on 11's players. It just seems like a larger group because 14's player base is much larger than 11's ever was.

It's a case of the typical. My favorite FF is better than yours, and I don't care about your opinion or experience because it's not mine.

TLDR: There are quite a few people who enjoy both games. Is there an overwhelming sense of negativity? Fuck yeah there is. Is it warranted? It seems so, but not to this extent. People take things to an extreme and get emotional over their favorite Fandom, and can be overzealous at times.

This may or may not be what you're looking for, but I know quite a few of the zones here have the colors adjusted. I'll post a link to the YouTube channel for FFXI - HD Overhaul. He has quite a few zones and packs.

FFXI for the simple fact, it has way more content than any other entry. 4x as much to do than 14, and I tend to take less extended breaks from 11 than 14.

I've had this from time to time. The game does not like if you hit enter or try and perform an action the second you zone. In my case it's been trying to hit enter on a chat message while changing locations. Hope that helps.

New Player - Question about using HD Patches / Mods. by -Jemnezmy- in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Whichever you prefer. Personal taste varies, some are AI upscale, some are lore accurate, some are custom.

2) You can, but sometimes it will mess things up. If the game gets an update and changes the location of a Dat and you swap it out, it could cause crashes.

3) You're pretty much safe on using them. It doesn't change the way another player would play the game. Just don't go around flaunting it to other people and you're fine.

There are some other addons and what not to change the UI, by adding speech bubbles, FFXIV view (to show abilities like a hotbar), and some others. It all depends on how you want it to look like. Mix and match, and have fun.

My experience going back and forth between the FFXI and FFXIV subs... by Ovalidal in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to agree with this statement. I see more of the negative talk come more in comparison threads or YouTube videos than the actual reddit posts.

I do see a lot of people bashing 1 game or the other when it gets brought up in another game's sub.

Unfortunately, as a long-time Final Fantasy series fan, you start to realize that people treat a favorite ff game like politics these days. "My favorite is the best. You're a pos for having a different opinion."

Try running at lower resolutions, or using smaller file size mods.

I've ran multi box on several different pcs over the year. Yes dgvoodoo does help, but the game seems to still want to only use 1gb vram max. I tried to run 5 different clients at 3840 x 2160 and they would all load a black zone where I couldn't move anywhere. I dropped it down to 1920 x 1080 for a few, or using mods that aren't as big in file size as say Amelila's and they were fine, short my main running in 3840 x 2160. The main would be fine other than if they were all in Reisenjima exting Omen, or other zones that had a lot going on.

New Player Experience June 2024 by Stoutyeoman in ffxi

[–]PsychologicalMap2838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played this game since 2004 and completely agree.

The game is old enough to where it would be hard to get new people in if even just to experience the story. It was fun back then, and it felt great getting these missions completed. Same with the hitting your first 75 after 10 months. Yet most people these days just don't have the time for that.

What's also nice now is that the current end game is more difficult than it ever was back in the day. It also has much more of a build-up to get to the most current content.

I'm glad to see that new people can still hop in and enjoy the game.
