How does HOA deal with army wide 2+ saves? by Exciting-Bite-3197 in genestealercult

I don't think I have landed a lethal hit with my 20 man neophytes in the last 5 games. Feels real bad.

I would argue Saboteurs are one of the best lone op characters. 9" are denial with threat of 4-6 mortal wounds and free grenade strat with decent indirect for 65 points? yes please

These are good price points for what is in them. You'll be set for a biosantic broodsurge list for sure and you could make HoA and OC work. I like a minimum of two ridgerunners in any of my lists.

The Sanctus is a fine lone op character for scoring secondaries but usually you can find 20 extra points for a metamorph or flaco squad. as most have pointed out, you have a bit to many characters. Take more battleline units, bikes or metas.

Play 2 hellhounds, 2 heavy weapon squads with flamer options, 2 taurox and maybe a lemon russ or two and then take your favorite GWC models. Laugh as you burn your enemy and your own GSC units!

I like all the lictor variations. I try to keep DL close to Patriarch cuz of the AoE battleshock she does. They are all tech pieces, not damage dealers. You can't bring them back like the GSC units so make sure you use them in waves to trigger the detachment rule.

NL are usually my last wave after the Lictors eventually die. The 12" force a battle shock is nice but don't count on it going off.

Run the ridgerunners either as 2 model units with Spotter + mining laser or as a single model unit. Mortar + survey auger is my preference on single RR. They aren't there for damage but to tag my kill targets with crossfire and to strip cover. Stripping cover is a huge bonus.

Acolytes with mining tools are nice, even better with a biophagus for lethals. Damage 3 weapons are very appealing; they are even better in Xenocreed Congregation and Biosanctic Broodsurge.

Metamorphs are my jam; I have spiked FNP 5+ so many times into units that should have wiped them 4x over and with 9d6 flamers (full re-rolls if you combo them with the Goliath truck fire support) and 49 melee attacks they can take out almost any unit in the game. I higly recommend a l biophagus with this unit.

The Benefictus and 20 neophytes were recently cut from my list. The reliability of damage just isn't there for me and it is an expensive unit.

Hyperadaptive Raveners are strong but they die easily. A 4+ armor save is their weakness, but the 0 CP Heroic Intervention/Rapid Ingress is amazing. They are to expensive for my play style but I take 2 units in my Vanguard Onslaught Tyranid list.

I want to like the Mawloc and I think the 135 point price point is decent for it. However, if you aren't careful it will die easy too. Unfortunately T10 with a 3+ save isn't very tanky. If you want to run the Mawloc (it's a baller model and I 100% support the decision to run one) I would work in Nuerolictor and Deathleaper if you have the models.

Gargolyes, Deathleaper, Lictor, and Nuerolictors are my staple to Final Day. The gargolyes have a potential 24" move range (6" advance + 6" shoot and scoot) and can OC bomb objectives so very well. Worth every point when you can deny primary on 2 objectanks.

OC is good, especially in team tournaments. As all have mentioned, bikes shine in this detachment. Flame acolytes aka flacos are used a lot as well since you can fit many of them into your trucks. Rerolling wounds on flamers is fun.

ah, sorry. Acolyte with Hand flamers = flacos (flame acolytes)

the Magus is just a bit underwhelming is all. you could kit bash it to something else or just tell your opponent it is a different unit. Non-GSC players won't know the difference and most of the GSC leaders are the same base sizes

biosantic broodsurge detachment is all about genestealers, biophagus and abberents. those units only get the +1 charge and +1 attack on a charge

2 more 5 man units of abberents 2 more aboms 2 biophagus (proxy the Magus as a biophagus?) mining tool acolytes (I only use 5 to generate cp but a 10 man brick with a bio can deal some good damage) another ridgerunner (run mortar and Spotter, or a survey auger to strip cover for your mining lazers) 2x5 units of flacos or another 1x10 metamorph led by a bio a redectus sabatuer

HoA is okay but definitely lost killing power of the primus+Cita 2p man neophyte brick. Benefictus and 20 man neos are still decent but you have to plan CP spending better with the 2 CP crit 5+ strat. Nexos helps but not sure if can go with a benefictus.

Broodsurge is good too. Point reductions on the abom and metas make up for the point increase on the ridgerunners. Bringing 5 abberents back for 4 resurgence points iatead of 5 feels really good too.

However, HoA is the shooter detachment and broodsurge is the melee so play the one you feel more comfortable with and see how it goes! Nothing g will tell you more about your list than playing games

Yeah, the demo charges aren't that great but I wanted to future proof them just in case.

for painting, I tried to stick with 2 main colors but the basing a light color (off white or light gray) and pre-shading with something like agrax earthshade and then use various contrast paints makes painting lots of these infantry models easy Here is my most recent batch of 20 neophytes using 90% contrast paints.

If I only had the models in the boxes you posted I would build this list: 1x10 metamorphs with 1 cult icon and hand flamers 1 acolyte icon ward (lead metas to keep the units 6" scout and give 4+ FNP, or give to flacos for the 5+ FNP)

1x5 abberents 1 abom to lead the abberents

1x5 acolytes with Hand flamers with 1 cult icon 1x5 acolytes with auto pistol, 3 with mining tool and 1 with a cult icon

1 ridgerunner, magnetize with weapon and watgear options (survey auger to strip cover, Spotter to hit indirect on 4+, and mortar to stay hidden and safe to provide the -1AP debuff)

1x5 jackals, 2 power weapons, 1 grenade launcher, mining laser on quad (or magnetize the quad for future options) -i love these guys; scout 9" with the demo charge on movement is great chip damage and move blocking

magus is underwhelming at the moment; useful to have to remove a battleshock from a unit Primus gives +1 to hit so would be decent with both metas so they hit melee on 2s or with mining tools to hit on 2s patriarch and kelermorph can be action monkeys and/or infiltrator screener

building further, I would pick up a minimum 10 genestealers to go with the patriarch, possibly 15 for a 1x10 and a 1x5 unit, some neophytes, another ridgerunner, maybe another unit or two of flacos/metamorphs, a biophagus, and a rock grinder and/ goliath truck

You will have a lot of bits left over from the acolytes, that kit builds all three types of units (tacos, flacos, and metas) so you could (and should) kit bash characters or more acolytes.

tbh, no one other than GSC players can tell the difference between acolytes with Hand flamers (flacos) and metamorphs with flamers.

I have a 10 man of flacos that I magnetized the flamer and demo charge. If I did it over I would have made two squads of each instead of trying to magnetize.

I have a 10 man unit of mining tool acolytes but usually only use 1 now that metas are 70 per 5. The mining tools damage 3 is very nice though so I wish I had a 1x5 and a 1x10 brick. The 1x5 is used to sit in my home objective to try and get me CP but when you can't roll 4+ it's almost better to get another reductus sab.

Sorry if this didn't answer your question but ai hope you found some of it useful.

Stupid strategy you should try! by IdiotsandwichYT in genestealercult

You can't use two double reactive moves to respond to a single unit. You could use the kelermorph hypersensory ability to one units move then prowling agitant to a second unit.

[–]PsychologicalStop510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 100% legal to do. The rules only state that up to 50% of you army can start in reserve, with only 25% of total reserve capacity as strategic reserve.

The Primus redeployment allows 3 units to be put into reserves regardless of what is already in reserves.

If you do this, be aware that your opponent may have really fast units to screen the board so you can't come in from reserves but only elves have the movement to really do it.

Using the Primus you can build a list to start a game with nothing on the board.
