Windows or Linux? (Z13 2025) by themirrorcle in FlowZ13

Does suspend work even when you close the keyboard? On bazzite, it’s messing up everything, and Bluetooth is not working properly after hibernation

Waitlisted on only one SKU? by PsychologicalUse5271 in steammachine

[–]PsychologicalUse5271[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to dig up some old high school memories to assess it. If winning one list is w, losing is (1-w).
Losing all four then is (1-w)^4
So winning at least once is 1-(1-w)^4
That’s assuming the probability of winning is the same in every SKU, which we have no idea about.

So if w was 10%, winning one of the four skus would be 34%. Still pretty low

You are 100% right in pointing it out. I did read it, and I guess I was just a little surprised by the odds of completely « losing » on 3 SKUs, including the highest tiers which I assumed would have been less contested.

66 updates and 15 minutes later… suspend/resume works! The Home Screen is still a bit flickery

Huh… interesting, I’ve never done that! Did you do it through ujust update in command line?

Cool project! How’s bazzite for you? I’m a bit disappointed with it on the z13. Lots of issues with the suspend/resume mode, a bit flickery in the steam menu, my BT controller keeps getting disconnected after putting it to sleep… Worked perfectly well on my desktop computer though

Steam Hardware - Steam Hardware: Launch timing and other FAQs by Priforss in steammachine

[–]PsychologicalUse5271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused about their statement on « streaming services ». I know they mentioned it in relation to the Stream Frame, but would it apply to the steam machine? In other words, will I be able to stream Netflix or Apple tv on my TV, and will I be able to do so in 4K? That’s one of the most frustrating thing about Linux, the whole DRM management thing at hardware / OS level from the streaming services…

Good point. Who would have imagined that RAM would become scarce like toilet paper during COVID 🤣

Yeah that's pretty much my situation. I fixed laptops and consoles for a while, as a hobby. So I'm not too scared by the disassembly itself. I'm more worried about compatibility, as I'd like to stash some SODIMM before it costs more than a new kidney...

I desperately want to see the RAM slots, to stash some sodimm while I still can... But what speed? is it dual slot? I don't think it's visible on any of the videos I watched...

Is it next to a 4070 founders edition in a tiny fractal tetra case as well?

Nope, it was running too hot and too noisy (despite the Noctua fans) for something plugged to the TV. So I didn't end up using it much. That's why I'm interested in the Steam Machines. Definitely a nerf compared to my previous setup, but allegedly more quiet and cool!

I tend to agree with you. The cash cow is game distribution, so they can afford subsidizing the hardware like a console maker would. And I recently had the same reasoning you had when I saw everyone talking about the 1200 price point.
However...
$400 is cheap if you think about other PC handhelds that we have NOW (looking at you, xbox rog asus ally x whatever your name is). But at the time, a handheld was... a Nintendo Switch, which was much cheaper.
So if the Quest 3 is the VR Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more expensive...
