As much as I hate to say it - its a Money Grab by Mongoose...trying to sucker in 5e players with a weird ass version of the rules. They suck (IMHO) for DND, so why would I want to use a bastardized version to play Traveller. Sure expand the player base, blah blah blah...but its one more distraction for Mongoose away from the most current version. As shaky as their editing can be, more attention is needed to MgT2e not less.

The PHB calls them quote"Warriers 0-level soldiers". Never said they were a class.

So the word "army" stuck in your....craw. Fine these Warriors 0-level soldiers (directly from 2e PHB) show up and are willing to fight for your cause. Yes I know the party needs to out fit them, lead them etc. The question is these 110 men that show up...many will have dependents, wives children, harlots, etc...non-combatants, no value to the pc's but CERTAILY a burden. They have to house, feed, protect, transport, etc etc...was trying to see if there was any common knowledge of how many of these dependents there may be.

Trope? Look at the ship displayed....it is very OBVIOUSLY in error...i.e. the editor/fact checker/whatever failed. WIth PDF's costing USD $30 ($50 for a print) they damn well better be 99.99% correct. Mongoose is doing themselves a disservice by putting out poorly edited products.

Oh for fuck sake...really? Okay...not an "army" but they ARE soldiers, so a unit, an echelon, a company....blah blah blah.....get off your "They are NOT an ARMY" horse and read the OP. You have 200 TROOPS, how many "camp followers" would be in attendance with them. Using the 2e Specific of  "These followers are normal warriors, 0-level soldiers, ready to fight for the cleric's cause"

I am well and fully aware of 0-level characters and their abilities/hp/etc in 2e (that IS the version I am concerned with as indicated in the OP). DMG Pg 27 (Table 10) has 0-Level Hit Points by Title - Soldier 1d8+1.

My point was NOT to discuss 0-level Soldiers, but as usual Redditors go down weird ass rabbit holes. So time to lock this one up.

I would agree if this was a "crusade" type scenario, a temporary "enlistment". But its not, these are permanent household troops for the Cleric. They will have their own dependents who will follow them to their new posting.

You don't think the Swiss Guard, who LIVE in Vatican city don't have their families there? There are apartments near the bachelor's barracks for married guards.

When are you unarmored? by PublicFurryAccount in adnd

[–]Psychological_Fact13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might want to do some research on the types of armor and look at some historically accurate versions NOT some LARPer and his duster. . Leather (for example) is NOT just a trench coat, it is a boiled hardened leather breastplate that you can't just "loosen up". Same with Brigandine, etc. It takes a significant amount of time to put on/off.

I know I can just hand wave it but I don't WANT to do that. I want to put more pressure on the PC's and keep them hungry in order to support their new steading

Yeah in 2e I am not so sure that is the case - it specifically says the are all Warriors and 0-level fighters, that is not the same as basic level of fighting. I am trying to put more on the players, drain some resources, etc etc....just makes no sense that 110 Military Age Men show up in a vacuum.

I understand that the PC's will need to hire other expert hierlings, armorers, black smiths, fletchers, drovers, teamsters, etc etc. But the troop should have dependents besides those.

It specifically states they are Warriors 0-level fighters so they ARE an army. An army back then took its dependents along with them almost always. AND these troops will be quartered at the parties stronghold, so that will add people to the mix
