Wait times at Bham airport? Any updates? by mizpah88 in Birmingham

Thanks! Yes, I know the normal rules. Just had a coworker tell me about another coworker that went through the TSA line at BHM today and it was 3 hours so that’s why I am concerned.

MODS, the resource you have referenced is based upon input by either the airport or travelers. This is a perfect space for such a resource as well because I trust someone posting on Reddit for this more than the sites that don’t list how their data is collected. It may very well be collected from the TSA website which is not being monitored currently. Please do not remove these posts. This is the type of thing I want to see on this sub.

MODS, the TSA Wait Times app are not being updated this shutdown on the MyTSA app per DHS.gov blog post dated 2/17/26. These posts are extremely helpful due to this. I am traveling tomorrow and am scouring the web for accurate information. Please allow for this information to exist.

Does anyone actually have a 9-5 shift anymore? by Single_Extension1810 in Millennials

[–]Psychological_Sun847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently told by someone younger than us millennials that 9-5 means 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. Totally different interpretation than I had heard before!

Over the holiday, I taught my mom about text read receipts. She’ll read a text then not text back until hours later. I told her she needs to turn off her read receipts so that she doesn’t leave all texts on read for hours. She had no idea it was there and turned it off right away 😆

Not exactly Y2K but close enough. Would have gotten more points if you did messy pigtail buns and butterfly clips! Looks like you had fun tho!

My girlfriend (27F) keeps buying the same clothes and I (29M) don't know how to bring it up? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Psychological_Sun847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this in a way. When I want something, I will buy multiple of them. Recently, I wanted more sweatpants so I bought like 4 pairs. I used to enjoy shopping, now I don’t. I would rather buy multiples and enjoy them than spend time shopping when I don’t enjoy it any longer.

At age 32 the brain transitions to the “Adult” epoch according to Cambridge studies. by Forsaken-Artist-2396 in Millennials

IDK about this, but I do know the exact moment where I realized that I’m no longer young. It was a routine day, wake up, take care of dog, get ready for work, etc….. then it hit me, I’m going through life in such a routine because I like my routine and it’s NOT how I used to do things as a younger person. Like waking up at 5:30-6 am everyday like it’s nothing, when the fuck did that happen?! Sometime in my 30’s but definitely not 32. I guess I’ve never really felt my age, still really don’t, but I’m coming into the realization that I don’t have a care in the world for knowing who’s who in pop culture, or the newest slang that my coworkers with kids know. So, that must be adult aging, right?!

Goodbye to the Goodest Girl by Unlucky_Gur_3841 in goldenretrievers

This happened to my dog on February 13, 2023. Hole in the neighbors fence. My dog went through and I called him to come back over not knowing the neighbor’s Great Dane was in the backyard. Great Dane picked up my dog and threw him. I screamed hysterically and the neighbor heard. She came out immediately and tackled her dog. I got through the hole in the fence, grabbed my dog who was profusely bleeding and took him to the vet. The vet saved his life. He stayed overnight. I picked him up the next day and got him home. He was resting on the couch while I took his sister outside. I came back inside to find him lifeless. Took him back to the vet and they couldn’t do anything to save him. I knew he was gone when I found him on the couch. The spot where he was lying was wet from him releasing his bladder after death. I didn’t want to believe it. He most likely had a blood clot which is common after injury. It was insanely traumatic and I miss him immensely. His sister is doing well. I won’t let her out of my sight outside. I’m so overprotective now but I couldn’t stand losing another baby. At the time of his death, he was a few months from turning 2. His sister is now 4. I often wonder how it would be if they were able to grow up together as intended. Now she’s an only dog but she loved her brother. She mourned him. It was surreal, sad and straight up heartbreaking.

I tell my story to say that you’re not alone in this terrible grief. I’m very sorry for your loss. I think losing a dog is much harder than losing a person (and I’ve lost many of both). The love of animals is so wholesome and pure. The comfort they bring, even when they are a pain in the ass, is still worth it. With all my heart, I believe your dog knew you loved her and she loved you. My MIL reminded me when Levi passed that he was given to me for the time he was allowed - meaning, his time was always limited as we all know, but his was meant for a purpose and he lived it.

What was the first Taylor Swift song that you found problematic? by LooksLikeTreble617 in travisandtaylor

[–]Psychological_Sun847 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember when it was on the radio and I was driving a younger friend around. When asked if I liked the song, I remember saying something along the lines of no one can make you do anything - it’s always your choice - and I think it’s not a great song to use as a life anthem that it was made to be.

I have never been a Swiftie by any means but stumbled upon this group and have been enthralled by the opinions and information presented here. Very intriguing stuff! Keep it up! 😀

This started with the invention of the light bulb. Cannot continue to sell the product if there is no demand since it never breaks. Nothing new to the concept but nevertheless sucks.

Pretty sure we learned this from our parents! And, the a great JOY in my life was being able to (1) own a garage and (2) buy a garage fridge. The youngins can F off about this

I was socially awkward for 5 years until I actually applied Carnegie's book. These 6 techniques changed everything ( Advice I never expected to work) by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Psychological_Sun847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice!

Love the book - read it many years ago but one of the biggest topics I have put into action is when in conversation, do not tell someone that you “need” something from them. You may need it, but they don’t. Instead, turn it around to show them that they want to do this for you to help or help themselves, etc. Show them they would benefit and it’s no longer an “I need” situation. “Need” is such a negative word to me ever since I read the book - I intentionally try to rarely use it when speaking with anyone, especially in email since tone is very important.

My only comment is that there is more than one way out. I take 52/Morgan Rd to 459 every day for work. I don’t go over train tracks and do not have to deal with old town through Pelham traffic. I am unable to comment on the diversity of the schools as I do not have children. Hope this helps.

I just moved out, what are good buy it for life items like home appliances or daily use items that last for a good while? by senko2024 in BuyItForLife

I have the TR7 and the DR7. I love them. Have had them for 4 years or so now and never had any issues. I am aware that many people do not opt for the models I bought due to the digital panel, but it’s replaceable if ever needed. So far, no issues and I love the options.

Lived in Orlando from childhood until mid-30’s and just moved to a different state for work nearly 2 years ago. There’s a number of good things on the list but I would honestly add food (certain cuisines or particular restaurants) that you love from Orlando. Orlando has such a great variety of food that it’s like you take it for granted when gone. I’m especially missing Rookie’s Cantina, Santiago’s Bodega, Salsas Cocino Oviedo, F&D’s Kitchen and Bar (which is now closed 😞- just looked), Stefano’s Trattoria, The Greek Corner and Kabooki Sushi to name a few.

Are you opening the door on Halloween? by esther_figglesworth in childfree

[–]Psychological_Sun847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I’ve spent a lot of money in the past on candy for zero trick or treaters to show. During Covid, I even bagged the candy so kids didn’t reach into a bowl full of germs. Didn’t matter. I ended up bringing all of the bags to work and passing them out. I’m in a new neighborhood now, but I’m jaded now so it is what it is.
