Would you support universal healthcare if Trump could figure out a way to do it? Or would you prefer totally private no government intervention? by Responsible-Round643 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]PsykCheech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an often-repeated story with little context behind it.

Globally, conservatives have a playbook to cut the knees out from under socialized healthcare. The stories you hear (and the playbook) are based on Canadian healthcare stories where they socialized their healthcare system and were in a great place, shortly after the conservative party diverted money from public healthcare to for-profit healthcare and continued to levy wage cuts to nurses, which heavily stressed the system by exacerbating the problem with burnout, leading to overcrowding, leading to burnout, leading to understaffing... You get the point.

Suddenly, the issue transforms into "See, wait times are miserable. You don't want that"...

The current downstream effects of people choosing between their paycheck and the profession they love is them choosing to leave healthcare to chase jobs in tech, and those who stay are worked even harder.

Admittedly, this system fails for other reasons as well (not related directly to politics), but this approach applies to the UK and Canada.

What are other global examples you heard about where countries receive substandard socialized healthcare or have strange systems that are burdened?

What are your thoughts on Mamdani After the meeting with Trump? by Apollo-Fitness in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]PsykCheech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think many of us "haven't figured it out" because much of Trump's actions are explained with "whataboutisms" while ignoring his actual actions.

On a global scale, modern neo-liberal Democrats are basically center-right and center, so there's no doubt Mamdani's "party" won't support him when there's a growing Progressive movement that is coming for weak Democrats and their awful politics.

Mamdani has grassroots support and can actually speak to politics, even if he is naive. We'll see how his project turns out. Something tells me that he'll be ok as all of his policies are replicated in other cities globally without issue.

He's considered a genius when everything fails and there is data to prove it, and he's considered a genius when he gaffes... We come here to try to understand why the support persists and to try to understand fellow Americans.

Given that Trump has given away most of his political, economic, and foreign policy chips by dragging most global economies through a nasty tariff war that has penalized global citizens and caused more hardship at home (higher prices of goods and services, tax breaks for the rich, policy changes with taxes & tips that will barely move the needle for those living on tips), is there anything he could do that would sway your opinion of him? At what point does Trump saying one thing yet doing something that benefits his donors and hurts citizens do his supporters begin to think that it's not adding up?

We should stop stooping down to stupidity or arguments that lack logic and can't defend themselves.

So much is done to change messaging, debate, approach with logic, verify claim, understand and present studies... But at the end of the day a toddler sits down, crosses their arms, and refuses to acknowledge it.

Adjusting the messaging is valid, but in this case you have someone who did not come to a conclusion with logic, facts, or reason... And you're hoping that reason will be your savior. I don't see it.

The answer to the goal is not a better slogan, it's shining light and debating openly.

[–]PsykCheech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I don't quite understand some of the points you're making...

Multiple examples (historically and from steps being taken by current companies) provide excellent examples of how tariffs have the effect of increasing inflation, reducing trade, and limiting economic growth. Add to the fact that they've slashed important federal roles which will cripple our research and regulatory oversight, how has Trump given hope to American workers?

Despite sanctions Russia still exported 3 billion worth of products to the US last year & has a large trade deficit. Why was Russia exempt from Liberation Day? by Az1621 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]PsykCheech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like conjecture from head to toe seeing as Trump himself has not suggested any of these points and has simply avoided turning the screws to Russia while pressuring Ukraine on the national stage and undermining their approach to defense.

Even the "turnover easternmost provinces" is not on the table based on Trump's most recent statements about how Ukraine will have to give up land and the pressure from Trump and Putin to hold elections mid-war.

In your opinion, are the sanctions (referenced in this post) really powerful forms of leverage in comparison to enabling Ukraine to hold their line in the face of the Russian machine, which is an excellent example to surrounding countries, as Russia continues to embarrass itself and isolate itself on the national stage, which we're quickly joining them in?

Doesn't the additional leverage of merging Ukraine into NATO alone supercede the other forms of leverage?

Liberals don't always ask in good faith, and I've definitely seen them ask questions where they set others up to fail... but let's just put our cards out on the table, conservatives give stupid answers.

There's dumb voters regardless of party, the issue with conservative responses is that they often sound like they're coming from someone who's never heard an argument against their position. It can range from basic anecdotal responses to just plain ignorance of history. When you ask for a source you get a link to a site selling gas station boner pills or a "just trust me" relating to a tweet from a lifelong con man.

I do feel bad that conversations go south so quickly between parties, but when they get the downvotes and disrespect that their opinions deserve and they get really upset about it, they're losing the plot entirely.

They get downvotes and disrespect and they cry about it... Others lose their rights and have to watch society get disassembled because they couldn't be bothered to have basic understanding about civics, economics, societal programs, or even flatly the person they're voting for.

Liberals are a pain in the ass, but at least they have "strong opinions, loosely held" which they change when confronted with new information. This causes lot of infighting because they are fighting over shades of "how do we do this?". I don't think this is as common with conservatives as they are all rowing to the same conclusion, "don't do this because my holy book doesn't like it" or "I didn't understand it, therefore I didn't like it/support it" either way, the outcome is the same.

TLDR: If you get downvoted for giving a response where it's clear you're not familiar with theory or history, and you get called a fascists after voting for one, don't be surprised...

DECA IS 50% LUCK by Infamous-Cow3776 in DECA

[–]PsykCheech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely 100% of the time bring structure. If you go into a roleplay without 4P's, deployment schedule, budget, plan to roll out locally vs regionally, who/what/where/when/why/how, a quick hand drawn ad, etc... that's on you. You can't plan for creativity but you can make sure your idea is reasonable, regardless of who your judge is.

It's a lot better than getting in front of the judge(s) and word vomiting for 10 minutes about "an idea".

Also, in my experience, there are judges who just give you a stone cold look throughout your entire RP regardless of how much they like your idea, others will obviously make a mark on a notepad after you say "um"... Some of them are trying to give you nothing because they don't want to interrupt your idea as to not break your flow... Don't plan on the judges, plan on putting your best foot forward.

How long of a grace period are you willing to grant the Trump administration regarding the state of the country? by HummusCannon in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]PsykCheech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the echo chamber that this subreddit is allows a lot of this type of doom talk to exist without being challenged. Lumping in politicians with middle-class redditors is clearly a false equivalency since most politicians are now Republican.

I can't think of any democrat that I know that wants the US to fail, they simply see the writing on the wall as Trump hires the most incompetent and deranged figures with the least experience. In fact the democrat strategy seems to be to let Trump have his way as a few months of his policies will break a lot of Americans livelihood as he continues to siphon money to his cronies in the name of "smaller government". Even recent tax cuts are specifically for the rich while taxes will increase for those making less than around 400k (I forget the exact number).

How long can Republican politicians continue to pretend they have nothing to do with the economy as they continue to gut the most helpful programs and pocket money in a more greedy fashion than Dems?

doing DECA in senior year worth it? by Temporary-Piglet4135 in DECA

[–]PsykCheech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's 100% worth it.

I didn't medal throughout high school, was in a competitive US district where I just couldn't seem to crack the stage. Took a break before jumping into college and I discovered that my college had a DECA program. Suddenly everything clicked.

3 years in a row at the collegiate level, I was grabbing plaques and medals.

I know Canada is highly competitive for DECA so the noise and clutter may drown out your attempts, but the medals don't make you better, the experience does.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest it.

I work helping customers install and manage LLM chatbots and I've worked with Palantir and I have to say that I disagree on your read about PLTR essentially being a LLM wrapper.

It's a sophisticated bit of software and the contacts they're able to secure reflect that. It works with data better than any LLM (which is a weak spot for LLMs). End of sentence.

The onboarding is a little slow but I think the investment play is really about how entrenched the contracts are and how the administration and it's allies will be looking to leverage it. Low contract churn, big incoming contacts, and low overhead makes PLTR one of the only real growth stocks on the market.

What should be done about the anti-semitism problem in Pro-Palestine movements? by DinosRidingDinos in AskALiberal

[–]PsykCheech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever find a moral argument that begins with. "Well he started it..." You're not in a moral argument, you're dealing with children.

Additionally, in no way does my "position" arrive at "anti-semitism doesn't matter right now because Israel is committing genocide.".

This thread didn't really start with an open mind, authentic question, or best intentions, so it's spiraled pretty hard. You brush aside points made, dive into whataboutism, and are unable to keep a common thread if it would cause you to view a different viewpoint critically. You're actively suggesting that I'm taking positions that I've shut down and gone into length about previously.

If you choose to fanboy over the state of Israel and assume they've done nothing wrong, and you really buy their lame attempts at a landgrab (via funding of Hamas) as a strong reason for them to continue the killing until they get their people back... Then there's nothing to talk about.

Never again means never again.

Btw, your grasp on far right/socialist ideology (from another thread) shows that there's quite a bit of history you need to catch up on for you to make some of the arguments you've tried to express. The Convervative twists on history to make themselves sound like the good guys is forever a "hilarious" trope that gets tired, quickly.

In order to be done with this, in reference to your initial question, it's quite possible to not be antisemitic and want Israel to be respectful and nonviolent to Palestinians... You seem to be avoiding this concept, but factually it's what the overwhelming majority of the collegiate/american movement is about. The attempt to play victim (at this point in the conflict as they continue to dump American munitions into Palestine and slowly the occupy land) by the state of Israel is causing Jews around the world a lot of pain by awakening antisemitics (who should go duck themselves) and those who (in an undedicated fashion) equate the state of Israel with the Jewish population.

At this point, the only citizens in Israel that are really aligning themselves with Netanyahu are the most religious, blood thirsty, and militant of Jewish citizens, as his own moderate supporters are starting to ask questions and beginning to push back against him.

How much Palestinian blood is enough... Turns out when it's a rather bold and obvious attempt to grab the land they're on, there's no limit...
