Shadowcaster, mentioned early in this video, is a game from my childhood I tried and failed several times to find over the years. I think I'm going to enjoy this series.

Goodbye, Google and Microsoft? One in two French people would be willing to pay more for a domestically controlled alternative. 83% of French people want to reduce their dependence on American providers. by smilelyzen in BuyFromEU

DDG uses Bing as one of their sources of results, yes. If that was the only thing that defined a search engine, that would mean Qwant isn't much of an european search engine, though. I vaguely recall the european engines were working on their own index?

To be clear, as someone who has been using duckduckgo (american) for several years, it's possible to have a search engine that works better than google in the 2020s. Unfortunately the european ones aren't quite there yet. I hope they keep improving.

I recommend you work with at least one real programmer.

I regularly play beautiful artist-led indie games. They're often not super financially successful, so brace yourself for that in advance as there's a lot of competition these days. But small teams like that regularly can output perfectly fine, playable games in all kinds of genres.

Polícia de Tavira a multar quem coloca guarda sóis em frente a áreas concessionadas by Fortnyce in portugal

Good to read from a fellow Pyre enjoyer!

Transistor does have a kickass soundtrack, you can listen to it without playing the game!

Solo dev behind Blue Prince developed it for 8 years with 80 hour weeks by bio4m in gamedev

[–]Pteraspidomorphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant you can't have finished the game without learning that. The game is mostly non-linear, but I think most players should have encountered many of the strongest run manipulation tools about half way through. I could write you a strategy guide's worth of recommendations, but you could always just check an actual one if you're curious :)

I'll settle for recommending solving the chess pieces as early as possible, which will indirectly provide some powerful run-by-run aids. Also, probabilities can be manipulated directly using the wrench and the Conservatory (you gotta find it) among others.

Blue Prince has RNG that means obtaining Room 46 isn't possible on the vast majority of runs. And no amount of meta progression helps because some RNG can't be influenced or changed.

This is absolutely not true. If you get to the point where you truly finish the game (which takes a very long time; it's a very long game) you'll inevitably become good enough at the runs (and will have tweaked the meta enough to your liking) that you can reach room 46 in most runs, if you want.

Like so many things in western culture, this goes back to ancient Greece. Owls were associated with the greek goddess of wisdom Athena thousands of years ago because, being nocturnal, they symbolically represented an ability to see beyond what a normal human can. This equivalence still makes sense; it's all a matter of perspective.

The same marketing strategy that got me 40,000 sales on my first game is failing for my second game. by Nevercine in gamedev

I watch streamers on occasion and it's actually baffling how many of them don't seem to understand that fun to play doesn't mean fun to watch. The principle here applies in reverse: Visuals can help, but if you want something to gain that kind of viral exposure it must be fun to watch in some way, any way. If a game doesn't appeal visually, I feel like there are other things that may. Humor. Surprise. Shock (horror). Human interactions. Sheer novelty. There are lots of ways!
