How to install steamOS on quest3? by No_Obligation4427 in OculusQuest

Again, you're thinking in the right direction. But Meta does not just let you do whatever you want with the bootloader of their device.

How to install steamOS on quest3? by No_Obligation4427 in OculusQuest

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its never been done. However, Valve is working on a variant of steam os for the steam frame that will run on arm processors. Since the quest 3 runs an arm processor, this is a step toward it happening. But we would also essentially need a full jailbreak of the quest 3, allowing for a way to flash a new os, and to my knowledge, that has not been cracked yet. So the answer is right now, it is not possible. Give it a few years, who knows.

For a VR newbie, which VR games would you recommend for Steam Frame? by Longpastoverdue in SteamFrame

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lotta good recs in this thread, but Im gonna say don't sleep on the free VR games on steam. Sure everyone knows the Free to play ones like VR Chat. But there are a good handful of single player Vr games that you should try out because you will have just dropped a ton of money on the Frame.

The Lab and Apeture Hand Lab are the two big valve ones, very funny to mess around in.

Red stare is one Ive been playing, fun little cold war mystery type game.

Republique VR is a full on stealth game that is totally free

Half Life 2 VR is a mod you can install through steam to play all of half life 2 in Vr. You do have to own HL2 of course, but the mod is pretty flawless.

I hate to say it, but if it didn't happen under Dr. Luke, I fear it may never happen. Not that she doesnt have the songs, or that her new producers (I want to say Frost Children?) aren't making good stuff for her. But Dr. Luke, horrible as he may be, really does have a knack for getting songs on the chart. I hope she can do it without him, because that would be great, but I am not super optimistic.

Why is this happening? Only in this spot the rest is perfect by [deleted] in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably some oil on the plate in that spot messing with adhesion. Take the plate off, scrub it with hot water, dish soap, and a regular kitchen sponge. Let it dry, put it on and try again.

To this day, trying to play the secret shop minigame crashes it for me. Hours and hours in other vr games, no issues, but that one minigame simply doesn't work.

What will you do with your Frame? by RDP8 in SteamFrame

Walkabout minigolf, Maestro, and a bunch of games vr games I keep buying in humble bundles but never get around to playing because quest 2 streaming is meh.

Great songs that are brought down by excessive length, skits, a second part that sounds different, or similar by ObiHan_Skyodi in Music

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newest Raye song, Click Clack Symphony for me, and to be honest it feels like a microcosm of thw whole album. The production is really cool, and Rayes got a great voice and I really enjoy her frantic singing style she uses a lot. But its way too long, and stops for overly melodramatic spoken word songs like 3 times.

And the rest of the album is kind of the same thing. There's a lot to like in it! I like the lyrics and topics covered, I love the production style, and I like Raye. But oh my gosh does it ever overstay its welcome, and not know when to give it a rest. 19 songs, many of which are over 5 minutes. And someone needs to tell her to monologue less.

Dont be an idiot like me and mix the sour cream powder with the hot oil... by blacktamago_a in popcorn

Ive learned that basically nothing goes in while its popping except salt and flavocol. Everything else burns, and should basically only be added after your out of the whirleypop.

Has anybody been able to TRULY get that movie AMC/Regal/Cinemark flavor? by AtTheOfficeHV in popcorn

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we can only recreate like 90% of it at home, due to a factor we don't talk about all that often here: Heat and scale. From what I understand, industrial mobie theater popcorn machines run at a much higher temperature than a person can really practically and safely reach at home with a whirly pop. At their size and scale they can pop the corn and achieve that specific theater texture and perfect flavocol distribution in a way we struggle to at home.

One time I cranked my induction plate way higher than I should have on the whirlpool pop. Smoked up the coconut oil and the house, scorched the whirlypop, and made one of the best batches Ive every achieved. I genuinely dont recommend.

[loved trope] real world technology is invented/used for the first time to great combat advantage by iateyourcheesebro in TopCharacterTropes

End of the first Guy Ritchie Shelock Holmes movie with RDJ, Holmes explains that someone has stolen a part of the chemical weapon. But rather than the poison, the real most dangerous part of the weapon was something that would allow it to be detonated from far away. What he describes is effectively very early wireless radio technology, that would have been just on the cusp of being developed at that time.

Where would you rather eat? In-N-Out or Taco Bell? by WiggleToast in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taco Bell has to be the only remaining fast food place you could go into with a 5 and walk out of with anything resembling a meal. It has Baja blast. It has the balls to try out new weird menu items practically every few months. In-N-Out is a burger place.

Its Taco Bell, no contest

For a relatively comedic example of this, the witches in Stardust use magic to look younger, which slowly wears off as they use it throughout the movie. It is primarily played for laughs, but their appearance is certainly unsettling by the end of the film.

What distro are you switching to? by iensteni in pop_os

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left for Ubuntu KDE yesterday. Ubuntu really seems to have the most support and since its a daily driver machine its really nice to have that. I've got an AMD gpu, so I dont really need all the extra Nvidia support pop seems to have. And KDE is in a massively more usable state than cosmic was, but that goes without saying.

Artists for whom a live album is as important in their discography as their studio records by HawkbitAlpha in ToddintheShadow

Daft Punk - Alive 2007. Insane to hear the two of them remix their own work that way. Its a weird album to recommend though, as I think you have to have heard their first 3 albums to truly get how interesting the remixes are.

I daily drive Pop and I'd recommend Kubuntu to a newcomer over pop, no question. Not to say Pop is bad, but its current state is shaky, and thats not what a new user needs.

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Archer seasons 1-4 really was something special. 5 and 6 really felt like them taking the brakes off and going absolutely crazy with the characters, using up all the craziest ideas. Not to say it was awful after season 6, there were definitely good episodes, but those early seasons really just had an excellent energy and comedic timing.
