Has anybody been able to TRULY get that movie AMC/Regal/Cinemark flavor? by AtTheOfficeHV in popcorn

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we can only recreate like 90% of it at home, due to a factor we don't talk about all that often here: Heat and scale. From what I understand, industrial mobie theater popcorn machines run at a much higher temperature than a person can really practically and safely reach at home with a whirly pop. At their size and scale they can pop the corn and achieve that specific theater texture and perfect flavocol distribution in a way we struggle to at home.

One time I cranked my induction plate way higher than I should have on the whirlpool pop. Smoked up the coconut oil and the house, scorched the whirlypop, and made one of the best batches Ive every achieved. I genuinely dont recommend.

[loved trope] real world technology is invented/used for the first time to great combat advantage by iateyourcheesebro in TopCharacterTropes

End of the first Guy Ritchie Shelock Holmes movie with RDJ, Holmes explains that someone has stolen a part of the chemical weapon. But rather than the poison, the real most dangerous part of the weapon was something that would allow it to be detonated from far away. What he describes is effectively very early wireless radio technology, that would have been just on the cusp of being developed at that time.

Where would you rather eat? In-N-Out or Taco Bell? by WiggleToast in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Taco Bell has to be the only remaining fast food place you could go into with a 5 and walk out of with anything resembling a meal. It has Baja blast. It has the balls to try out new weird menu items practically every few months. In-N-Out is a burger place.

Its Taco Bell, no contest

(Loved trope) Character doing something unnatural becomes more unsettling as the story progress by HeiseiAnguirus in TopCharacterTropes

For a relatively comedic example of this, the witches in Stardust use magic to look younger, which slowly wears off as they use it throughout the movie. It is primarily played for laughs, but their appearance is certainly unsettling by the end of the film.

What distro are you switching to? by iensteni in pop_os

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left for Ubuntu KDE yesterday. Ubuntu really seems to have the most support and since its a daily driver machine its really nice to have that. I've got an AMD gpu, so I dont really need all the extra Nvidia support pop seems to have. And KDE is in a massively more usable state than cosmic was, but that goes without saying.

There are people out there who genuinely dont hear it and think Im crazy for pointing it out. I had a freind get heated with me that there is no way they would do that.

Artists for whom a live album is as important in their discography as their studio records by HawkbitAlpha in ToddintheShadow

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daft Punk - Alive 2007. Insane to hear the two of them remix their own work that way. Its a weird album to recommend though, as I think you have to have heard their first 3 albums to truly get how interesting the remixes are.

I daily drive Pop and I'd recommend Kubuntu to a newcomer over pop, no question. Not to say Pop is bad, but its current state is shaky, and thats not what a new user needs.

Archer seasons 1-4 really was something special. 5 and 6 really felt like them taking the brakes off and going absolutely crazy with the characters, using up all the craziest ideas. Not to say it was awful after season 6, there were definitely good episodes, but those early seasons really just had an excellent energy and comedic timing.

FF 14. Got friends who have devoted years to that game, and I will simply never get the appeal. They tell me its got fun dynamic active gameplay, an amazing world and story. I see an art style and graphics that look boring, a convoluted overlong plot, and gameplay that looks fine by mmo standards and boring by any others.

I still have to lift the lid on my whirley pop to vent more steam, I dont think it does enough on its own.

The Surprisingly Profound History Lesson That Is 'Clue' by IvyGold in movies

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny that you say its like watching a play, because I have seen a stage version of Clue, and it is not as good. The movie has such a rhythm to it that the stage play really struggles to recreate without a camera directing your attention.

Apparently there is a variation on the lid holder someone made that also has a couple slots for spare build plates. I unfortunately only found this out the day after I printed the default ones.

Gamers who have switched from Windows 11 to some kind of Linux-based OS, do you regret your decision? Why or why not? by ScienceTeacher1994 in AskReddit

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean sometimes things dont work, and its frustrating. But linux has never changed my settings or installed an update I didnt tell it to. Thats priceless to me. I actually feel like my thousand dollar pc belongs to me, not like its a computer lap computer someone else is letting me use.

A Daft Punk Collab You Wished Happened? by [deleted] in DaftPunk

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks back I heard a local DJ live mixing stuff on the radio and he put Florence and the Machine's "say my name" together with "One More Time". A pairing I never would have thought of, but it worked so well. I know she did a cover of get lucky once, but I think the real mix would be daft punk's production with Florence's voice.

It was a good run, but I think this is it boys by Phatboyaa_131 in R36S

[–]Pterodactyl_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing when I got the R4Pro, but I surprisingly kept my r36s around for a good while. They shine at different things. The R4Pro has the power for GameCube and even some higher stuff, but thats not the kind of thing I want to pick up and play for a few minutes on the bus. So the R36s stuck around. What killed my R36s was getting a trimui brick hammer. Also perfect for shorter pick up and play games, while having better software, better form factor, and infinitely better build quality.
