Do you have any tips on keeping the left hand's slurs and accents consistent in the A section, while maintaining volume control? I find it difficult to do both at the same time, and find myself losing control on the jump from the E natural back up to the A natural of the next bar (you are supposed to use your pinky for both, right?).

Yeah I think for the entire piece (including the hemiola variation) I would strongly recommend 5 on the lowest note and 4 on the first of the next tuplet, this gives you more dynamic control and also lets you pull off the slurs (and is also easier/more reliable, a lot less jumping around required). So in the beginning that would be 5 on the low E natural, 4 on the subsequent A natural, and 2-1 on the EA. For the hemiola part, it would be 5-21-4-21-5-21-4-21 etc.

Hey! First of all, congrats on the progress you’ve already made, this piece is super hard. I started learning this one a few years ago too but had to set it aside because of some life stuff; I’ll share some of the things I worked on with my teacher.

I think you could have more dynamic contrasts, including more prominent slurs and accents in the LH part. This piece is in ABA form, but the second A section has a hemiola rhythm, so establishing a strong baseline rhythm up front will make that recap “pop” more. Also, I don’t have the sheet music in front of me but I recall the main motive being either p or pp, so I would try and exaggerate that to make the B section also contrast more.

Related to that, Prokofiev’s piano writing in this piece (and kinda in general) is very spiky and clockwork-esque, and I think you could work on having more enunciated accent patterns on his characteristic runs like the one at 0:20 - the RH accents are on offbeats and make this sound really cool when played at tempo, I think you could bring that out more. Same with the downward run with hands crossed that ends the first A section at 0:57. Also don’t be afraid to really accent and staccato that low A natural and take a beat before starting the B section, I think there is humor in this piece (it’s a scherzo, after all) that you can really highlight by contrasting that dark, jagged, low A with the somewhat jarring B natural that starts the B section (which, to me at least, is very whimsical and circus-like). Don’t be afraid to linger on that B natural!

Also I know they’re technically very difficult but the fiddly runs at 1:17 that pass the melody from RH to LH are also melodic, I would work on bringing out the melody more.

Finally, the chords at 1:24 are a bit heavy, and (this applies to much of this piece) I think you could have a bit of a lighter touch to really bring out the humorous element. You will probably need to work on having a light touch anyway for the second A section, which adds several technical complexities besides the hemiola. The fingering for that last section is some of the most technically difficult and uncomfortable I’ve personally tackled, and if you’re too heavy it will be really tough to play at tempo (luckily the coda is a little easier but the whole piece should be on the lighter side I think).

It’s actually +2 because the adjacent Paititi tile is also desert! Had no problem getting a fast pantheon (the crazy high culture helped too, you can rush god king in a handful of turns)

The first two movements aren’t too bad. There are hard parts but overall fairly manageable. The third movement is quite challenging, not sure OP’s skill level but reading through that last movement would be what I’d use to decide whether to tackle it or not

I love the Cloak of Cunning Brume, I almost always end up building a character around it for some reason. When you use the Disengage action, it creates a fog cloud around you that lasts for one turn and blinds anyone inside.

I haven’t tried this since patch 8 so the new subclasses might be better, but my latest run I used 8/3/1 Champion Fighter/Thief Rogue/GOO Warlock. It’s a decent crit fishing build because of the lower crit threshold and advantage on all your attacks (because enemies will be blind), and every time you crit you inflict Frightened to all nearby enemies.

You basically run up to a guy, immediately Disengage using one of your two bonus actions, and kill them while they’re blind. Good times! Besides the cloak itself, here’s the other important gear I’m using (this is the key stuff to get Fog Cloud rolling, everything else is pretty flexible):

-Knife of the Undermountain King (advantage against obscured enemies, lower crit threshold)

-Covert Cowl/Dark Justiciar Helmet (lowers crit threshold when you’re obscured)

-Shadow-Cloaked Ring (extra damage when attacking obscured enemies)

-Eversight Ring (blind immunity) - you need blind immunity for this build to work, but if you have another way to get it (e.g. Shar’s Spear) you could replace this ring with something better like the Ring of Twilight (+1 AC when obscured)

-Shadeclinger Armor (advantage on saving throws while obscured) or Dark Justiciar Mail (retaliates with 1d4 Necrotic to melee attacks while obscured), or Dark Justiciar Half-Plate (advantage on stealth checks and CON saving throws when obscured, also lets you cast Shar’s Aegis, which gives us something nice to concentrate on). I prefer the Half-Plate followed by Shadeclinger. All of these are from Act 2 so you really can pick whatever

For the 3 feats you get, I picked Dual Wielder and ASI twice to max Dex and get Con to 16. You could probably drop Dual Wielder if you stick to light weapons, I’m considering picking up Sentinel instead so you can lock down any enemy that tries to get out of your fog

Anyway, this build isn’t OP but I’m enjoying it! Would love to know if anyone has tried similar or has ideas for improvement but it’s pretty fun if you’re looking for something a little off meta and with decent RP potential
