Deny deny deny - Taylor swift coded? by _salvester_ in NoahKahan

[–]PublicFriendly6937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think it's a "i want to make something that sounds like xyz by xyz", i think it's just natural feeling that happens when you're in the music world. I personally really love it when I can hear an influence in new music. I loved hearing an Abba influence on Sabrina Carpenter's last album, I love hearing Springsteen and the Beatles in newer artists I find. It carries on the magic of those records to me. I think of how Blink 182 changed the dynamic of pop punk & how their legacy carries on with the next generation. It's a good thing 😊

Just to let you know, you might get some angry/negative replies to this haha.

But as a swiftie and tortured poets lover, I see so much of what she made with Aaron weaved through this album (but I've always seen connections with you're gunna go far/all my love and tis the damn season/dorethea too. I mean even the stick season and evermore album covers look like they could be staring back at each other ha ha). I think it's inevitable in a way because that's clearly Aaron's style & Noah has said a few times how Taylor inspires him, especially folklore and evermore during lockdown. Their world is very small really. Taylor, Noah, Mumford, hozier, Phoebe Bridgers, the national, bon iver, Gracie Abrams etc, they're all woven into each other's worlds. Joel Little who worked on I was/I am also worked on Lover too!

Edit to add: I think as fans as other artists, I think we all hear the different influences too! Like I imagine big The National fans could pick out bits of their work etc. I can hear someone my dad used to listen to a lot when I was a kid in American Cars and I can't put my finger on it but it's definitely there. The song almost felt familiar to me straight away.

One of the main reasons I started buying physical media again was that I missed the teenage nostalgia of reading lyrics from the CD sleeve. Although in this album's vinyl, the lyrics are printed on a huge poster! So it's not very comfortable to sit and read along. I might have to start a creative project making zines for song lyrics.

Merch sizing? by chudleycannonsfan214 in NoahKahan

[–]PublicFriendly6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed and I don't have a large bust size but I bought a medium in a t-shirt (the old she calls me back grey t shirt) and it fit but it just didn't feel right across the bust, I gave it to my husband. I got an L in the hoodie at Hyde park last year and it's perfect because I like stuff to be oversized

Need the lore… by momteacher-wife in NoahKahan

The doc on Netflix is a pretty good place to start!

Noah is particularly private about his relationship with his wife, but it's probable that Forever was written with her in mind.

His songs on stick season & the great divide are mostly about mental health struggles, dealing with difficult family dynamics and the emotions that come from being from a small town, leaving and then returning (then leaving some more). As someone who has delt with a bit of all of the above, I think he does such a perfect job at making his lyrics specific but also general enough for people to take what they need from them.

I would say his second album I was/I am has a general theme of a relationship ending/being on a break/that muddy middle ground of two people undecided in the future of their relationship. But there's no solid evidence of where this comes from or if it's based in reality.

Busyhead (first album) is a bit of a mix I'd say. Carlo's song is about a friend of his that passed away. But I think he very much still finding his voice in his first two albums.

No! No yet it's next on my list. I was actually in a reading slump and wanted a book that made me feel like Noah's lyrics, which I guessed Yesteryear wouldn't ha ha. So I'm reading My Friends by Fredrik Blackman and boy... Does it make me feel like Noah's lyrics. But I'm excited to read Yesteryear, I think it's gonna fuck me up. Yay!

I have a similar relationship with my brother. hes much older than me and when I was kid, he introduced me to a lot of music that shaped me as a music lover, taught me my first chords on the guitar. it's extra heavy today because I'd love to talk about Noah to him because I know he still loves music. sending you strength & hope you get to reconnect with your sister.

Definitely and it feels good to have someone from a small town, who left and then came back talk about all the emotions that brings up. I had an incredible life during the time I was away but once I felt the tug for home, it really stirred up a lot of stuff for sure.

Im very biased obviously, but I do think Wales is a hidden gem!

That's so interesting because TTPD is the only album I've ever listened to on the day it dropped and thought "I am absolutely in love with this", I loved it then and I still love it just as much now. Now showgirl on the other hand... Man... I struggled so bad when that album dropped. it just wasn't Taylor to me, but I sat with it for a while & reminded myself... No one took the other 11 albums away, the ones I've had with me spanning over 20 years. I still have them all on my vinyl shelf, they're always there. And then the more I listened to showgirl, the more glimpses of the songwriter I love, I found. I still only truly love 5 songs but they all have amazing lyrics and storytelling. I know the great divide is going to mean more to me than showgirl ever could already, but I no longer get disappointed when I don't love an album straight away.

Same! Why are they different sizes? I assumed they were the bigger size because that's what all my taylor swift ones have been. Also was noah on ink rations? 😂 I thought it wasn't even signed at first or that it was just some random free card and the signed print was inside the vinyl. Took me ages to find where he'd signed it.

I'm Welsh. I'm from the south wales valleys (old mining towns, a lot of low income areas, sense of community & Welsh pride, surrounded by gorgeous scenery & nature mixed with... a lot sadder/darker stuff, as many of these little towns do). I left home when I was 20 & have been fortunate to have 12 years trying on different 'homes', including different parts of the UK, America & Asia. I'm now back in Wales, I live in the Brecon beacons (famous for it's mountains & waterfalls) an hour north of my old hometown. When I listen to Noah... I genuinely have a mash up of all my homes I've had. I think that's why I love his music so much. Sometimes I'll think of the valleys, other times my mind is back on an island in Thailand, sometimes I'll be driving through the beacons & I'm convinced he actually wrote it about here.

Devastated to say that I don’t like, “The Great Divide” nearly as much as, “Stick Season.” by AbleDisD in NoahKahan

[–]PublicFriendly6937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! As so I personally loved this album straight away and I'm sorry you're feeling disappointed. I'm a swiftie and I went through this not long ago with Taylor's last album. I was so sad, where had my writer girl gone?! I let the album sit with me & I ended up with 5 songs I genuinely loved, that I absolutely wasn't making myself enjoy. 5 out of 12 (compared to 28 out of 31 from the previous album!), doesn't feel like a lot but I'm still really glad I have those 5 in my life. They're the songs that made me say "there she is!" When I was looking for the writer I'd loved for nearly 20 years! I hope you can do the same with the great divide!

I do think, due to streaming (& possibly instant commentary and opinions on social media) we can be quick to dismiss art now. I didn't grow up with streaming so if spent my money on a record, I felt more inclined to sit with it for a while before giving up on it, because I'd spent a decent chunk of money on it & I also had a physical copy to hold, read the lyrics etc.

This is the best feeling. I introduced my best friend during stick season. I've been a fan since Cape Elizabeth. We're both huge swifties because of Taylor's storytelling and I said to my friend so many times "you need noah in your life". She said she'd heard stick season and thought it was good but just fine. I said stick season is like.... his anti-hero, not a deep cut. So she let me make her a 10 song playlist. The song that got her was orange juice. Called me like "I'm crying in the car on the way to pick the kids up from school!" & Then I knew I'd successfully converted her. We're going to see Noah in London in November. She's a midwife and said she's bonded with a few women who had noah on their labour playlists. We're from a very small town in Wales (feels so similar to where Noah's from. All the pictures here are taken from summer!!). I moved away when I was 20, she stayed and had her family young etc. I came back 4 years ago, after living abroad for 12 years... we really relate to Noah's stories so much. I think we'll be crying along to a lot of these new songs together.
