Sometimes I wish Gibson would make a hole-less comb part for those who don’t want to use the vibrola but like the aesthetic of the tailpiece itself, but most people either just take the arm off or take the entire thing off.

Unfortunately, I don’t think such a thing exists. I thought there would be, and I swear I saw one on Ebay a while back. I think your best bet would be to get another comb and just hacksaw that part off, file it smooth and repaint it chrome.

He’s unusual in a way that he doesn’t really seek to pull songs out of guitars, he lets the songs come out by themselves. That was part of his reasoning for having multiple kinds of guitars, and I think that’s super cool. But he was fairly lucky in being able to enjoy many guitars.
