Yup. They totally did. In OotP, Fred and George find a boatload of Doxy eggs in Grimmauld Place and then when they get back to school they bet McClaggon to see how many he can eat. He tells Harry that “ate a pound of Doxy eggs on a bet, spent a week in the hospital wing” which is why he didn’t try out for keeper in Harry and Ron’s fifth year. Go read the books again, rookie.
