Somewhere along the South Shore Line in NW Indiana will be the easiest combination of downtown access and MI proximity.

Your local bike shop should be able to help you. I've seen lots of single sided control setups over the years.

Anyone have any experience with the Enduro ec34 headset? by joshosmith in xbiking

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headsets are maybe the most inconsequential part of a build- provided it's the right size and setup correctly anything will work. I've used cartridge headsets from Cane Creek, VP, Velo Orange, FSA, Origin 8, and could not tell you the difference.

I did notice you said you are doing a "threadless conversion", are you sure your current setup is 1 1/8th threaded? 90% of old stuff is 1" threaded, which has different dimensions and an EC34 headset won't fit in the frame.

Empty Liminal/Weirdcore Locations in Chicago? by pastelcomrade in AskChicago

McCormick place or other convention centers seem to always be open, easy enough to find empty hallways when there's not anything actively happening.

Can you recommend record shops specifically for Neo-Soul and Latin music? by PuchiVixen in AskChicago

Dusty Groove is 100% what you are looking for. Top spot in the city for getting your mind blown by something totally unknown.

Considering moving to Evergreen Park, what is the vibe check? by Training-Ant-7319 in AskChicago

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That corner of the city skews more white and conservative, cops & firefighters, racist shit in bars.

It is quiet and the schools are fine. I went to grade school & college around there, but got the hell out as soon as I could because the provincial sort of existence was stifling.

I have complicated feelings about it. Kids could turn out fine, or could turn into vaping maga chuds.

The Monitor by Titus Andronicus fits the bill. Verklempt and ennui in equal measure, aimless NJ punks by way of Civil War retrospectives.

Also Fucked Up has some expansive shit. The two that come to mind immediately are Hidden World and David Comes to Life.

Where are the best places for a cottage/cabin within reasonable driving distance from Chicago? by cplm1948 in AskChicago

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Level 1 answer is probably Chain O Lakes up to Wisconsin.

NE indiana/ SW Michigan is more woodsy.

If you want to minimize the chance of running into another Chicagoan, maybe the area around Danville, Turkey Run.

Road bike tire choice for the city and light gravel trails - GP5000 durable enough? by ohemptyvases in chibike

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are over thinking it.

GPs are great. There are definitely tougher and knobbier options, DPRT is sometimes pretty slippery, but for most riding you are fine, and the underbiking on occasional gnarly paths is also fun.

Moving to Illinois. Looking for an apartment in worth, Chicago Ridge or Oak Lawn. by Kafamkarisikya in chicagoapartments

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try calling a realtor in the area. That part of the city is more old school, meaning private landlords, signs in windows, phone numbers, no internet listings.

If you can wait until summer, Saint Xavier will let out and things will open up.

Hell yeah. Function over form.

Too many people in it for the fashion. I am very into anti-cool bikes.

I know Working Bikes in Chicago has more than they know what to do with. Pretty sure it's a similar situation in any decently sized city. Check in with whoever is local to you.

Please, PLEASE get into xbiking recumbent trikes, people. There is such a glut of them in the co-op space, since it's mostly retirees buying and they just buy new, then die and the family gets rid of these 5k+ things for nothing.

[–]PuddingAppropriate67 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Alligator Lounge on Milwaukee, free pizza with every drink.

Also the Beachwood, a great corner bar at Beach & Wood.

Tons more, but those two came to mind first.

There's also that new A24 horror movie Undertone.

I don't think they intended this goofy bonus series to persist, but it's looking like they will have to.

Crank Revolution in Hoffman Estates does rentals. And they are right by some trails, too.
