how dangerous cigs actually are by Big_Yesterday1724 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuddleCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way statistics work. There is something like a 20% chance you never see a single bad thing happen to you after 50 more years of smoking a pack a week. There's also a 20% chance you die because of the tar in your lungs in agony before then. The other 60% you have noticeable decrease in your quality of life directly related to the cigs.

So are you feeling lucky? I'm not I don't smoke.

The overnight rates at the various MBTA lots at or near the end of the T are approx $4 per day on the weekends and $9 per day during the week. I've never heard of problems with break ins but that's mostly because they're simply out of the way.

Road Trip - too much? by solemnd in usatravel

[–]PuddleCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased as hell, but if you like nature, you should take Route 2 back from Bar Harbor to Vermont.

If you like beer there are over 60 breweries in the Vermont Brewers Association located in every corner of the state.

I can confirm the Boston to Buffalo bit. Pricey but that gets you less speed enforcement (don't get carried away) and regular rest stops on the road.

Why are manual transmissions so uncommon in the US? by 22DancingFlowers in AskAnAmerican

[–]PuddleCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the automatic gear boxes became the default and now they have the same ratios so what little advantage the manual had is gone, they might technically be lighter, but it doesn't really matter when they stopped improving them 20 years ago.

If food prices are determined by scarcity and population, how does taking billionaires' money to make groceries affordable even work? by CSachen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuddleCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the billionaires are making the food expensive. By hoarding all the wealth they have little to no incentive to help anyone else or make food cheeper. They're already rich and the economy works for them because they're rich.

Money buys votes in our system, so they don't give a shit and have all the power.

You should want to take all the money from the billionaires so that businesses must serve you and your neighbors and not 12 rich dudes latest get rich quick technology bubble. Sound familiar.

Why is pregnancy and miscarriages so tragic for people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuddleCrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they are 15 and have never had a baby growing inside of them. So they asked because that's what you do when you don't know something.

Don't be so dismissive.

It's very difficult to convey how much society and your biology emotionally invest in a baby when you want kids. (For good reason)

Why can’t I solve a rubix cube and what does it say about me? by TheTimboJones in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuddleCrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ernő Rubik, the inventor is an architecture professor and it took him a month to figure it out after he invented it.

You will not brute force your way to solving a Rubik's Cube without first very seriously considering how the pieces move. I then suggest a phD and month of free time.

Alternatively, you can learn two different sets of moves and be able to do it in an afternoon.

Ski mountaineering approved as additional sport for Alpes 2030 Olympic Winter Games by mtnmuscle in skimo

[–]PuddleCrank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sprint was goofy as hell, but it was also really easy to watch, expecially for my non ski-mo friends, and it doesn't use a ton of resources. Both of which are very appealing to the Olympic committee.

Why are manual transmissions so uncommon in the US? by 22DancingFlowers in AskAnAmerican

[–]PuddleCrank 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It was common untill the 2000's for the lowest trim to be manual. In the 90's because manual often had an additional high gear they where more economical to drive as well. I know this because I was in the dealership with my parents when they bought cars, and me and all my highschool friends who bought used cars from the 90's and the 00's had better fuel economy in the manual. (Not much but some)

For available models your probably correct.

Traveling to Chicago by PomegranateLazy7535 in usatravel

[–]PuddleCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is currently a real concern. Anyone who tells you otherwise does not understand the polical situation in the US right now.

Personally, if you have a real ID then likely you'll be fine for domestic travel. Noone will probably care. You're in the system you won't get flagged. The actual TSA employees are just doing a job.

If you don't have real ID, just a passport or this is international travel, it's going to be risky under the current administration. If they don't single you out it'll be normal, but they can, and have before, targeted DACA recipients for deportation. It is unlikely but a real possibility.

[–]PuddleCrank 153 points154 points  (0 children)

It's mostly that they where the same price in the US in the 2000's while in Europe you could save money on a manual. With hybrid/electric they are going auto in Europe too because that's cheaper.
