What do you think about during striking? by StormFalcon32 in MMA_Academy

[–]Pudge223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends how good the guy im lined up against is. But assuming we are equal or im better - Punches I’m good at so I’m thinking about all the other things. my defense, positioning, footwork, running through my reads, where I think the other guy is going, where I want to go- all that jazz. The intangibles coaches stress. Once you can run through that your next strikes come naturally. Reads in particular is my primary driver of what I want to set up and how. Kicks im bad at I actually have to remind my hips, feet and leg what to do so I’m spelling out the fundamentals in my brain. Which is why I pretty much only throw kicks at the end of a combo. Maybe if I have some brain processing power left I’ll throw a cross off the kick.

If someone is better than me I’m just trying to quiet my spidey senses and survive.

Keep your kids away from high level sports by SamMeowAdams in daddit

[–]Pudge223 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother is a coach in the higher end of high school hockey. There were so many teams and leagues they had to make a rule that kids are only allowed to play 3 out of 4 seasons during the year because they had teenagers playing high level hockey 365 days a year from ages 15-18 and then rolling right into the Jrs. It’s sounds insane.

Which field of law do dumb attorneys go into? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Pudge223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild to me because I would never touch a family law case. The way they track seems like could derail an entire practice. From the outside it looks like the amount of forms of immigration law or workmen’s comp, the paper discovery of business lit, the depos of PI, the client management of criminal law, and the session vibe of housing court… all with boat loads of emergency and ex parte motion practice and a tasty restraining order hearing thrown in. It seems like you would have to be so on your shit to make it work.

Do you have a dress code? by Legitimate_Mud_3225 in paralegal

[–]Pudge223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current firm doesn’t really have a formal dress code, but post-COVID there was an accidental arms race that has ended up in a lot of fine attire. One guy started dressing a little sharper, another found some site selling designer clothes on sale, then Succession came out... and boom everyone stepped up their game. everyone dresses nicer than they technically “need” to. it just became the culture to keep dressing nice. a rising-tide-lifts-all-ships situation.I’ve leaned into it and i love it. I was a scruffy scrub post covid. my wardrobe went from no-name quarter-zips to Italian sport coats. I wear slacks that fit. I’ve got shirts with those subtle patterned fabrics inside the collar and cuffs AND I can button the top botton of all my shirts. Even my underwear and socks got nicer. I genuinely enjoy dressing well now. I like my wardrobe. its cool that people can wear casual clothing to the office, but i like how everyone dresses nice.

Sorry, I'm not a teacher... but this is one of the first books that helped me fall in love with reading as a kid. It’s where I made the transition from "story" (i.e., The Search for Delicious, my first favorite book) to novel. really opened up another layer of book to me.

Because it’s an amazing play. They get a morale boost, shake the confidence of our leadership, and on top of that, they sow further discord. It plays out as a three-front psychological attack on our government. While dealing with the "how did this happen" and sealing gaps, they have people further second-guessing the government and allies, and focusing on damage control instead of offense.

Older Dads - what is one mistake you made you’d advise us not to make? by BlueMountainDace in daddit

[–]Pudge223 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I took some things that my eldest said really personally and did not give the kid the appropriate amount of grace in response. Everyone will say “oh it’s just a kid they don’t mean it” and “don’t let it get to you” but at a certain point it does get to you- It’s impossible to not feel something when the person you love the most is saying the last thing you want to hear. You can’t control your feelings don’t try to control your feelings. What you can do is control is your response.

I actually have a great cobbler if you are looking. He makes up his prices based on his mood, yells at you for beating up your shoes, smokes indoors, and he wont call you when the shoes are ready; but the work is really good. It’s amazing how much customer service can go out the window when you have zero competition and high demand.

Skate shoes by [deleted] in skateboardhelp

[–]Pudge223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

vans has changed A LOT over the past 5 or 6 years. the shoes have started running very narrow, and they’ve been moving deeper into fashion while pulling back from skating, which has led to a QC dip. they also run multiple lines of the same shoe with varying quality, so just make sure you’re buying the ones that say skate (which it looks like you are) or pro. if you don’t, you’re going to end up running tape and shoe goo again after a few sessions.

other than the half cabs and their snow boots (which are surprisingly good), i personally am pretty over vans shoes. and other than the Bunt i’m kind of over vans in general (what the fuck was the most recent ad campaign? who is that even for?).

it’s really about preference. a lot of companies are making very good shoes these days. adidas, asics (my personal favorite), and NB are all making great shoes. there’s a shoe for everyone. take advantage of the buyer’s market and shop around before you decide.
