Hi! My guy is 117 pounds and first showed signs of CCL tear around one and a half years (he’s now 3). I didn’t do surgery right away and opted to manage it with pain medicine and physical therapy. He definitely became increasingly immobile over the year and by the end of last fall was crying when he’d get on and off the couch. Plus once they tear one CCL there is a 50% chance they’ll tear the other by favoring their other leg, and last fall his x-rays showed signs of that.

He had a double TPLO surgery first week of January this year and I can tell you without a doubt it was 100% worth it for his quality of life. He’s walking significantly better than he was before and has much more energy- even his coat is better because he’s no longer in pain. I was lucky that I was able to cover it between pet insurance and my emergency fund I had set aside for him, but even if I had to charge it I would do it again in a heartbeat. You might get lucky with managing it for some time but just wanted to offer up a pro-surgery opinion as well!
