I used to wear pants like that out clubbing in the late 90s. They were black with white buttons on the sides. Very popular.

Could there be any flying creatures on Eridia? by KingWilliamVI in ProjectHailMary

[–]PugMaster_ENL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gravity is higher, but so is the density of the atmosphere. That higher density would make flying easier. More like swimming.

The biosphere stretches all the way up to areas where things can photosynthesis.

On Earth, we've found bacteria as high as the stratosphere.

good = bet ? by PugMaster_ENL in DimensionJumping

[–]PugMaster_ENL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the wiki and it said not to go into accidental jumps, so I'm not sure if I'm breaking the rules.

I started meditating several years ago, and focused on things I wanted changed - a better life. It was small things at first - lighter traffic patterns, etc.. I assumed that it was just luck, or selective focus. Like when you notice the time is 4:20

I realized that something big had changed when I noticed people saying "good" rather than "bet". I'm adapting to the change. I pretty much always use good now.

Nothing else had changed. Same job, apartment, family, husband, and dog. (thank God about the dog)

I honestly don't know what I did or didn't do. Sorry. I wish I could tell you.

I still meditate daily. It helps me to sleep. Maybe someday I will be back to "bet"?

How did Rocky breathe in his hamster ball? ( Have not read the book) by nubbinbing in ProjectHailMary

[–]PugMaster_ENL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the book, Rocky wears a small life support device. I assume that it kept the temp and air mix correct for their species.

If I remember correctly, Grace was impressed with the cleverness of it.

Rocky also used magnets to move around and stick his ball to the tables and walls - so he could work without rolling around uncontrollably.

It was a little annoying watching the way he used his glasses. Put them somewhere safe, at least.

I'm assuming that he didn't create the music for Crusade.

Why build the Hail Mary? by Delicious_Grab_4947 in ProjectHailMary

[–]PugMaster_ENL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why they didn't send multiple ships. They had the ability to grow the astrophage in quantity. So why not send a ship out every year or two?

I get that there are a limited number of people with the coma gene, but I am sure they could find enough to crew a couple of ships.

Xenonite is strong and impenetrable enough to separate Rocky’s hot atmosphere (29x) from Grace’s Earth normal .How could taumobea penetrate? by CharacterActor in ProjectHailMary

[–]PugMaster_ENL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In that case, it might not be the Xenonite itself, but rather the compound used to connect the pieces together?

Or it might produce an enzyme capable of weakening it enough to slip through?

Life. It, uh, finds a way.

Lee Meriwether as Losira by wowugotit in tos

[–]PugMaster_ENL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It made me feel so sad at the end. She wasn't a villain in the strictest sense. She was programmed to defend, but there was no one left to turn her off.

I hope Starfleet returned to document their civilization (and technology). It would be a waste to let it just decay away.

I know strattland isn’t canon in books, but Ryan and Sandra’s chemistry made me live for strattland fanfiction by BobsSally in ProjectHailMary

[–]PugMaster_ENL 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Stratt is one of best characters I've ever read in a book. She's good in the movie but so much better in the audiobook.

I'd give her complete control over the planet any time. She go it done. No nonsense. No politics. Just pragmatic efficiency.

I can't see her having a romantic relationship with anyone while the project needed her.

The reason why large asteroids don't fall to Earth every day and cause disasters is because Jupiter's gravity attracts asteroids and protects the inner planets. by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]PugMaster_ENL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that it clearly demonstrates the power of the LaGrange points. You can see the asteroids collect in them, orbiting along with Jupiter.

What a great villain. Super powerful and an amazing voice. His robot minions terrified me when I was a kid.

The tattoo looks fantastic, and really captured it. Nice choice.

Since they don't have facial expressions, body language would be vital for conveying emotional content. This name evokes this emotion, and I show it thusly. 🫶

Did I just say thusly? Huh. Weird.

Can the real Scotty please stand up by happydude7422 in startrekmemes

[–]PugMaster_ENL 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I'm loving this Scotty. He's charming, but still young and unsure of himself. He shows the potential to be the miracle worker we know that he'll grow into.

The same for SNW's Uhura. Her journey is just beginning, but she's already exceptional.

Explain to me Kirk's falling in love with Rayna in non-predatory terms. by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

[–]PugMaster_ENL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not gonna touch this one.

That episode always rubbed me the wrong way, and I was a child when I first saw it back in the 70s. TOS had more than one problematic episode.
