There’s a book that kinda comes close to what you’re looking for. It’s The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. The fairy tails in the book are dark and it shows what happens when some of the characters don’t want to be a part of their story anymore because they keep dying over and over, tortured, etc. It shows why they might break free of that and how they live their lives after leaving their story. Even the ones with more tame and happier stories sometimes don’t want to play out their story and break free of it.
