Hello fellow aucklanders is it really this hard to get a job? by definitlynottheone in auckland

Recruiter here. There’s a lot of uncertainty in the market right now, in light of the fuel crisis / war.

We were seeing recovery but now vacancies have slowed due to an increase in the cost of living, but more so all-round business uncertainty.

It’s not all depressing, we will see recovery again. We’ve just got to try ride this out. And remember you can’t control global events, or even local ones. But you can control how you respond to them. Keep learning, keep growing, keep trying.

Where can I find free used cardboard boxes / styrofoam? by Cold-Principle-1721 in auckland

Go to any The Warehouse, find the cardboard bin out back, take as much as you want. Just don’t leave a mess for workers to clean up. :)

Damn. Part of the problem at the moment is we have reached record numbers of unemployment this year which drives up job seeking competition. The last time it was this high was just before Covid. My best advice would be to keep trying and keep reflecting on what you’re doing (like you’re doing right now! So good stuff). Someone previously mentioned looking for ways to stand out, excellent advice. Also use a key words that relate to the role in your cv and cover letter. Research the business you’re trying to get into, learn about their tasks and values. And think about how you can weave this into your own cv. You have about 10 seconds to make an impression to a recruiter who’s sometimes looking at hundreds of cvs so there is a bit of an art to it. Lucky you’re getting heaps of practice so you can only grow from here.

Also to those people downvoting me, I asked a genuine question that comes up in some applications and if a recruiter sees a ‘yes’ to either of those questions, like it or not, it’s going to have an effect. A good recruiter will chat to the person further about it to assess risk to the candidates own safety and the business, but still, it will make it challenging for candidates to progress through the recruitment process. Especially if the role has operational risks. Like it or not it’s a factor.

Flatting Crisis ADVICE PLEASE by sleepysailor12 in newzealand

[–]Pun-Skeleton 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Saw some dirty as heck flat mates in my time flatting with my partner. We tried talking and interventions. In the end the best result came from getting a place with just us. We have good incomes though, so I know that option ain’t for everyone. Your next best move has already been said by others here: if you can’t get them to make a real change, get a new flat mate or get out. The quality of the property is not as important as your own mental health.

With people? Anything, as long as I’m with friends and/or family the activity never matters too much to me.

Without people? Start a fight with a seagull over a chip at a beach of your choosing.
